The Ducks enter 2017 looking to repeat after sweeping both the men’s and women’s NCAA titles in 2016. The Men of Oregon begin the indoor campaign as three-time defending national champions, while the Women of Oregon have won six of the last seven indoor titles. Entries: Although the opening event of the indoor season often serves as a “rust-buster” for the Ducks, according to head coach Robert Johnson, there will still be plenty of big names to watch in the field for Oregon. Perhaps the most-anticipated event for the Ducks will be the women’s 60 meters, as U.S. Olympians Deajah Stevens and Ariana Washington make their 2017 debut and 2016 Pac-12 Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year Hannah Cunliffe makes her return to the track after suffering an injury at last year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships. Highly-touted transfer Elexis Guster, a six-time All-American, also makes her Oregon debut after coming to Eugene from Iowa. In the 200 meters, all-Americans Sasha Wallace and Ashante Horsley open their senior seasons for the Women of Oregon along with well-regarded freshman Hannah Waller. The men’s 200 features a pair of transfers in Julius Shellmire and Joshua Rambert, as well as multiple young talents like Braxton Canady and Cameron Stone. Three-time national champion and four-time all-American Raevyn Rogers opens 2017 in the 600 meters, looking to build on a 2016 season that saw her claim national titles in the 800 meters both indoors and outdoors. Fellow all-American Marcus Chambers will also debut in an “off-event,” running the men’s 60 meters. Redshirt senior Kyree King will also suit up for the Ducks for the first time in the 60 after transfering from Western Kentucky. The Men of Oregon will get their first look at freshmen Austin Tamagno, Jack Yearian and Jackson Mestler in the distance events, while Frida Berge (Mile) and Lilli Burdon (1,000) headline the women’s distance entries. 2017 INDOOR SCHEDULE January 14 UW Indoor Preview (Seattle, Wash.) Rankings: The Women of Oregon enter the 2017 indoor season as the top-ranked team by the USTFCCCA computer rankings, while the Men of Oregon enter the year as the No. 2-ranked men’s team.

Bowerman Watch: The Oregon women were all over the preseason watch list for the top award in the sport, as Raevyn Rogers, Deajah Stevens and Ariana Washington all earned a spot on the list. Edward Cheserek, the only three-time finalist in the history of the award, found himself on the preseason watch list once again for the men.

Cheserek Chasing History: While Edward Cheserek will not compete at the UW Indoor Preview, he enters his senior season on the verge of making NCAA history. Cheserek completed an impressive triple at the NCAA Indoor Championships last year (5,000, 3,000, DMR), and went on to join former Duck Galen Rupp as the only men to win the NCAA cross country title, the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters and distance medley relay, and the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meters in the same academic year. The historic season ran Cheserek’s NCAA championship count to 15, tying him with Suleiman Nyambui (1979-82) for the most combined national cross country/track and field championships won in NCAA history as he makes his final lap for the Men of Oregon.

Rogers Sets Collegiate Record at 2016 UW Preview: Raevyn Rogers stole the show to start the season last year by breaking the indoor collegiate record in the 600 meters (1:26.34), holding off teammate Brooke Feldmeier for the win and recording the second-fastest time ever run by an American.
