If you are out of town, please give us a call at 519-688-9011 and speak with one of our Customer Service Representatives who will assist you in com-pleting your registration. Please remember that all manuals are not included in the Course Price and must be purchased at the time of registration un-less the candidate has a current manual already. For those candidates who were unsuccessful in the previous course, only the exam fees will be charged.

Employment With The Town Of Tillsonburg

To become a Lifeguard, Instructor, or Assistant In-structor with the Town of Tillsonburg, you will need the following certi� cations:

Instructor - Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certi� -cation, Standard First Aid and National Lifeguard.

Lifeguard - National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid certi� cations.

Assistant Instructor - Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid and Assistant Swim Instructor certi� cation.

Recerti� cation - Aquatic quali� cations must be re-certi� ed in order to remain current. National Lifeguard - every two years Swim & Lifesaving Instructor - every two years Standard First Aid - For lifeguards, every two years. Non-lifeguards, every three years.

Important First Aid Certifi cation Information

Holders of Standard First Aid certi� cates from other agencies may not recertify their certi� cate with the Lifesaving Society recerti� cation course. They may recertify only with the original certifying agency or take a full course.

In order to comply with WSIB regulations, in-dividuals must alternate between full courses and recertifi cation courses in order to renew their award.

Aquatic Leadership Important Information

Course Attendance: Please note that 100% atten-dance is required to complete any aquatic leader-ship course (lateness is equivalent to absence).

Prerequisites: Original prerequisite certi� cations must be presented at the start of each course. Please consult the individual course descriptions to determine what is required. If your Standard First Aid is from another agency a photocopy of the certi� cation must be submitted.

Age Requirements: Candidates must turn the iden-ti� ed age prior to the last scheduled day of the course.

Unsuccessful Completion of a Course: Many courses utilize continious evaluation. Unsuccessful candidates are required to retake the full course. However, candidates will only be charged the exam fees.

What to Bring to a Course

You will need to bring the original certi� cation of the prerequisites required for the course. Be sure to consult individual course descriptions for pre-requisites required.

Course materials and schedules will be discussed on the � rst day. Bathing suits and towels will be needed for the water portions of courses.

Other items you may be required to bring include: comfortable clothing, a whistle, notebook, pens, lunch and snacks and money.

Teaches lifesavers of all ages how to respond in complex water rescue situations. Bronze Medal-lion develops physical � tness, decision making and judgement skills in preparation for challeng-ing rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers demon-strate stroke ef� ciency and endurance in a timed swim. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for all advanced lifesaving awards.

Candidates must be able to complete a 500m swim (20 lengths) in 15 minutes or less.

BRONZE MEDALLION

Emergency First Aid

Emergency First Aid is included in this course and provides a general knowledge of � rst aid prin-ciples and the emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: victim assessment, CPR, choking, respiratory and circulatory emergencies such as heart attack and stroke, and how to deal with ex-ternal bleeding.

Successful candidates also receive an Emergency First Aid with CPR-B certi� cation.

Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid

This course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.

Bronze Cross teaches the difference between life-saving and lifeguarding, the principles of emer-gency procedures, teamwork, and use of special-ized equipment.

Candidates must be able to complete a 600m swim (24 lengths) in 18 minutes or less.

Bronze Cross is one of the prerequisites for train-ing in the National Lifeguard (NL) program and Lifesaving Society Instructors certi� cations.

This new course is designed for future lifesavers who are on the go. Join us on March Break to complete the Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Emergency First Aid all in one week.

This 16-hour Standard First Aid course provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of � rst aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of � rst aid such as: medi-cal/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold inju-ries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns and medical emergencies.

Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid is recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the Ontario Health Regulations. Standard First Aid is one of the prerequisites to National Lifeguard.

Important SFA Information

Holders of Standard First Aid certi� cates from other agencies may not recertify their certi� cate with a Lifesaving Society recerti� cation course. They may recertify only with the original certifying agency or take a full course. In order to comply with WSIB regulations, Standard First Aid award holders may do their � rst recerti� cation at a recerti� cation course within three years of the original course (Lifeguards: two years). Thereafter, individuals must alternate between full courses and recerti� cation course in order to renew their award.

In this, course time is devoted in both classroom and water sessions to developing skills in the areas of class management, teaching, evaluation, lead-ership, communication and administration.

The National Lifeguard certi� cation is the stan-dard measurement of lifeguard performance in Canada. This course is designed to develop sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgement and a mature responsible attitude to-ward the role of the lifeguard. The program em-phasizes teamwork, leadership, communications, and the prevention of accidents and the treatment of medical emergencies.

Participants are taught advanced lifeguarding skills in a lecture format and are required to demonstrate competency in managing a variety of emergency situations within an aquatic environment. Success-ful completion of this course will certify the candi-date in the only nationally recognized lifeguarding award. This award remains current for two years from the date of certi� cation
