Wake Forest is 10-11 in ACC play, after being swept by No. 14 Clemson.• Wake Forest has posted an 11-12 record at home, this season.• Head Coach Tom Walter is in his ninth season at Wake Forest. Walter is one of only two active coaches in the country tohave led three diff erent programs to an NCAA Regional (Wake Forest, George Washington and New Orleans). Out on the RoadLiberty fi nishes a fi ve-game road swing on Wednesday. Liberty enters the week with a 9-10 mark on the road. The Flames have won eight of their last 13 road games. 12 of the Flames' fi rst 18 Big South Conference games have been on the road, this season.

The Flames have gone 2-2 on their current road trip. Liberty handed High Point its fi rst series loss in Big South play by taking their series, 2-1, at High Point, N.C., this past weekend.

Earlier this month, the Flames won a three-game series at Campbell for the fi rst time since the Camels rejoined the Big South in 2011, 2-1, April 6-8.

Taking Their BaseLiberty enters the weekend second in the nation with 249 bases on balls. Florida State leads the country with 263. The Flames have walked 6.6 times per game so far this season. Last season, Liberty fi nished second in the country and led the Big South with 341 walks. The Flames averaged 6.2 walks per game in 2017.

In addition, Liberty begins the week with a Big South-leading 7.2 runs per game. The Flames have scored 273 runs and rank 29th nationally.

The Flames also lead the Big South with a .396 on base percentage, which currently ranks 29th among NCAA Division I teams.

Allen Bounces BackAfter missing two seasons due to injury (2015 & 2016) and seeing limited playing time in 2017, fi rst baseman Dylan Allen has made a signifi cant impact in 2018.

Allen has started all 38 Liberty games - 36 at fi rst base and two at second base - this season and enters the weekend, hitting .267. The redshirt junior is second on the Flames in RBI (29) and third in runs scored (31). He is eighth in the Big South with a .439 on base percentage

A steadying infl uence on the infi eld, he has committed only one error in 304 chances, a .997 fi elding percentage. Allen

Todd, Artis Among National LeadersTre Todd begins the week as the national leader in bases on balls with 43, while teammate D.J. Artis is third with 41. Todd has drawn 1.18 bases on balls per game which also tops the nation. Artis, who led the nation in walks last season, is second with 1.08 bases on balls per game.

The Big South leader in on base percentage, Todd enters the week fourth nationally with a .533 OBP. In addition, the Deptford, N.J. native leads the conference in slugging percentage. He also is among the Big South leaders in batting average (second), runs scored (third), RBI (fi rst), triples (tied second), home runs (tied third) and total bases (second).

Meanwhile, D.J. Artis leads the Big South with 47 runs scored and is ninth nationally with 1.24 runs scored per game. Artis is also among the conference leaders in on base percentage (third), doubles (tied second), triples (tied second) and stolen bases (second).

Price Paces Big SouthSophomore right-hander Garret Price enters the week as the Big South leader in ERA and tied with teammate Zach Clinton for wins. The right-hander tops the conference with a 2.00 ERA and six wins. He also is second in opponent batting average, tied for third in strikeouts and is fi fth in saves.

After making 14 relief appearances, Price became Liberty's Friday starter on April 6 at Campbell and carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of a 9-1 victory. In three starts, the right-hander has allowed two runs over 20 innings, a 0.90 ERA.

On the season, Price has posted a 6-2 record in 17 appearances. He has struck out 63 and walked 16.

Todd First to 10 Since 2014Outfi elder/catcher Tre Todd became the fi rst Flame to hit 10 home runs in a season since 2014 on Sunday. Todd con-nected for his 10th in the ninth inning of Liberty's 8-3 win at High Point. Ryan Seiz was the last Liberty player to hit 10 or more home runs in a season, belting 12 in 2014.

Todd enters the week three round trippers shy of joining Liberty's top 10 single season home run leaders. Pat Sipe tops the program's list with 20 in 1998.

Artis Moves Up Program Runs Scored ListOufi elder D.J. Artis continues to climb up Liberty's career runs scored list. The junior enters the week tied for seventh on the program's list with Mark deYmaz (1981-83) with 159. Pat Sipe (1983-86) is the program's career leader with 179.

Currently, he leads the Big South with 47 runs scored. Last season, he set a career high, scoring 58 runs.

In addition, Artis enters the week fourth all-time with 65 career stolen bases. He already is the program's all-time base on balls leader with 155. Artis



Liberty Month-by-Month

On This Date in Program HistoryTyler Bream drove in six runs and Liberty pitchers held Gardner-Webb hitters in check throughout the contest, as the Flames downed the Bulldogs, 10-2, on this date in Big South baseball action at Masters Field in 2009.

Tyler Bream, who was 4-for-4 in the contest, ripped a pair of two-out, two-run base hits in fi rst and the third innings. In the fi rst, the Liberty third baseman singled and in the third, he doubled. He drove in his fi nal two runs in the ninth with a single.

Liberty starter Shawn Teufel won his sixth consecutive start, running his record to 7-1 on the year. The left-hander gave up one run, while scattering six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Carter Browning pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning, recording two outs. Andrew Wilson came on in the eighth inning to also end a bases loaded Bulldog threat. The trio of hurlers stranded 12 Gardner-Webb runners and blanked Bulldog hitters with runners in scoring position, as the Flames' hosts went 0-12 with men on second or third base through the fi rst eight innings.

Liberty has had 64 players chosen in the Major League Baseball Draft in the 44-year history of its program. The Flames have had at least one player chosen every year since 2000.

In addition, two program alumnus are in the professional coaching ranks. Currently, Tony Beasley ('89) serves as the third base coach for the Texas Rangers, while Matt Hagen ('02) will manage the Rangers' Single A affi late, the Hickory Crawdads, this summer.

Liberty to Host Big South Baseball ChampionshipThe Big South Conference has announced that the Liberty Baseball Stadium will host the conference's 2018 Baseball Championship. The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will be played on-campus at the 2,500-seat Liberty Baseball Stadium, May 22-26, with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. This will be the second time the ballpark will host the Big South Baseball Championship, as the fi rst was during the facility's inaugural season of 2013. That year, Liberty won the title as the No. 5 seed to mark the fi rst time in 21 years that the tournament's host won the crown.

The 2018 Big South Baseball Championship will have 10 games over its fi rst three days, May 22-24, with live televi-sion coverage on the Big South Network. Game broadcasts for May 25 (anywhere from 2-4 games as needed) will be shown on ESPN3. The "Winner-Take-All" Championship Game on the fi nal day, May 26 will air on one of the ESPN platforms.

Liberty Picked 2nd in Preseason PollLiberty has been picked to fi nish second in the conference standings in the 2018 Big South Preseason Poll by the league's head coaches. Liberty received 81 points in being picked to fi nish the league's regular season in second place behind conference favorite Winthrop. The Flames also garnered two of the 10 fi rst place votes.

Meanwhile, Liberty outfi elder D.J. Artis was tabbed the Preseason Big South Player of the Year, while Winthrop right hander Nate Pawelczyk was named the Big South Pitcher of the Year.

C Getting the call behind the plate, Tre Todd collected a career-high six RBI and four runs scored, while tying a career-high with four hits, Friday night at High Point. The Liberty catcher belted his ninth home run of the year in the Liberty victory.

1B Dylan Allen enters the week eighth in the Big South with a .439 on base percentage. He posted his sixth multi-RBI game of the year at Virginia, last Wednesday.

2B Trey McDyre has started 28 of Liberty's 38 games at second, this season.

3BTyler Galazin has posted four three-hit games in his last seven games. The junior has hit .483 over the span. Galazin collected three hits in Liberty's 8-3 win over High Point, Sunday, including his third home run of the season and a double. The third baseman drove in a career-high four runs and scored twice in the contest.

SS Cam Locklear leads the Flames with 13 two-out RBI.

CF D.J. Artis has reached base safely in every game this season. He leads the Flames with 12 doubles.

RF Brady Heid received his fi rst start at Liberty in Liberty's 8-3 win over High Point on Sunday. The Flames have had four diff erent players start in right fi eld this season.

Artis Named to Preseason Golden Spikes ListLiberty outfi elder D.J. Artis was one of 55 players listed on the 2018 Golden Spikes Award watch list. The list, which was announced by USA Baseball, begins the process of identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country for 2018. The 41st Golden Spikes Award will be presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation on June 28 in Los Angeles, Calif.

Considered one of the most dynamic leadoff hitters in collegiate baseball, Artis was previous-ly selected to two preseason All-America teams for 2018. The outfi elder was named to both D1baseball.com and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) teams. In ad-dition, he was selected the Big South Conference Preseason Player of the Year by the league's coaches.

Artis was named to three All-America teams following a stellar sophomore season in 2017. The outfi elder garnered se-lections to the D1baseball.com All-America second team and the Baseball America and NCBWA All-America third teams.

The 2017 Big South Player of the Year, Artis, who also earned all-conference fi rst team honors for the second consecu-tive season, fi nished the year second in the nation with a .532 on base percentage and as the national leader in walks with 62. Artis' base on balls total eclipsed his own single-season program record of 52 walks, which he set in 2016. In addition, he led the Big South Conference with a .359 batting average and 58 runs scored, while fi nishing second with 23 stolen bases.

Artis, who patrolled center fi eld for the Flames, also completed 2017 among the conference leaders in hits (ninth - 65), RBI (ninth - 45) and slugging percentage (third - .552). He collected 13 doubles, two triples and six home runs.

Logan Mathieu has hit .317 since taking over the designated hitter duties in a 4-3 win at Virginia Tech on March 27. In addition, he has driven in a team-high 17 runs during the span of 16 games.

P RHP Garret Price has won all three of his starts since becoming a starter on April 8. Price has a 3-0 record with a 0.90 ERA over 20 innings as a starter.

RPRelief pitcher Jackson Bertsch entered Sunday's contest at High Point with two on and two out in the third inning and went on to hold the Panthers in check over the fi nal 6 1/3 innings to run his record to 3-2 on the year. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits during his relief stint. He struck out six and walked two.

Scott Jackson was named the seventh head coach of Liberty's baseball program on July 17, 2016. No stranger to Liberty, having served as the Flames’ pitch-ing coach in 2008, Jackson led the Flames to a 32-23 record in his fi rst season and a second place fi nish in the Big South regular season standings with a 16-8 mark in 2017. Following the season, Jackson saw outfi elder D.J. Artis named the 2017 Big South Player of the Year and earn selection to three diff erent All-American teams: Baseball America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers and D1Base-ball.com. In addition, he saw pitcher Caleb Evans drafted in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft by the Oakland A’s. Paced by Artis, who led the nation in walks and fi nished second in on base percentage, the Flames led the Big South in runs scored and on base percentage. On the mound, the Liberty pitching staff allowed the fewest runs in the conference. During his one season with the Flames in 2008 as their pitching coach, Jackson helped Liberty post a 35-26-1 record and a 14-7 mark in Big South play. Liberty was the No. 2 seed at the 2008 Big South Baseball Championship and advanced to the event's title game. Following the 2008 season, two of Jackson's pupils were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. Left-hander Ryan Page was selected in the 20th round by the Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander David Stokes was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the 28th round. During his eight seasons in Chapel Hill, N.C., Jackson helped North Carolina post a 345-156 record, make three College World Series appearances (2009, 2011 and 2013), advance to six-straight NCAA Regionals (2009-14) and win the 2013 ACC Championship. Prior the 2013 season, Jackson was recognized by Baseball America as one of the top assistant coaches in the country. During the Tar Heels' run to the 2011 College World Series, North Carolina had one of its top scoring seasons in school history. The Tar Heels fi nished the year ranked No. 10 in the country with 452 runs score. Jackson's batters proved to be patient hitters, fi nishing the year ranked No. 2 in the country in walks (358). North Carolina had continued success at the plate during the 2012 season, fi nishing the year ranked No. 4 in the nation in walks (304). The following season, the Tar Heels led the country in hits (759), runs (542) and walks (369). After joining the coaching staff at North Carolina in 2009, Jackson helped the Tar Heels have 44 players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.

North Carolina's top off ensive selection in 2016 was out-fi elder Tyler Ramirez, who was a seventh-round selection by the Oakland Athletics. Jackson worked with freshman All-America second base-man Levi Michael who was the 30th overall selection in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. Third baseman Colin Moran came to North Carolina as an unheralded recruit but developed into one of the top hitters in the country as he earned All-America honors and was named the Baseball America Freshman of the Year in 2011. As a junior, Moran was a fi nalist for the Golden Spikes Award, led the nation with 91 RBIs and was the No. 6 overall pick of the Miami Marlins in the 2013 MLB Draft. Jackson helped coach three-time All-American Dustin Ackley to Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year honors and also mentored all-conference selection Kyle Seager. Both Ackley and Seager were selected in the top three rounds of the 2009 MLB Draft, and Seager was both an AL All-Star and UNC's fi rst Gold Glove winner in 2014. Jackson's eff orts on the recruiting trail also paid off for the Tar Heels, as the program has consistently signed classes that rank among the nation's best. The 2010 group of newcomers ranked No. 7 nationally, the 2011 class was ranked No. 6, the 2012 crop was ranked No. 4, the 2013 edition was ranked No. 5, the incoming class of 2014 was ranked No. 1 and the 2015 edition was ranked No. 5. Prior to his single season at Liberty, Jackson served fi ve seasons on staff at UNC Wilmington as pitching coach (2003-07). The Seahawks posted a three-consecutive win-ning seasons and captured the Colonial Athletic Association titles in 2004 and 2006. UNC Wilmington also advanced to NCAA Regional play in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Under Jackson's tutelage, six Seahawk pitchers were selected in the MLB Draft after going undrafted out of high school. His pitching staff established a number of school records at Wilmington, including strikeouts and saves. Jackson also had coaching stints at Campbell (2002), Barton (2001) and Woff ord (2000). In addition to his colle-giate work, Jackson led the Wilmington Sharks to a league-best 31-17 mark in 2002 as head coach and coached fi ve MLB draft picks. Jackson is a 1998 graduate of Campbell with a bachelor's degree in physical education and he earned a master's degree in education in 2000, also from Campbell. During his playing days with the Camels, he played seven diff erent positions and posted a career .268 batting average in 182 games. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Jackson is married to the former Sara Moore, who was a standout basketball player at Campbell. The couple has two sons, Ryan and Tyler.
