WHERE BUSINESS IS THE FOCUS The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce (JACC) is a member organization of approximately 1,000 businesses and professionals from the Joplin area. We are business people who share a common dream and the passion for economic prosperity, developing an environment that cultivates the arts and a superior lifestyle for all of those who call Joplin, MO home. With a small-town population but a big-city market area, Joplin stands at the crossroads of America -- literally and figuratively. We are “small-town friendly” with big-city convenience. One of the only metropolitan communities servicing Southwest Missouri and the tri-state area (within an arm’s length of Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas), Joplin is the hub city. Although the night-time population of the city itself is only about 52,000, Joplin sees a major influx of workers, shoppers, diners and travelers throughout the day, bumping its daytime population to well over 250,000. The JACC Business EXPO focuses on bringing business people together by strategically drawing its exhibitors and attendees from throughout the Four State Area. For those businesses not exhibiting at EXPO, we offer a variety of marketing opportunities through our 5-Star Partnership Program. Our sponsorships provide businesses, organizations, products and services with enhanced visibility among those who attend EXPO as well as the audience leading up to the event.

The “EXPO” Experience

The JACC Annual Business EXPO is a wonderful way for Mercy to connect with members of our community. Each year, we are able to highlight important topics like the opening of our new Mercy Hospital, Clinics and Cancer Center in Joplin. Our providers dedicate time to greet people and answer questions about their services. In many years, we’ve used this venue as an opportunity to provide benefit to our community through free flu shots. The JACC team and the mem-ber businesses that dedicate their time and talent organizing a successful event always do a tremendous job. Julie Beatty, Director of Marketing & Communications Mercy Hospital Joplin

Southwest Missouri Bank has been a part of EXPO since the very first year, in 1993. The Chamber and the EXPO committee work all year to organize a terrific event and it always pays off. It is the best way for us to see our customers and friends, have conversations with them in a fun setting, and sometimes even play a game or two at our booth. Every business in our area should consider being a part of EXPO! Peggy C. Fuller, CFMP, Vice President/Marketing Director Southwest Missouri Bank

We have been participating in the Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO ever since we opened our restaurant in Joplin. The EXPO is the perfect forum for meeting hundreds of local business partners and thousands from the general public. Your marketing and networking efforts can be maximized because it is all done face-to-face under one roof in a short period of time. We wouldn’t miss it! Bob Luke, Regional Manager Rib Crib BBQ & Grill

Sign Designs has exhibited at Business EXPO since its inception years ago. EXPO is a great marketing opportunity for us to put our company services on display and meet both existing and potential clients in one face-to-face setting. John Hipple, Jr., President Sign Designs

I just wanted you to know the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO is one of the best networking events of the year! Here at Joplin Supply Company we do our fair share of trade shows and expos every year. By far this is our most anticipated show of the year! It is run flawlessly by the Chamber staff. Good times had by all. Jeff Owen, Plumbing Sales Manager Joplin Supply Company

I got involved in the EXPO and the committee because I just wanted to help and get to know others in the business community. Now as a business owner, I know the benefits of networking and developing personal relationships with other business professionals as well as people who live and work in the area. I wanted to have a constant, always-present and top-of-mind place with every individual of our community, so when they are ready to buy, sell or survey anything, they think of me, and the EXPO is a great avenue for me to do that. Brian Atnip, Owner MJ Surveying LLC

I had been trying desperately to get a meeting with the Procurement Facilitator of a large manufacturer in Joplin. Not knowing that there were changes being made in the company, I had reached a dead end. On business day of the EXPO, the new facilitator for the company came to my booth, we exchanged contact information and set up a meeting time. Thank you, Joplin EXPO! EXHIBITOR FAQ’S 1. How can I prepare for EXPO?

Go into EXPO with a pre-, at- and post-show game plan. To make the most of your EXPO experience, plan targeted pre- show marketing. Utilize the EXPO theme “A Red Carpet Event” to decorate your booth. Make sure you have a banner displaying your name and plenty of business cards and promotional material to hand out to prospective clients. If you need any of these products, contact your fellow Chamber members at http://cca.joplincc.com/businesssearch.aspx? dbid2=mojop offering these products and services. Set goals for EXPO, including how many new contacts you hope to make, how many existing customers with whom you hope to visit, and what new resources you can find for your business from the other exhibitors. Once EXPO is over, make post-show contacts; thank people for visiting your EXPO booth and encourage them to do business with you! Exhibitors who plan for EXPO get the most out of their experience.

2. As an Exhibitor, what are my responsibilities at EXPO? The official policies and procedures for exhibitors are outlined in the Exhibitor Policies, but some of the main responsibilities include:

Setting up your booth before the show opens on January 23, 2018 by 11:30 a.m.

DO NOT tear down your booth any earlier than 4 p.m. on January 24, 2018 to avoid the $50 penalty.

You must be moved out before leaving Downstream Casino Resort Pavilion on January 25.

Staffing your booth at all times during the two-day show (we have a care team to help provide breaks).

Providing your staff the information needed when working your booth.

3. What does my booth include? Your EXPO booth includes: One clothed and skirted table (choice of 6' or 8' table), two chairs, small trash can, one electric receptacle, pipe and drape to delineate the space. Additional tables available upon request. An Additional Needs form will be sent via e-mail closer to event time and is included in this packet on page 11.

4. What if I have additional needs? If you know what your additional needs are, please see the “Additional Needs” form on page 11 of this packet from Downstream Casino Resort. If you need electricity, please let Downstream know by filling out the additional needs form and emailing it to [email protected]. Also on the request form is the option to pre-order additional tables, chairs and misc. Downstream staff will be on site during setup if you find you are still in need of some thing. Pre-planning and ordering can save you time and money; if you order the day of the event, you will incur additional fees.

5. Can I share my booth? No subleasing or sharing of booth space is allowed without permission of EXPO Committee (no exceptions). All exhibitors must be members in good standing with the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.

7. Where is the exhibitor entrance & how do I get nametags? We have made registration simple this year. During show hours, everyone can register in the main lobby just past the fireplace (directional signage will lead the way), or downstairs. The easiest way to get there is using the main entrance doors (designated in the valet area). Follow the signage.

Get your nametag, which enters you for the trip.

Get a stamp for re-admittance.

Head to the elevators or stairs to the lower level and this will lead you to the Pavilion.

8. Where do exhibitors park? We have many parking options! We are asking all exhibitors who are setting up before the show to fill the vendor parking lot near the Pavilion on the west side. Please communicate to your staff working the show that they can park any- where. By parking in the designated EXPO parking lot, they can use the EXPO shuttle that can bring them to the front entrance. Valet is also complimentary.

9. Is there a rest area provided for exhibitors? An exhibitor lounge with drinks and light snacks will be available in the Pavilion hallway. If you are the only one in your booth, we also provide a care team to watch your booth while you take a break. The lounge is provided as a courtesy to the exhibitors and is not open to clients/customers or EXPO visitors.

PLEASE TAKE ANY VALUABLE ITEMS WITH YOU THAT CAN EASILY BE CARRIED AWAY. The Chamber and Downstream Casino Resort are not responsible for any losses.

13. May I make announcements from my booth or is there a general announcement system? We will use the public address system only for EXPO-related announcements. 16. What happens in case of extremely bad weather? There is always the possibility of a winter storm in January. In the case of bad weather, the JACC always puts the safety of our exhibitors and customers first. If it is necessary to postpone or cancel EXPO, it will be communicated through our media outlets, text alert system, www.facebook.com/joplinchamber and www.joplincc.com along with rescheduling information. We understand that some businesses may not be able to accommodate this change. You will not be penalized for this and will still receive your early entry to EXPO 2019.

17. Will there be adequate parking for my customers and is there a shuttle available? Downstream shuttles will be available and will run from any of the parking lots to the front hotel entrance (valet area) both days.

Throughout both days at EXPO, complimentary shuttles will run from the designated EXPO parking lot to the front entrance (valet area).

EXPO shuttles will run 30 minutes past the close of the show each evening and will pick you up at the front hotel entrance (valet area).

If you want to park and walk into the venue, you are welcome to park in any of the parking lots.

Complimentary valet service is available (tips are appreciated).

18. How can my customers or potential customers find me at EXPO? EXPO attendees are provided with a copy of the Business EXPO map of the Pavilion. On this map each exhibiting business is listed with its corresponding booth number. We also have large floor maps available throughout the facility to help direct attendees. The EXPO committee also encourages you to do pre-show marketing to alert your customers where to find you during EXPO. Check out www.joplincc.com for all EXPO details.

19. Are there still sponsorships and marketing opportunities available? Yes, there are many sponsorships and ways to place your business in front of EXPO attendees. If you are interested in sponsorships, contact Ginger LaMar, [email protected] or Jim Kesler, [email protected].

Please let the JACC staff or the EXPO committee know if there is anything we can do to make your show more successful.

EXHIBITOR SUCCESSFUL TIPS AND HINTS

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVERYTHING - understand how brand imagery affects consumer opinion:

Booth presentation, nametag, banner, interactive display, logo business wear, make your exhibit stand out.

You want at least two friendly, outgoing people at all times to share the booth.

Take a break in our exhibitor lounge, where snacks and drinks are provided.

Utilize your trade show display by marketing yourself pre-show. Make it about networking, not selling.

Use the EXPO time to engage, interact and educate attendees about your products and services.

Take a mat or carpeting and pad to stand on and wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing.

Spend time with other booth vendors. They also are some of your best prospects.

Want to capture the names of people passing by your booth? Offer a game or a drawing for a product or service!

Appealing design, your booth should be approachable. Smiling faces of professional booth attendants are important.

Have fun. Smile! If you are outgoing & friendly and show interest in attendees, they will in turn show interest in your company.

Highlight your show specials so buyers know they need to buy at the show in order to receive the discount or special offer.

Everyone likes to win something and contests, special promotions, or prize drawings will attract people to your booth.

Be sure that you require something of attendees in order to enter the drawing or qualify to win a prize such as a business card,

or filling out a contact form or questionnaire.

Bring plenty of business cards and promotional materials to hand out to prospective clients.

Think “outside the box” for booth ideas — not just the same gimmicks everyone else uses to get people in the booth.

Make sure that the promotional product giveaway that you choose is something that is relevant to your brand and useful to

the consumer. That is the best combination to ensure that they are kept for long periods of time.

Use social media to engage with people who have checked in at the Pavilion or mentioned the Business EXPO on social

media. Invite them to your booth and offer a special incentive through social channels.

Utilize the theme and tagline when decorating your booth: “A RED CARPET EVENT.”

Keep exhibit open for access by visitors without barriers, such as tables and displays.

It is never too early to start working on this event. The date will sneak up on you if you are not careful!

Have a portfolio of your work available as part of your trade show display.

Utilize Monday setup from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and allow a little extra time to get things together.

Each year during EXPO Business After Hours we host an incredible live and silent auction to raise funds for the JACC Foundation

that provides education and professional development through programs such as Leadership Joplin, Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

and the Young Professionals Network.

We dream BIG at JACC, so we’ve set our goal for 2018 to be the BIGGEST auction in EXPO history…and we’re going to need

help. We have started gathering donations for the auction and we are looking for businesses and organizations to partner with

who can provide us with items to help us meet our goal. We are looking for items of all price ranges, small to large, in order to

provide things that will appeal to all demographics. However, our auction team has provided a “wish list” of items that have been

a proven success in the past and we would love to see these items be the talk of the Auction...think BIG with us!
