May finds us wrapping up tournament season, reflecting on our successes and preparing for grading. On May 5 th , Kyokushin members will gather in Burnaby BC to celebrate the 35 th Canadian Kyokushin Karate Championships. For the last three years Calgary has won the overall team trophy. This year unfortunately we only will have 2 competitors, so we will not be in the running. Please join me in wishing them the best of luck. Grading – everyone’s favorite event of the year! Grading for McKenzie, Lake Bonavista and Bowness Family Classes (Children), will occur during regular class times from May 12 th – 17 th . . For those grading for coloured belts your times will be forwarded to you in the next few days. Bowness students will grade for coloured belts on June 12 th . Those grading for Brown belt and above will be notified of their date in the next few weeks. Please ensure you all come prepared! Remember! You should be able to perform the kata for the level above the grade you are testing for Classes will be cancelled may 19 th – 21st for the May long weekend. Next, Spring Camp is back! This year it will run from May 25 th -27 th 2018. For those who have attended Spring Camp before you know what a great weekend of training and fun it is. If you have any questions please contact me. All regular classes on Saturday the 26 th will be held at 11:00 am. Branch Chief Shihan Stuart Corrigal will be our main guest instructor this year in helping us celebrate our 10 TH Calgary Spring Camp. To register please go to www.kyokushincalgary.ca and click the Spring Camp poster on the side. Next, I have just been informed that our hours at the McKenzie Lake Community Center are being cut back. In September we will not have the gym available to us on Saturdays at all. We are currently exploring other locations to hold our classes. We will keep you posted to the new location of our Saturday classes. Please let us know if you have any suggestions. In light of these changes, Pre-registration for next year will now take place later in May. Please stay tuned for further information and registration packages – Thank you for your patience.
