The 2017 reading camp will also serve identified 1 st and 2 nd grade students this summer. Students were selected using the following data points: reading level ranges, Fall to Spring MAP growth, and teacher recommendations. They will work in small class settings to learn and practice strategies for reading and writing during the five week camp at North Springs Elementary. July – 24 – August 3 Stars of Tomorrow Elementary Camp This camp is designed by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department for rising 3 rd -5 th grade students. Students will be introduced to DARE and programs for fitness and team building. The camp will be on the campus of E.L. Wright Middle.

The Urban League of Columbia is sponsoring a camp for district students from the ages of 10 – 13 on the campus of Longleaf Middle School. The camp focuses on leadership, life skill development, career awareness and service learning.

July 24 – August 3 Character Camp

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has designed activities and classes that promote positive character-building skills and good citizenship to help elementary students transition to middle school. This camp is for rising 6th graders and will be hosted at E. L. Wright Middle.

July 24 – August 3 CSI Kids Camp The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has designed activities to expose students to the world of forensic science through technology and hands-on learning experiences. This camp is for rising 5th – 8th graders

July 24 – August 3 Sports Camp The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has designed activities to introduce students to fundamentals and skill building in a variety of sports to include basketball, flag football, and baseball. There will be a focus on team building, character and sportsmanship. This camp is for rising 7th- 9th graders and will be hosted at Spring Valley High.

June 26 - July 15 Tri-District Arts Consortium Rising 6th - 9th grade artistically gifted and talented students from the Midlands (Richland 2, Richland/Lexington 5, and Lexington 1) will participate in the annual Tri-District Arts Consortium. Tri-DAC will provide intense courses in band, creative writing, dance, strings, theater, visual art, and vocal. Participation by a variety of guest artists and performers will enhance instruction. Students will share their final products in a culminating showcase.

June 12 - 15 Robotics Camp The camp is designed for middle school students interested in robotics and engineering with a focus on increasing CATE participation in high schools. It will prepare students for the rigors of high school science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) classes. The camp will be located at Spring Valley High School. (Middle school girls in the AM and boys in the PM)

Blythewood Middle

June 12 - August 4 BMS Charger Pride Summer Camp

BMS is offering extended enrichment opportunities for students during the summer. Students will participate in summer enrichment based on their grade levels. Enrichment activities will include fitness/wellness, arts & crafts, weekly field trips with a focus on math and ELA .

Dent Middle July 24 - 27 Transitions TLC This camp is an orientation for students new to the TLC magnet. Students will spend time each day with their teachers transitioning to middle school and will build relationships with new peers.

August 8 - 10 Transition TWO This program is designed to transition TWO Academies students to middle school.

August 14 LAW Orientation The camp will help students transition to the LAW Program.

July 31 - August 2 Ready, Set, thINC! Camp The camp is offered to rising 6th grade INC students. It will provide support for students transitioning to the INC Program.

July 31 – August 3 Leap into Middle School This is a middle school readiness camp to help students transition to middle school.

Game On! Sports and Fitness Camp

This is a fitness camp for middle school students that incorporates physical activity, healthy habits and social awareness to move students towards a lifetime of health and wellness. Students will develop an understanding of the importance of lifelong physical activity, and will learn to create a personal fitness program. Exercise will be incorporated into daily routines through aerobics, weight training, and recreational activities.

July 31 - August 1 Lead Up The camp is designed as an orientation for rising Leadership Academy students.

August 8 - 10 Summer Stampede The camp will provide rising 6th graders with a jump start on middle school life.

An online district summer school will be provided for eligible 9th – 11th grade students to complete courses virtually. Students may earn up to two credits.

June 20 - 23 Westwood Girls Basketball Academy

The camp is for girls from ages 6 – 15 years of age who are interested in basketball.

June 27 - 29 Redhawk Youth Football Camp

The camp is for rising 1st - 8th grade students interested in football.

July 17 - 20 Westwood Baseball Camp

This camp is for students from ages 6 - 12 interested in baseball. Students will learn the value of sportsmanship and the fundamentals of defense, fielding, hitting, running bases, and pitching along with the fundamentals of baseball.

July 9 - 15 Clemson Scholars: Civil Engineering Materials Engineering through the Electron Microscope

Spaces in both of these camps are available to CAT Grant rising 10th -12th graders who are interested in engineering. The camps are located on the campus of Clemson University.
