• Peak Dawn Anglers specializes in no-kill low-water motorless light tackle flyfishing in tidal rivers. We catch stripers from 12 to 40 inches on short 2- to 4-wt. rods. This is “saltwater flyfishing for the trout angler” at its very best!

• The key to flyfishing saltwater rivers lies in timing and tides. We fish to a lunar rhythm, wading quietly across the flats, casting to wakes and ghosts on the sand. Every day brings sur prises. No two tides are alike. Each trip lasts seven to eight hours, centered around the ebb.

DOWNEAST WILD TROUT CAMP, Compliments of Dwayne ShawDSF is offering three nights stay for 6 or more at the Wigwams or at one of their two other trout camps. The Machias River Wigwams Rapids Camp sleeps six or more and is located in Township 25 near Mopang Stream and other notable wild trout waters. The Downeast Salmon Federation is a partner of TU and conducts extensive sea-run fisheries conservation programming in easternmost Maine. The Federation owns 3 cabins (two on the Machias River and one on the Narraguagus River). These are rustic backwoods Maine cabins with bunks and outhouses and basic accommodations. All DSF cabins are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Additional time may be scheduled at any of the cabins, available on a donation basis. The other two cabins are available as alternates to the Wigwams depending upon the size of the group and the wishes and desires of the anglers. DSF can make suggestions for fishing and other logistics and you can believe most of their stories. We have been assured by DSF (with a wink) that there are no blackflies in any of these Downeast locations and that the snow snakes are usually hibernating in the summer. • Don’t expect a pastoral or sylvan experience; this is urban fishing but you may catch all sorts of fish. The carp are the best; they’re surprisingly hard to catch, and a whole lot of fun! Give it a try. It may open new doors for you! It will certainly be something new and different that you’ve never done before!!!
