Olivia Sims has received an Elizabeth Dawson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Representing the Dawson Scholarship was Mary Jackson. Olivia plans to attend Radford University
majoring in the Nursing field. Her GPA is 3.5.
Matthew Thompson will receive a Sony Merriman and David C. Goodman Memorial Scholarship in the
amount of $1,000. Representing the Goodman scholarship is Herb Goodman. Matthew plans to attend
Mary Baldwin University enrolling in one of their Health Sciences fields. His GPA is 4.2
Logan Morris has received a William and Ada Sanderson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of
$1,250. Representing the scholarship was John Sanderson, Sr. Logan plans to attend Virginia Tech and
major in Agricultural Technology and Dairy Science. He has a GPA of 3.8.
Kaylyn Sparkman has received a Cumberland Clothes Closet Scholarship for $1,000. Representing the
Cumberland Clothes Closet was Barbara Daniels. Kaylyn plans to attend Virginia Tech majoring in
Dentistry. Her GPA is 4.1.
Jacey Burley has received a scholarship from the Cumberland Clothes Closet for $1,000. Representing
the Cumberland Clothes Closet was Laura Daniels. Jacey plans to attend Lynchburg College with a major
in Forensic Science and Criminology. She has a GPA of 4.5.
Elizabeth Ledford has received a Cumberland Clothes Closet Scholarship for $1,000. Representing the
Cumberland Clothes Closet was Arlene Vance. Elizabeth plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth
University and major in Radiology. She has a GPA of 3.9.
Crystal Dowdy has received the Angels as Nurses, Womans Club of Cumberland and Luck Stone
Scholarships in the amount of $1,000. Representing the Angels as Nurses scholarship for the Womans
Club of Cumberland is Patty Pedrick and Breann Woodson represented her daughter whom the
scholarship was created for. Crystal plans to attend Radford University in the Fall, majoring in Nursing.
She has a GPA of 3.23.
Holly Tillett has received a William and Ada Sanderson Memorial, the Cartersville Ruritan Club and a
Juanita Urban Scholarships in the amount of $1,750. Representing the William and Ada Sanderson
scholarship was Betty Sanderson. Representing the Juanita Urban was Daniel Urban. Representing the
Cartersville Ruritan Club was Bruce Robinson. Holly will be attending the University of Virginia or
Georgetown University majoring in Finance. She has a GPA of 4.7. She is this year’s Valedictorian.
Bobbi Umberger has received a Cumberland Clothes Closet, the Cartersville Ruritan Club and the
Martha and George Reid Scholarships for $1,750. Representing the Cumberland Clothes Closet
scholarship Barbara Daniels, The Cartersville Ruritan Club was Bruce Robinson and the Martha and
George Reid was George Reid. Bobbi is this year’s salutatorian and will be attending Longwood
University majoring in Nursing. She has a GPA of 4.47.

third year at Virginia Tech with plans to graduate with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He has a GPA
of 3.4
McKinley Giles has received a scholarship from Centra Southside in the amount of $1,000. McKinley
plans to go to the University of Lynchburg and possibly major in an Environmental field. She has a GPA
of 3.9.

Cumberland High School and is a returning college student to Norfolk State University majoring in
Nursing. She has a 3.6 GPA.
John Christopher Hayes Turner has received a Long John Silver’s Scholarship for $1,000. John plans to
attend Longwood University majoring in Cybersecurity. He has a GPA of 4.3.

$1,250. Representing the Lineweaver Family was Linda Lineweaver and representing the Juanita Urban
scholarship was Daniel Urban. Michael plans to attend Hampden Sydney College majoring in Biology. He
has a GPA of 4.5.

Cumberland High School and is a returning college student to Norfolk State University majoring in
Nursing. She has a 3.6 GPA.
Marya Elisha has received a Centra Southside and a Friends of the Library Scholarship for $700. Marya
is a 2016 Cumberland High School graduate and is a returning college student to Virginia
Commonwealth University majoring in Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science. She has GPA of
3.28.
Ross Fillman has received a Centra Southside and a Juanita Urban Scholarship for $700. Ross was the
2015 Salutatorian from Cumberland High School and is a returning college student at the University of
Virginia double majoring in Architecture and Architectural History with a 3.25 GPA.
Wesley Marshall has received a David C. Goodman Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. Representing the
scholarship was Herb Goodman. Wesley is a senior at Longwood University majoring in Business
Administration with Information Systems and Cyber Security. He has a GPA 3.04.

Matthew Bapties has received a William and Ada Sanderson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of
$1,250. Matthew is a returning student to Mary Washington University majoring in Psychology. He has a
GPA of 3.42.
Gillian Cubbage has received a William and Ada Sanderson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of
$1,250. Gillian is a 2016 Cumberland High School graduate and a returning student to Virginia Tech
double majoring in Sustainable Biomaterials and Packaging Systems and Design. She has a GPA of 3.11.
Katey Hougland has received the Eric L. Robinson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,300.
Katey graduated from Cumberland High School in 2017 and is currently enrolled at Randolph-Macon
College majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience. She has a GPA of 3.36

Elizabeth plans to attend ECPI University majoring in Cyber and Network Security. She has a GPA of 3.76
Jasmine Westbrook has received an Edgenuity, W. A. Watson and Juanita Urban Scholarship in the
amount of $700. Jasmine plans to attend the Art Institute at Virginia Beach majoring in Art. Her GPA is
3.2
Sadei Trent has received a Centra Southside, C and F Bank, Puckett Funeral Home and Friends of the
Library Scholarship in the amount of $700. Sadei plans to enroll at Southside Virginia Community
College in the Fall 2018. After Southside, she plans to enlist in the United States Air Force. Her GPA is
3.25.
