Read to Succeed Summer Reading Camp

The state’s Read to Succeed legislation directs districts to provide summer reading camps for 3rd grade students who are reading significantly below grade level. The 2017 reading camp will also serve identified 1st and 2nd grade students this summer. Students were selected using the following data points: reading level ranges, Fall to Spring MAP growth, and teacher recommendations. They will work in small class settings to learn and practice strategies for reading and writing during the five week camp at North Springs Elementary.

July – 24 – August 3 Stars of Tomorrow Elementary Camp

This camp is designed by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department for rising 3rd-5th grade students. Students will be introduced to DARE and programs for fitness and team building. The camp will be on the campus of E.L. Wright Middle.

August 8 - 10 Kinderbear Academy The three day experience is designed to help rising kindergarten students transition into the elementary school setting.

21st Century Summer Explorers

This program will provide academic enrichment for students. Students will focus on reading and math integrated with science, social studies, and health through the utilization of artists in residence, field studies and hands-on activities.

August 9 - 11 NSE Kindergarten Camp The camp is designed to help rising kindergarten students transition into the elementary school setting.

Polo Road August 9 - 10 Kindergarten Camp Rising kindergarten students will participate in a variety of activities to successfully transition into kindergarten.

Pontiac June 5 - 29 Primary Montessori The program will immerse 3, 4, and 5 year old students in weekly themes

Summer Camp that will align with the Montessori Method.

Rice Creek August 1 - 2 Kindergarten Camp This experience is designed to help rising kindergarten students transition into the elementary school setting.

Round Top June 5 - August 4 Boys & Girls Club This program will provide a combination of childcare, enrichment and field studies for students PROVIDED BY Boys & Girls Club of the Midlands.

Windsor June 12 - 22 Winning Windsor Wildcats Students will receive intensive reading and math instruction and participate in enrichment activities provided by the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands.

Middle School Summer School

Middle school summer school for all middle schools in the core content areas will be held on the campus of Summit Parkway Middle School.

August 18 Step Up to 6th Grade The program will offer support for rising 6th grade students to ensure successful transitions to middle school. Each middle school will host Step Up to 6th Grade on August 18th.

Youth Development Academy

The Urban League of Columbia is sponsoring a camp for district students from the ages of 10 – 13 on the campus of Longleaf Middle School. The camp focuses on leadership, life skill development, career awareness and service learning.

July 24 – August 3 Character Camp

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has designed activities and classes that promote positive character-building skills and good citizenship to help elementary students transition to middle school. This camp is for rising 6th graders and will be hosted at E. L. Wright Middle.

July 24 – August 3 CSI Kids Camp The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has designed activities to expose students to the world of forensic science through technology and hands-on learning experiences. This camp is for rising 5th – 8th graders

and will be hosted by Kelly Mill Middle.

July 24 – August 3 Sports Camp The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has designed activities to introduce students to fundamentals and skill building in a variety of sports to include basketball, flag football, and baseball. There will be a focus on team building, character and sportsmanship. This camp is for rising 7th- 9th graders and will be hosted at Spring Valley High.

June 26 - July 15 Tri-District Arts Consortium Rising 6th - 9th grade artistically gifted and talented students from the Midlands (Richland 2, Richland/Lexington 5, and Lexington 1) will participate in the annual Tri-District Arts Consortium. Tri-DAC will provide intense courses in band, creative writing, dance, strings, theater, visual art, and vocal. Participation by a variety of guest artists and performers will enhance instruction. Students will share their final products in a culminating showcase.

June 12 - 15 Robotics Camp The camp is designed for middle school students interested in robotics and engineering with a focus on increasing CATE participation in high schools. It will prepare students for the rigors of high school science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) classes. The camp will be located at Spring Valley High School. (Middle school girls in the AM and boys in the PM)

Blythewood Middle

June 12 - August 4 BMS Charger Pride Summer Camp

BMS is offering extended enrichment opportunities for students during the summer. Students will participate in summer enrichment based on their grade levels. Enrichment activities will include fitness/wellness, arts & crafts, weekly field trips with a focus on math and ELA .

Dent Middle July 24 - 27 Transitions TLC This camp is an orientation for students new to the TLC magnet. Students will spend time each day with their teachers transitioning to middle school and will build relationships with new peers.

August 8 - 10 Transition TWO This program is designed to transition TWO Academies students to middle school.

E. L. Wright Middle

August 14 LAW Orientation The camp will help students transition to the LAW Program.

Kelly Mill Middle

July 31 - August 2 Ready, Set, thINC! Camp The camp is offered to rising 6th grade INC students. It will provide support for students transitioning to the INC Program.

Longleaf Middle July 10 - 13 Summer Engineering Camp The camp is designed for students with a high interest in math and science and who may be interested in engineering careers. Students will

have opportunities to explore engineering in this exciting, hands-on camp via interactive activities and competitions.

July 1- 13 Leap into Algebra An Algebra readiness camp designed for students who will be enrolled in Algebra 1 or Advanced Pre-Algebra in the Fall. The curriculum will reinforce and solidify the pre-algebra skills that are critical for Algebra as well a preview of critical Algebra I content.

July 31 – August 3 Leap into Middle School This is a middle school readiness camp to help students transition to middle school.

Game On! Sports and Fitness Camp

This is a fitness camp for middle school students that incorporates physical activity, healthy habits and social awareness to move students towards a lifetime of health and wellness. Students will develop an understanding of the importance of lifelong physical activity, and will learn to create a personal fitness program. Exercise will be incorporated into daily routines through aerobics, weight training, and recreational activities.

Muller Road Middle

July 31 - August 1 Lead Up The camp is designed as an orientation for rising Leadership Academy students.

August 8 - 10 Summer Stampede The camp will provide rising 6th graders with a jump start on middle school life.

All High Schools

June 19 - July 27 Summer School for Grades 9 - 11

An online district summer school will be provided for eligible 9th – 11th grade students to complete courses virtually. Students may earn up to two credits.

August 18 Fresh Start The program will offer support for rising district 9th grade students to ensure successful transitions to high school. Each high school will host a Fresh Start Program on August 18th.

June 5 - 7 Blythewood Softball Camp

This camp is designed for students in 1st - 8th grades who will learn the fundamentals of offense, defense and base running.

This camp is designed for students from ages 6 -14 to learn the fundamentals of baseball .

June 5 - 7 Little Bengals Camp This three-day football camp is for students in 1st - 4th grades and will focus on position specific agility and technique, general football skills

(passing, receiving, running), kicking & punting, placement kicks) and knowledge.

June 5 - 7 Basketball Skills Camp This camp is designed for children from ages 4-14 and will focus on essential basketball skills.

June 26 - 28 Junior Bengals Camp This three-day football camp is for students in 5th – 8th grades and will focus on position specific agility and technique, general football skills (passing, receiving, running), kicking & punting, placement kicks) and knowledge.

July 31 - August 15 Blue Legion Band Camp This camp will provide training and rehearsal time for band students in preparation for the 2017-18 marching band season.

July 24 - 28 Blue Legion Leadership/Color Guard Camp

The Blue Legion Leadership/Color Guard will prepare for the 2017-18 marching band season.

July 10 - 13 Lady Bengals Youth Volleyball Camp

The focus of the four day camp will be on specific agility and technique; volleyball skills (passing, setting, hitting, serving); conditioning and jumping; tournament play; and general volleyball rules and knowledge.

Richland Northeast High

June 6 - 8 Cavalier Soccer Camp This soccer camp is designed for rising 2nd- 9th graders. They will learn tactical and technical aspects of the game of soccer.

June 8 - 9 Northeast Football Camp This football camp is designed for rising 3rd-9th graders who will focus on learning the game through drills with the Richland Northeast coaching staff.

June 26 - 28 Volleyball Camp This volleyball camp is designed for rising 4th - 10th graders. They will receive instruction on technique and competition. Students will learn the fundamentals to include bumping, spiking, setting, blocking, footwork, digs, positions and serving.
