2018 Fall Class Schedule

1. Beginners’ Quilting Class This class is designed for anyone who would like to learn how to quilt. In this class you will make a small quilt from the very start to the very finish. No previous quilting experience is needed; however you are required to bring your own sewing machine. Orientation: Sept 19th 10:00 – 11 am Classes: Sept 26th, Oct 3rd, 10th and 17th 10:00 – 1:30 Cost: $130.00 plus supplies

2. Quarterly Table Runner Class In this class we will make one Table Runner for each season. The table runner will be chosen from the book The Trendy Table and that book is required for this project. Each quarter throughout the year, we will meet for one day and make a seasonal table runner. The first one will be Fall then Winter, Spring and then Summer. Session One – Fall Orientation: Sept 20th 10 – 11 am Class: Sept 27 or Oct 1. 9:30 – 3 pm There are two dates applicable to this class to accommodate those who have already signed up. Cost: $25.00 plus supplies Session Two – Winter Orientation: Nov 15th 10 – 11 am Class: November 29th or Dec 6th 9:30 – 3 pm Cost: $25 plus supplies

3. Pineapple Quilt The Pineapple Block has been a favorite for many years, however it looks fairly complex to put together. We are making it very simple to make this quilt by using a ruler specifically designed to make a pineapple block. I used the ruler when making the sample and found the ruler to be so beneficial for this project. In the class we will make sixteen blocks but you can make yours any size you like. Pick a specific colour theme or do as I did just random colours. Orientation: Oct 9 10 – 11 am Class: Oct 18th, Nov 8th 9:30 – 12:30 pm Cost: $50

4. Chevron Tote Bag In this class we will be making a Tote Bag designed with chevron panels on each side. This tote bag is not complex and would be a great class to take if you feel a bit intimidated when it comes to making a tote bag. This one sews up so nicely and can be made using co-ordinated fabrics or scraps. The choice is yours. The pattern will be supplied. Orientation: Friday Sept 28th 10 – 11 am Classes: Oct 5th and 12th 10 – 1 pm Cost: $45.00 plus supplies

5. Paper Piecing 101 In this class we will be making a Table topper that uses the paper piecing method. If you have not tried this technique before, this project is a great way to give it a try and learn a new technique. Choose as few as three fabrics or as many as twenty three fabrics, the choice is yours. This project only calls for four paper pieced blocks so it is not intimidating. Section by section watch your project come to life. Orientation: Nov 28th 10 – 11 am Classes: Dec 5th and 12th 9:30 – 12:30 pm Cost: $50 plus supplies

6. Pin Cushion Collage Join us for this project which is made using the collage technique. This technique is similar to raw edge applique but a lot more fun. Be creative and find a use for all those flowery fabrics you don’t know what to do with. The class sample has approx. 30 different fabrics in it. You don’t need a lot of each fabric, but you do need lots of different fabrics. But not to worry if you don’t have all of them we can help you out with that as well. You will be required to purchase the pattern for this class. Orientation: Oct 1 10 – 12 Class: Oct 15th, 22nd and 29th 10 - 2 Cost: $75 plus supplies

7. Hexagon Christmas Runner In this class we will be making a hexagon runner for Christmas. The technique used in this project allows the whole project to be sewn on your machine, no hand sewing at all. Make this as small or as big as you wish. The end result will look very festive. This is another class where you can use your Christmas scraps left from previous projects or you can coordinate your colours to suit any décor. You will be required to purchase the pattern for this project. Orientation: Nov 7th 10 -11 Class: Nov 14th and 21st 9:30 – 12:30 Cost: $50 plus supplies

8. Christmas Placemats We’ve chosen to make our sample out of Christmas fabrics but you can choose anything you would like. The pattern for this project includes a table runner; however in the class we will only be making four placemats. Using a long ruler and your cutting mat, these placemats go together quickly. Eight different fabrics are required for this project. Fabrics are cut into 2 ½” strips so if you’ve got some left over strips from other projects and you want your placemats scrappy looking, you can use up what you already have. 9. Two Day Quilting Retreat Do you feel like quilting all day with lots fellow quilters but still being able to go home to sleep? Well join me, Alvina for this two day quilting retreat right here in Parksville. We will supply irons and ironing boards, you bring your project or projects. Cost includes coffee and muffins each day. If you would like a catered lunch please indicate that and we will arrange something, otherwise bring your own lunch and enjoy the day. Maximum number of people will be 18. If this is of interest to you, don’t wait too long. Nov 5th and 6th 9 – 4 pm Cost: $75 (plus tax), for both days includes coffee and muffins each day. Catered lunch will be extra.
