Meet your newest Oklahoma

and National 4-H Shooting

Sports Ambassador !

Zachary started shooting with

the 4-H program at age nine.

He began shooting recurve ar-

chery, and now Zach is certi-

fied in archery, air rifle, shot

gun and smallbore rifle.

Zach has been an active partici-

pant in the Northwest District

Winter Shooting series. He has

brought home Jr. Compound

Archery Champion as well as

Senior Air Rifle Champion.

Zachary claimed State 4-H Air

Rifle Jr Champion and placed 4th

& 2nd at State Air rifle as a

senior competitor. Zach also

placed 1st in this year’s mail-in

air rifle contest.

League has represented Okla-homa at Nationals in Air Rifle,

placing 33rd out of 93 in 2016,

and Hunting Skills, placing 10th

out of 54 in 2017. Zach made

appearances on the podium at

Nationals by placing 5th in Gen-eral Hunting Knowledge and 4th

in Hunter Decision Making.

Zach has presented power

point presentations on the

Local, County & State level.

League tag teamed with his

cousin, Austin Rankin (The

Northwest District VP), pre-

sent a workshop called

“Beyond the Range”. League

has organized his local club to

clean up the shooting range at

the Optima wildlife reserve.

Currently League is the Guymon 4-H Club’s President and the Tex-

as County Game Leader.

He is also active in Quiz Bowl,

Band, and track. This summer, He

competed at 4-H Shooting Sports

Nationals and spent an intense

week at the U.S. Coast Guard

Academy’s Introduction Mission.

certified in shotgun and muzzle-

loader, and county level certi-

fied in 22. Pistol and rifle, air

pistol and rifle, hunting and

wildlife, archery, and western

heritage. He has currently

served as a 4-H coach for the

past 18 years and even though

his children are now adults, he

continues to volunteer as a

coach for 4-H in Garfield Coun-

ty.

Lindell says “I have enjoyed my

time and experiences through

Lindell

got his start with 4-H coaching

in 1998, when his two eldest

daughters started participating

in 4-H shooting sports. Lindell

made the decision to become a

certified coach, to ensure his

kids would be able to partici-

pate in aspects of the 4-H

shooting sports program.

Lindell has been certified in all

the 4-H shooting sports disci-

plines in the state of Oklahoma.

He has been state and nationally

4-H shooting sports, and all

these kids have accomplished

over the years. The best part of

being a coach in this program is

getting to watch these kids get

started in our sport and grow

through the program. Eventual-

ly, they will grow up and age out

of the program, but I hope to

have them back in the future, to

help with the youth, passing on

4-H to the future generations to

come.”

We had a successful turn out for the State Small-bore rifle and pistol contest. There were a total number of 23 competitors for the rifle

portion of the contest, and 11 competitors for pistol. The weather was sunny and hot with a slight cool breeze between various stages of

the competition. Several volunteers arrived early to help setting up target stands, arranging the safety line and firing points, and serving

as range officials for the day.

Range officials for the day were Christal Bensch, Terry Nelson, Billy Bullard, Jason Tacker, Charles Urquhart, Sterling Atwood, Ivan Rodg-

ers, Annette Brouse, and JJ Jones. Amanda Goeppinger, Susana Horton, Tonya Boatman and Michael Bensch volunteered to handle scoring.

As the participants arrived they were given instructions to take their cased firearms and equipment to be checked in by Michael Bensch

and Charles Urquhart. Check in ran smoothly and everyone was ready to compete, many bottles of water had already been consumed to

keep the participants, volunteers, and range officials hydrated.

The first part of the event was the Small-bore rifle contest, starting with the 3 position, then the CMP, and finally silhouettes. The second

part of the event was the Small-bore pistol contest, starting with silhouettes, then the slow fire bullseye, and ending with the Camp Perry

round.

Clay Galbreath became the first person

to represent the state of Oklahoma for

the last 5 years at the National Shooting

Sports Championships. Clay has had a

very successful career throughout his

years in the 4-H Shooting Sports Pro-

gram.

Clay has been a huge inspiration to

younger 4-H members in the program,

as well as the people around him out-

side of his sport. Clay has always been

ready to lend a helping hand. He dis-

plays sportsmanship to his fellow com-

petitors and he has shown incredible

leadership skills. Clay has attended the

National championships in muzzleloader,

shotgun, .22 rifle, air rifle and compound

archery.

We wish Clay good luck in his future and

hope to see him back in the 4-H program

as a coach and volunteer!
