Welcome!

Welcome to Vancouver!

2017 is the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada and the 130th anniversary of the founding of the YMCA of Greater Vancouver. These two milestones reflect the important work of community building—priorities that have been at the heart of the YMCA for generations. We can think of no better way to celebrate these milestones than welcoming our friends and colleagues from around the globe to the World Urban Network 2017 conference.

We’ve shaped this conference around the theme of What Really Matters. For each of us it is a call to action in the knowledge the most significant learning associated with the WUN comes from each other. Our hope is you will find this opportunity one that will inspire, engage, provoke and renew.

I hope you have a great experience in Vancouver. Thanks for being here.

Dear Colleague, It is my great pleasure, alongside our host Stephen Butz, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Vancouver and Bill Stewart, CEO of the YMCA World Urban Network, to welcome you to our CEO Conference in Vancouver.

The WUN exists to offer outstanding leadership development opportunities and peer support to CEOs and senior leaders of local YMCA associations from all parts of the world. The theme of this year’s conference is What Really Matters to you and to your global colleagues. We hope that you have an outstanding time with your colleagues in Vancouver, and that you also to take home knowledge that impacts your work, and the work of your YMCA for years to come.

For many of us the YMCA WUN has been a place where we have been able to develop deep connections and relationships with colleagues from around the world, enabling us to grow and develop as leaders as well as being able to offer real and tangible support to each other in times of challenge and difficulty.

We look forward to having you join us for what I know will be an outstanding shared experience

I know I speak for the whole network when I say we look forward to meeting with you, sharing with you, learning with you and growing with you this September in Vancouver.

The World Urban Network holds a unique place within the Y world. Focused on leaders of urban Ys operating around the globe, WUN cultivates perspective which might not otherwise be present in the national or North American context. The best of this insight exist in the combined experience of the WUN membership—specifically those who actively engage in the process of sharing and learning. WUN 2017 will focus on unlocking this potential by activating the network on the critical issues affecting YMCA leaders.

What Really Matters to You?

Conference Goals• Create an atmosphere of trust where you can give

and get in a transparent, inclusive manner• Invite speakers with the capacity to provoke our

thinking and interaction• Create ample space for discussion with global

colleagues who share YMCA leadership responsibilities similar in size and scope

• Walk away from the event with knowledge you can put to use in your Y
