Introduction to the 2018 HRAM Wage/Salary and Benefits Survey

Thank you for your participation in the 2018 HRAM Wage/Salary and Benefits Survey.

HRAM would like to thank The Olson Group for sponsoring the 2018 Wage/Salary and Benefits Survey. TheWage/Salary and Benefits Survey is the result of a collaborative effort between HRAM and ActuarialConsulting Services, Inc. In addition, a dedicated group of HRAM members volunteer to provide valuablesupport in making possible the annual publication of this valuable survey. HRAM appreciates and would liketo thank all of you who have participated in previous surveys and those of you who are new to the survey.

What's New?

There are no changes this year to the questions in the survey. However, please carefully review all currentyear answers to insure the most accurate survey results.

Please note that all of the individual job code descriptions have been updated for 2018. This is detailed in theExcel file HRAM18_WageData.xls. That spreadsheet can be found by clicking on the Part 3 Link inside theinvitation email. Please carefully review the updated job descriptions as you perform the job matching.

We continue to learn and improve each year and we hope that each new year will provide our participantsand members with easy to use and helpful information.

Overview of Survey Sections

The survey consists the following three sections

- Part 1: General Pay Practices questionnaire- Part 2: Benefits questionnaire- Part 3: Position Wage Data form

This is Part 1 of the survey, the General Pay Practices questionnaire. To access Part 2 of the survey, pleaseclick on the Part 2 link that was provided in the invitation e-mail. To access Part 3 of the survey, please clickon the Part 3 link that was provided in the invitation e-mail, save the Excel file onto a drive where you saveyour working documents, read the instructions, input your job data and return the completed Excel file [email protected].

Survey Instructions and Definitions

Please refer to the following when filling out the survey. It may be useful to print this page out to accesswhile you are completing the survey (you can always click the "Last" button at the bottom of each surveypage to get back to this page). Surveys should be fully completed and submitted by March 23, 2018 to be included in the final report.

Below are definitions to some of the terms used in the survey:

Exempt Employees: Employees who are exempt from the overtime provisions of the U.S. Fair LaborStandards Act of 1938. Includes executives, administrative employees, professional employees andemployees engaged in outside sales as defined in FLSA language.

Non-Exempt, Office Employees: Employees who are not exempt from the minimum wage and overtime payprovisions of the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Includes those employees that are classified asparaprofessionals, technicians and office and clerical.

Non-Exempt, Non-Office Employees: Employees who are not exempt from the minimum wage and overtimepay provisions of the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. Includes those employees that are classified asskilled trades, semi-skilled, unskilled, and other "production-level employees".

Instructions/Notes for Specific Questions

Select questions have specific instructions to explain how the questions should be answered. Theseinstructions will be printed in blue text before the question.

Other questions will have notes to help explain the definition of a term or give examples of how to answerthe question. These notes will be printed in green.

Required Answers and Invalid Responses

Select questions have a "fill-in" answer. These answers have validation checks that identify if your responseis valid (for example, you may accidentally enter the character 's' instead of the number '5'. The validationchecks are done each time you click "Next" to go to the next survey page. If there is an invalid answer, or ifyou are required to answer a question, you will remain on the current page and a red warning message willidentify which answer was invalid or which question you are required to answer.

Pausing the Survey

If you need to temporarily stop the survey to resume at a later time, simply click on the "Pause" button atthe bottom of the page you are currently on. You will be prompted to bookmark the page or enter it as afavorite. While this will make it convenient to get back to the survey, it is not necessary. You can always getback to the survey by using the link in the invitation e-mail. When you log back into your survey, it will beginwhere you left off. If you accidentally close the internet window without clicking the "Pause" button, you willlose the answers that you have entered on the current page, but all answers on previous pages of the surveywill be preserved.

Resuming the Survey

To resume work on the survey after exiting the survey you merely need to return to the survey log-in screenby returning to the page you bookmarked when you paused the survey or return to the link provided in theinvitation e-mail. You will be prompted to enter your user name and password. After logging in, you will bereturned to the page where you left off.

Editing or Reviewing Your Responses

If you wish to edit or review your responses simply click the "Last" button at the bottom of any page toreturn to the appropriate section and review or edit your responses. All data entered before and after thispoint will not be lost. So you can click the "Next" button until you return to the section of the survey whereyou left off.

Submitting Your Survey

When you have reached the last page of the survey, you will have the opportunity to review your answers orsubmit the survey. If you are ready to submit the survey, select the "Send Answers" button. Once you selectthis button, you will not be able to change your answers.
