INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING FOR 2018-2019 AHS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS:

1. Go to classroom.google.com and log in with your school username and password.Once you are logged in, click the “+” in the top, right hand corner. Next, click “Joinclass”. A prompt will appear asking for the class code.

2. On the scholarship packet, locate the class code (mixture of lower-case letters andnumbers in parentheses just after the title of the scholarship - do not include theparentheses) for the scholarship for which you wish to apply. Place that code in theprompt, and click “Join”. You will now be a member of that classroom. Click the“Classwork” heading in the top middle. Next, click “Scholarship requirements”, andyou will see a list of all documents required for that scholarship, including anyattachments.

3. MUST FOLLOW the instructions on the next page for the fillable Local ScholarshipApplication. If you do not follow the instructions, the fillable application WILL NOTwork. Complete and upload the 2018-2019 Local Scholarship Application (fillabledocument), required documents (if any), and other assignments required located inthe classrooms of the individual scholarships. You only need to download one LocalScholarship Application. Fill it out and upload the one copy from your desktop to all ofthe different scholarship classrooms for which you are applying that require the LocalScholarship Application. Some scholarships require their own application. In thatcircumstance, an individual application specific to that scholarship will be present, andthe Local Scholarship Application will not be required for that particular scholarship.Download it, fill it out by hand, and upload it just like the Local ScholarshipApplication. Proofread all applications before you upload them!!

4. Write a letter to each scholarship committee concerning your goals and future plansin a word processing program. Personalize each letter.

5. If an essay is required for a certain scholarship, you may upload it directly to theclassroom of that scholarship. Only include an essay if the scholarship requiresit, and be sure to address the essay’s topic.

6. Request your transcript from the registrar’s office as soon as possible. It may takethem a few days to process it, and you will need to upload it to the classrooms of thescholarships that require it.

7. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANTSave ALL documents to your DESKTOP (not your Google Drive) as your first nameand then the title of the document BEFORE you upload them.(ex: John Doe Academic Resume)

8. Complete ALL requirements for local scholarships NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY10, 2019, AT 11:59 P.M. Applications received after this date and time will bemarked as late and quite possibly disqualified.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLABLE APPLICATION

In Google Classroom under Scholarship Requirements click on Fillable Local Scholarship Application.

Click the 3 dots in upper right corner and select Open in new window. Click the download arrow.

Open download in bottom left corner. Right click under the word Scholarship and click on Save as.

Save the blank application on Desktop. Open it on Desktop. Fill in application with your information.

When complete, click on File and Save As. Name the filled in application with your first and last name (ex: “John Doe application”) and save on Desktop. Use this application to upload for scholarships.

2018-2019 Local Scholarships for Alvin High School

Alvin Community College Scholarships - All Alvin Community College scholarships will not open until mid to late January. Once they are open, a link to their scholarships will be sent out. This are only for the scholarships directly from ACC. If the scholarship is listed below, it is active now.

A.C.C.A.E.O.P. Scholarship (k5rsef) - (amount varies) this scholarship is for thestudent majoring in one of the following: Business Administration, Computer InformationTechnology, Management, Office Administration. A student needs to be ranked in thetop 50% of their class. Will be attending ACC in the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020semesters taking at least 12 hours and maintain a 2.5 GPA to continue on scholarshipfor the next semester. Financial need may be a determining factor.

Academic UIL Scholarship (gm3yq5) – (Varies) Must have participated in the UIL academic program. Discuss experience in UIL academic competitions, the benefits you have received by participating in UIL academics, and outline your educational and career goals in the letter of application.

AHS Alumni Association Scholarship (e4ai5ds) (1-$1,000) One parent must be a AHS alumni (must submit parent’s name(s) and year(s) of graduation from AHS, please include mother’s maiden name), include your application, personal letter, 2 letters of recommendation, transcript, 5 paragraph essay with the importance of being selected as a recipient of the scholarship and how beneficial other than financial this scholarship is, resume and list community service.

AHS Alumni Water Polo Scholarship (e77h5z) – (3 - $500 in memory of Ben Garcia-1998, Andres Garcia-2002 and Tyler Buelow/Siegars-2010) must have participated on the AHS water polo team this year, must attend college Fall 2019, character assessed – candidate should demonstrate the qualities exemplified by Benjamin James Garcia, scholastic performance, performance on the team(s), school and extracurricular activities, essay of less than 500 words discussing how AHS water polo has affected your life, a confidence-building resume that indicates your accomplishments, financial need NOT considered.

Alvin A&M Mothers’ Club Scholarship (4kysj2) - (Varies) Any students who have been accepted to and are planning to attend Texas A&M University or Texas A&M University - Galveston, may apply for the Alvin A&M Mother's Club scholarship. Students should write a letter to the Scholarship Committee that explains why attending Texas A&M University is important to them. Students must also submit the AISD Local Scholarship Application, transcript, 2 recommendations, resume and letter (previously described). Amount and number of scholarships varies each year.

Alvin Extension Club Scholarship (gmf35q) – (varies) Scholarships are to benefit 4H students graduating from AISD schools. Applicant must have 4H experience and membership during high school years (does not have to be all 4 years). Student will need to submit recommendation from 4H club leader, or County Extension Agent. Also, a letter written by the student explaining what 4H has meant to you and in what way your experiences in 4H will impact your future. Must have been a member sometime during their 4 years of high school. Alvin FFA Alumni Scholarship (tjyr658) – ($250 - $500) must be a current member of FFA in good standing, enrolled in an agriculture class and a paid FFA member for 3 out of the 4 years while in high school, will be attending technical college or a 2 or 4 year college in Fall of 2019. Half of the scholarship money will be disbursed each semester. Alvin FFA Scholarship (bvrmv7a) – (1-$250 minimum) must be a daily active Alvin FFA member, enrolled in an Ag Science class during this school year, attend an accredited college in fall 2019. The student must complete and pass 12 accredited hours at a college or technical school before money is dispersed 2nd semester. Verification by means of an official college transcript must be sent to their high school counselor. Alvin FFA Lonestar Scholarship (pru1b5d) – ($250 - $750) applicant must have been awarded or notified by the Texas FFA Association that the applicant will be awarded the Lonestar Degree. Applicant must be a current member of FFA in good standing, enrolled in an agriculture class and a paid FFA member for 3 out of the 4 years while in high school, will be attending technical college or a 2 or 4 year college in Fall of 2019. Half of the scholarship money will be disbursed each semester. Alvin High School Choir Boosters Scholarship (r11di8) - (1 - $600) plan to major in music, applicant must show service to choir programs during high school. Alvin ISD Education Foundation Scholarship (lyrumd8) – ($1,000) Student must be in the top 10% of the class to qualify. This will not be a need-based scholarship, but an academic scholarship. Alvin Masonic Lodge Scholarship (idinp5v) – (varies) Student must have participated in extracurricular activities for at least 4 years through his/her high school academic career and also have a great moral turpitude. In addition, the applicant must write an essay of 500 to 750 words about Texas Masonry and its relation to our Texas Education System. Furthermore, the applicant will write a personal letter to the committee about their future college plans and career goals. Alvin Rotary Club - Beryl Cline Scholarship (1jvjgd) – ($1,000), Top 10% of class, must have attended AISD junior and senior years, college of choice Alvin Rotary Club - Clyde Shepherd Scholarship (hj1jhi) – ($1,000) Top 10% of class, must have attended AISD junior and senior years, college of choice

Alvin Rotary Club - Elmer Dezso Scholarship (yunhmhf) – ($1,000) Top 20% of class, must have attended AISD junior and senior years, must attend ACC Alvin Rotary Club - Neal Nelson Memorial Scholarship (m25gd82) – ($1,000) top 20% of class, must have attended AISD junior and senior years, financial need considered, must attend ACC Alvin Sunrise Rotary Career and College Scholarship (myk9dc) – ($1,000) Top 50% of class, must have attended AISD junior and senior years, attend a trade school/technical or community college with a declared major in a hands-on technical field. Rotary Clubs are known for providing community service, both locally and internationally. In your letter to the Alvin Sunrise Rotary Club Scholarship Committee, explain how furthering your education will allow you to become a better citizen and serve your community. Alvin Sunrise Rotary Club Service Above Self Scholarship (uc6wx57) – ($1,000) Student must rank in the top 25% percent in class, must have attended AISD junior and senior years, must have volunteer hours documented, school and community activities, college of choice. Rotary Clubs are known for providing community service, both locally and internationally. In your letter to the Alvin Sunrise Rotary Club Scholarship Committee, explain how furthering your education will allow you to become a better citizen and serve your community. Alvin-Manvel Knights of Columbus Scholarship (4h268wc) – (8-$1,000; $250 per year) The applicant must be a graduating senior and meets college entrance requirements. The student must be a paid-up member of the K of C, Council 6403; or a child of a paid-up member of K of C, Council 6403; or child of a deceased member of the K of C, Council 6403; or a sibling of a paid-up member of the K of C, Council 6403; or a grandchild of a paid-up or deceased member of K of C, Council 6403. Selection will be based on scholastic ability, participation in high school, church, and community activities, financial need, must enroll full time and work towards a Bachelor’s Degree.

Anthony Johnson Spirit Scholarship (4j6ai1u) - ($500) This spirit scholarship is an award intended for a senior band student. The applicant needs to have an attitude and participation record that exemplifies the spirit of the band. He/She understands the value of working hard, working as a team, and that someone is needed to do every job. The student has a record of going above and beyond with band-volunteering, showing up even when not required, helping others, and most of all, having a positive attitude. Enrolled in college or technical college in fall of 2019. Arnold Cope Memorial Trade School "Dirty Jobs" Scholarship (arv1i2u) - This scholarship is for high school graduates of Alvin ISD who will be pursuing a certificate OR degree in one of the Trades (i.e Welding,electrical, auto mechanics ect).Anyone pursuing a career in a "dirty job" may apply. Requirements: 2.5 GPA, 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, 2 personal letters of recommendation from adults Ashley Charlotte Hicks Memorial Scholarship I (et3zb) - This scholarship is in honor of Ashley Hicks, who was killed in a car accident in March 2018 of her senior year at AHS. Ashley was in the dual degree program preparing for her college and high school graduations. This scholarship is for a FEMALE student who is enrolled in the dual degree program and will receive an associate’s degree in May of her senior year with plans to attend a 4-year university in Texas in the fall. Ashley Charlotte Hicks Memorial Scholarship II (pv96ug9) - This scholarship is in honor of Ashley Hicks, who was killed in a car accident in March 2018 of her senior year at AHS. Ashley enjoyed being involved in the activities at AHS, being a part of the Tunnel Crew and being with her friends. This scholarship is for students who have completed at least 12 college hours by May of their senior year with plans to attend college in Texas in the fall. Must provide a short video clip (3-5 min) introducing yourself and your plans for the future. Ashley Charlotte Hicks Memorial Scholarship III (wdg4b18) - This scholarship is in honor of Ashley Hicks, who was killed in a car accident in March 2018 of her senior year at AHS. Ashley loved her family, friends and Jesus. This scholarship is for students who plan to attend college or trade school in Texas in the fall. Applicant must provide a short video clip (3-5 min) introducing yourself and sharing your relationship with Jesus and how He is working in your life. ATPE Scholarship (3m6v1x) – (2 - $500) must attend college during the 2019-2020 school year and plan to become a teacher. Include an essay about teaching – “Why I Want to Become a Teacher.” Be sure to include what you want to teach and the grade level. No more than two pages long, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font minimum. Ben Garcia Memorial Scholarship (drbezvb) – ($1,000) must attend college Fall 2019, character assessed-candidate should demonstrate the qualities exemplified by Benjamin James Garcia, scholastic performance, performance on a AHS team and/or extracurricular activities, essay of 500 words or less describing how AHS activity has affected your life.

Camp Mohawk Scholarship (uu2d4x3) - Rank in top 25% of class; Attend an accredited college – Fall 2019; Award Criteria: Academic standing, SAT or ACT Scores, School and community activities, Leadership positions held, Letter to committee, and Teacher recommendations (2 from teachers in your intended major, if possible); Financial Need considered - Amount of each scholarship varies from year to year. Financial Need. 3. School and Community Activities Dallas Family Scholarship (5f64mex) (1-$4,000) must attend a Texas college during the 2019-2020 school year. The applicant needs to be in the top 25% of their class and the scholarship will be awarded by semester. To claim second semester money, the applicant must have successfully completed 12 credits the first semester with a 2.25 GPA. Any college major. Evan Funderburg Memorial Scholarship (3qbhc) – ($600) AHS choir students who have given outstanding performances in high school musicals. Gary L. Davis Honorary Scholarship (Chocolate Bayou Community FCU) (qhaj6r5) - (Varies) To be eligible for consideration, applicants must: • be a current member in good standing (or have a parent who is a member in good standing). If you are not a current member, you may join the credit union and become eligible to apply for the scholarship program. • plan to attend an accredited college or university during the 2019-2020 school year Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic excellence, leadership, and community service. Health is Wealth Scholarship (ait5b3) - ($250) The students eligible for assistance must be graduating high school seniors who attend Alvin ISD and intend to continue their education at a two or four-year college or university. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need and the student’s community service record. Students must have no lower than a 2.5 GPA and complete a Wellness Evaluation at ABSOLUTE NUTRITION in Alvin. INEOS Chocolate Bayou Works 2019 Academic Excellence Awards Scholarship (w46c5j) - (3 - $1,000) attend any accredited institution beyond high school in the fall of 2017, applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 scale (unweighted) to qualify, provide the following: school activities and organizations, honors and awards, community involvement, considerations and essay. The applicant will be majoring in either Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. Ivan Garza Memorial Scholarship (vv4pdk) – ($500) must have attended Fairview Junior High as a student and plan to attend college, university, or technical school during the 2019-2020 school year. Selection criteria: 1. Academic Achievement. 2. Financial Need. 3. School and Community Activities. Preference will be given to a student or former student in the AVID Program. Include an essay addressing the following: “Explain an obstacle that you have overcome and how you persevered during this difficult time”. John R. Lawrence Memorial Scholarship (epyfuv6) - ($500) The recipient of this scholarship MUST have attended Longfellow Elementary. Recipient of this scholarship will be based upon community service record, essay, extracurricular activities, leadership positions, demonstration of reliability, integrity, and economic need. The student will be attending college the Fall of 2019. The student must pass and complete 12 accredited hours with a 2.0 GPA at a college or technical school before scholarship money is awarded. Money will be distributed December 2019 after college transcript is sent to Longfellow Elementary, ATTN: Mary Jane Meyer, 1300 East House Street, Alvin, Texas 77511. Joshua Aaron Fitzwater Christian Scholarship (zkaj4y) - (1 - $500) Applicants for this scholarship should be called to full-time Christian ministry. This ministry can be pastoral, youth or music ministry within the church. The applicant will need to attend in the Fall of 2019 a Bible school or church sponsored school that will enable the applicant to become a full-time minister of the gospel. Laura Lynn Graef Memorial Scholarship (59bypk) – ($1,000) must attend college Fall 2019. Must have participated in swim, dive or water polo at Alvin High School. A 500 word or less essay discussing how AHS water team sport has affected your life. This scholarship will be given in memory of Laura Lynn Graef. Marguerite Edwards Scholarship (d3wy2d) - Rank in top 15% of class; Attend an accredited college – Fall 2019; Award Criteria: Academic standing, SAT or ACT Scores, School and community activities, Leadership positions held, Letter to committee, and Teacher recommendations (2 from teachers in your intended major, if possible) Financial Need NOT considered

Mariana Walker Memorial Scholarship (kuds9v) - ($500) applicant has to have been a member of AHS choir for at least two years. Two teacher letters of recommendation are required, one of the two must be from the AHS Choir director. Priority will be given to students with financial need. Mike Snyder Memorial Science Scholarship (db4fby) - ($1,500) This scholarship is presented in memory of Mike Snyder, an AHS science teacher for 13 years. Applicants for this scholarship should have a passion for science and plan to pursue a college degree in a physical science. Those who are taking AP Physics and/or plan to become high school science teachers are strongly encouraged to apply. Otto Paris Band Award (u3ws3xa) – ($1,000) Recipient will be a current AHS band member, financial need will be considered, and a letter to the selection committee explaining how band has positively impacted your life, must attend college Fall 2019. Peggy Bowman McCauley Memorial Scholarship (sv8v94) - (1-$2,500) This scholarship is given in memory of Peggy Bowman McCauley. She was a 1956 graduate of Alvin High School and she was the AHS secretary from 1989-2000. Scholarship recipient must be enrolled in a college of his/her choice in the fall of 2019. Any college major. Roel Saldivar Memorial Scholarship (p1yy57) - ($500) The Roel Saldivar Scholarship is to be awarded to a senior who is going into a field that has an impact on the automotive industry. Roel was a product of the Automotive Technology class at AHS, he attended Universal Technical Institute, worked for 4 Wheel Parts and later became an Auto Tech teacher for Alvin ISD. Education played an important part in furthering Roel's career. Please list the extracurricular activities you are involved in, what college you plan to attend, and what do you plan on majoring in. Soroptimist International of Alvin - High School Senior Girls Scholarship (q441te) - ($500) Must be female to apply. Soroptimist International of Alvin is an organization dedicated to helping women and girls succeed. GPA of 3.25 or better Sue Clark Memorial Scholarship (ka32nq6) - ($5,000) Student must be accepted and attend Texas A&M University. Robert & Jeff Johnson Memorial Scholarship (bwpghy) – ($500) college of choice. The Skidmore Family Scholarship (218ahu) – ($1,500) The scholarship will be awarded to an Alvin Yellowjacket Football player who finished their senior year in good standing with the Yellowjacket Football program. Community service, financial need, and GPA all considered Uncle Jim Barham Memorial Scholarship (aa1b3b) - ($1,000) Must be an active graduating student, and one parent must be an AISD Alumni. (Submit parent name(s), and year(s) of graduation) Applicant must write a personalized letter to the committee

describing your involvement in high school, your experiences there, your college intent, your career goals, and tell us your GPA. GPA is not a deciding factor. Waste Connections Scholarship (ncu3mk) - ($1,000) these scholarships are to encourage and assist a worthy High School Senior whose wish is to continue his/her studies at a four-year college/university, a two year community college, or a trade/technical school. Must be in the top 50% of graduating class and must have participated in a school or community activity. Must read and sign the Waste Connections Scholarship page. Waste Connections, Inc. / City of Alvin Scholarship (tcyq1j) - (2-$1,000) This student needs to be active in school activities, has shown leadership, and has documented volunteer service hours. The student may attend the college of his/her choice. One scholarship will be based on financial need and the other will be based on academic success. William & Linda Kettler Memorial Scholarship (p5xuar) - (varies) Applicant must have attended school in AISD for their entire education, from 1st grade until graduation. Active participation in school and community is a requirement. GPA is not a deciding factor, but knowing you did your best is! In a letter addressed to this scholarship committee, please describe your experience of growing up and attending school in the Alvin community; include your involvement in school related activities, as well as in the Alvin community. Zachary (Zac) Juelich Scholarship (p5mp28t) - ($1,000) This scholarship is for students interested in attending a technical or trade school. This includes technical certification classes at ACC or San Jacinto Jr. College. Applicant should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship will be divided over 2 semesters and a student must show proof of full time enrollment and a minimum 2.5 GPA to receive the funds for the second semester. In your letter to the committee, please include the school you plan to attend, the certification you will be working toward and your career goals. No essay is required.
