Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is a grace, privilege and blessing to be able to serve you at Holy Cross Parish. There are so many amazing families and wonderful individuals in our community. Many who visit our parish have expressed their amazement at our faith-filled community. This is evident because The Holy Eucharist is the source, summit and center of everything at Holy Cross. When we seek the Lord first, He in turn takes care of our needs (Matthew 6:33). In our school, The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the first class of the day, this is one of the main reasons for our school's continued growth. The lines for the Sacrament of Confession are ever lengthening. A number of young men and women over the years have entered the seminary and religious life. As of this writing, five men are currently in seminary and another young lady is entering religious life next year. Our service to those in need is evident through our St. Vincent de Paul Society, Enriching Lives Ministry, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who visit the homebound, and our ministry at Kane County Jail, along with many other ministries. Although the fruits of the Holy Spirit are here, we must never become complacent or lukewarm in our gratitude. Thanksgiving is key. Let us enthusiastically Give Back to the Lord in Thanksgiving by meeting the needs of the parish currently and for generations to come. This brochure will provide a more detailed overview of each of the following three project phases.

First, we will build a permanent and perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel named after the great Pope St. John Paul II. It will be a warm and inviting place for all to worship our Eucharistic Lord (24/7/365 days a year).

Second, the renovations to the interior of the church will provide a welcoming and safe environment for worshiping Almighty God. We have the duty, honor and responsibility to maintain our spiritual home just like our family homes.

A LETTER FROM FATHER PARKER

Third, we need to expand and renovate our campus in order to provide a more secure environment for the children of our parish. This will free up space for other ministries to meet, grow and expand in order to serve the community of Holy Cross.

Therefore, we will be asking our Holy Cross Family, including all those who attend the school and come to Eucharistic Adoration, to consider making a three-year pledge towards our capital campaign. Sacrifice is the language of love. Ask the Lord in the silence of your heart for the sacrificial amount He is nudging you to pledge. This may hurt because the Lord is always stretching us in order to expand our hearts to receive more of His Love. After reflection and prayer, we ask for both your participation and sacrificial sharing of the gifts God has bestowed on you. Excess funds beyond our goal will be placed in a Major Repairs Endowment Fund.

Let us have “zeal for the house of the Lord” (Psalm 69:9) and provide for future generations by our sacrifices today. Supernatural acts of charity which require sacrifice possess great potency and ring down through the years into eternity. In the words of St. Paul, “whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17).

God bless you abundantly through the Immaculate Heart,

Rev. Jim Parker, Pastor

Pope St. John Paul II consistently pointed the faithful to Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist. "Jesus wants us to do more than to go to Mass on Sunday. Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic adoration in order that our love may be complete” (Redeemer of Man, Mar. 4, 1979). The parishes where the Blessed Sacrament is loved and adored flourish and bear good fruits. This has been evident at our parish. Msgr. Deutsch, while pastor of Holy Cross, began our current adoration chapel on October 9, 2005 asking our Lord to bless our parish with a school. This intention has been granted. Holy Cross Parish has a wonderful school which continues to grow each year, and the students attend Mass every day receiving Holy Communion and spending time each week adoring the Lord. Adoration has also produced the fruit of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We also have 5 young men currently in seminary from our parish. Also, our daily Mass attendance is outstanding.

The current chapel has always been a temporary solution. The intention from the beginning was to build a separate chapel with a bell tower in which perpetual (24/7/365 days a year) adoration of the Blessed Sacrament would take place. Many have helped make the current adoration space a worthy location for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament during the interim. However, now is the time to Give Back to the Lord in Thanksgiving by building something beautiful and permanent for Jesus, a true haven of silence where adorers can immerse themselves in the infinite depth of our Lord’s Eucharistic Presence. Holy Cross is a very busy parish with many ministries. The current chapel location is at the intersection of in and out traffic, activities in the main body of the church, and so on. The current space cannot be used for adoration during the weekend Masses, graduations, big feast days and a host of other events.

In addition, our current chapel location is a security risk; once inside, people have access to many parts of the building. We have been fortunate over the years that no serious vandalism has occurred – no doubt our parish Guardian Angel has been hard at work! A stand-alone chapel will allow peaceful adoration 24/7 the whole year without

interruption. It will also have its own bathroom area, so that the church can be completely secured during the nighttime hours. The current adoration space would be used for weekend Masses and be transformed into a Baptistry.

The new chapel will include a bell tower modeled after the original Holy Cross Church with a beautiful cross on top. We are, after all, called Holy Cross. This newly constructed bell tower will house the sacred bell from the original church and its ringing will reverberate again in Batavia.

Our Lord Jesus Christ resides in the center of our church in the tabernacle which makes the church a sacred and holy place. Therefore, we strive to honor and serve Our Lord by maintaining and taking care of our church home. When the art and music in a Catholic Church are done well, it is both inspirational and educational while complementing the aesthetics of the Sanctuary and the Sacred Liturgy. The addition of a bell tower would not only further identify our building as a church, its ringing would echo our Catholic Liturgy and liturgical year across the city, proclaiming to all within ears’ reach moments such as weddings, funerals, and Mass times.

Improved lighting and carpeting/flooring, along with an updated organ will work together to heighten our Catholic Mass and other sacred events in the church itself. The plan to upgrade lighting around the altar and in other areas to LED lightning will increase cost efficiency and improve the ambiance. Replacing the worn carpeting along with a new marble floor at the nave, base of the altar and in the choir area, will improve the acoustics in the sanctuary. Our current electronic organ uses technology that is long outdated and is getting more difficult to repair. We have been informed that our speaker amplifiers are at the end of their life expectancy and that it would be more effective and fiscally responsible to replace the organ.

The Lord has blessed us so abundantly and given us so many gifts. It is our responsibility to maintain our spiritual home in the same way we maintain our family home – keeping it clean, organized, and functional for current ministry and those who will come after us, our children and grandchildren.

Due to building safety needs, a continued increase in our school enrollment, and parish ministry needs it has become necessary for us to seek a campus expansion. This campus expansion will allow us to meet the needs of our parish/school community by providing the necessary infrastructure.

Safety - an addition to the campus will allow our students to have a more secure Lunchroom, a separate chapel, and a Music Room within the school building. Currently, our students eat lunch daily in our parish hall, use the church Adoration Chapel for prayer weekly, and attend weekly music class in a meeting room within our parish hall. The current arrangement creates potential safety issues as our students are, at times, away from the main school building. In the event of an emergency, the current arrangement poses some challenges for administration and teaching staff to account for and locate all students quickly.

School growth - Our current projected enrollment for the 2018-19 school year is 450+ students. We are adding a preschool classroom as our projected enrollment for preschool for the 2018-19 school year is 60+ students. Consequently, we are converting an Art/Spanish classroom to a preschool classroom for next year. While we will cap our school enrollment at 475, it is important to add the preschool classroom as it provides a steady inflow of kindergarteners to maintain a vibrant and full school. As we are out of classroom space, it will be necessary for us to find a temporary classroom for our Art/Spanish classes. The building expansion will ensure that we will be able to continue providing high quality instruction in specials classes as well as core classes. Our goal is to have adequate classroom space for Music, Band/Orchestra, Art, and Spanish along with a kitchen and cafeteria in the Holy Cross Education Center. In addition, we have a long-range plan to continue to expand our elective course offerings to ensure our students are well-prepared for high school.

Ministries - The campus expansion would allow us to bring back, or allow us to expand, our Funeral Luncheon Ministry, Bible Studies, Creche home-schooling group, Senior Citizens group and many other ministries in Donovan Hall. Some of these ministries have been very limited on meeting at Holy Cross and some suspended due to lack of available

space. A campus expansion would better serve both the school and ministry groups who utilize shared space currently. By moving all school and religious education programs back into the Holy Cross Education Center with this expansion, it would then free up space in Donovan Hall for our other ministries to meet, grow, and serve the Lord along with the community of Holy Cross.

We have a wonderful opportunity in this time which God’s Providence has assigned us. We will play a unique role in the history of our parish and its growth. Let us Give Back to the Lord in Thanksgiving for the many blessings He has bestowed on us through the years.

THREE PHASE PROJECT PLAN

Because the project is so massive, attached is a three-phase plan to address priorities in order of importance of the proposed project. The Diocese of Rockford requires 75% of cash in hand before construction begins. The project will be phased appropriately with the goal of assuming no debt. Realistically, some minor debt might be incurred to complete certain necessary aspects of the project as they occur. The following chart depicts the various phases of the project and costs associated with these stages. If the Lord and the good people of Holy Cross bless us with any revenues above our goal, they will be placed in the Major Repairs Fund to plan for future capital needs.

SUGGESTED GIFT PLANS

As a member of our community, your support to our campaign for the new construction of the Pope St. John Paul II Perpetual Adoration Chapel, Campus Expansion, and Church Renovations is of great importance. We invite you to consider a sacrificial pledge to our Give Back to the Lord in Thanksgiving fund drive. You may choose monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual payments to fulfill your pledge. Although we welcome gifts at levels and periods of time not listed below, we kindly request that you prayerfully consider letting this be your guide in determining your level of support. All amounts listed below are rounded off to the nearest dollar.

Through our baptism, we have been called to be workers with Christ in His community. Everything we have is a gift from God. It is only right that our gratitude for His generosity should be reflected in the gifts we give back to Him. The gospel story of the widow’s mite is a wonderful example of sacrifice. Our campaign, entitled Give Back to the Lord in Thanksgiving, seeks gifts of equal sacrifice, not equal amounts.

The parish deeply appreciates every gift and sincerely thanks all parishioners for their generosity. We invite all donors to make an initial payment of 10% or more at the time of their pledge. Please make all checks payable to: Holy Cross Catholic Church – CC2018.
