EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS | 2017 CONFERENCE AND CAREER FAIR 1
You are part of a movement of law students and lawyers committed to working for equal justice. At Equal Justice Works, we aim to do everything in our power to provide the next generation of lawyers with the knowledge and resources needed to launch a public interest law career. Through-out the weekend, more than 1,300 committed law students like you will have the opportunity to interview with more than 180 public interest employers from across the country.
In addition to the Career Fair, we also offer a dynamic and comprehensive Conference—don’t miss out as leaders in the field share insights, experiences, and innovative solutions through a variety of panels and workshops.
Here are some of this year’s highlights:
• U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second female Justice in U.S. history, will discuss her storied public interest law career with the Honorable Ann Claire Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit
• Equal Justice Works’ student representatives, hailing from campuses across the country, will convene to discuss how leadership and advocacy by law students can affect change, especially in regards to disaster relief efforts in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria
• Workshops will discuss public interest careers in international, environmental, and immigration law, in addition to sessions on police accountability and voting rights
• Table Talk sessions will connect you with dozens of employers—put yourself out there and learn about the work they do!
• Mock interviews and résumé and cover letter reviews will give you immediate feedback as you prepare for the job application process
In addition to the workshops and sessions, I encourage you to spend time networking with your peers. Learn about what they are doing in their schools and communities, and consider how you can implement these ideas on your own campus.
I want to thank the faculty and staff from our member law schools who support the public interest aspirations of their students. This event would be impossible without their help.
By attending this event, you join an extraordinary community of law students and lawyers commit-ted to equal justice. Our goal is for you to leave this Conference and Career Fair fired up and with new relationships and ideas about how you can make a difference.
Sincerely,
David Stern Executive Director Equal Justice Works

EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS | 2017 CONFERENCE AND CAREER FAIR EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS | 2017 CONFERENCE AND CAREER FAIR 23
The mission of EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS is to create a just society by mobilizing the next generation of lawyers committed to Equal Justice. Founded by law students in 1986, the organization has grown to become a leader in the public interest legal field with programs that provide a sustain-able pipeline of talented and trained lawyers involved in public service. Equal Justice Works offers a wealth of opportunities and resources to accom-pany students through law school and into their legal careers. We provide the nation’s largest public interest law fellowship program, offering more post-graduate, full-time legal positions in pub-lic service than any other organization. From its founding, Equal Justice Works has collaborated with the nation’s leading law schools, law firms, corpo-rate legal departments, and nonprofit organizations to provide the training and skills that enable attorneys to of-fer effective representation to vulnera-ble populations.
RESOURCESOur STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES are outstanding public interest law students that serve as Equal Justice Works ambassadors on their law school campuses and use grassroots organizing methods to help spread the word about public interest law, all while developing as law school leaders. Our EDUCATIONAL DEBT RELIEF EXPERTS inform students and their advisors on the many educational debt relief options that are available to those who commit their careers to public service. Through education and advocacy, we work to provide the public with passionate and dedicated lawyers unburdened by student loan debt. Our STUDENT ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM engages directly with law students across the country, providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed in public service.Sign up at students-equaljusticeworks.org to share your thoughts, receive up-dates, and bring us to your school.
CORE PROGRAMSThe EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM is the largest postgraduate legal Fellowship program in the nation, forging partner-ships among public interest lawyers, nonprofit organizations, law firms/cor-porate sponsors, and other donors in order to provide quality representation to vulnerable communities.AmeriCorps’ sole national legal pro-gram since 1993, the EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS AMERICORPS LEGAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM addresses gaps in the legal aid community through pro bono man-agement and direct representation for thousands of people nationwide on a variety of issues. The EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS AMERICORPS JD PROGRAM provides law students with the opportunity to earn an education award for serving low-income and underserved commu-nities at qualifying nonprofit and public interest legal organizations.
