2017 Industry Awards Categories and Criteria The Northern Territory Seafood Industry Awards recognise outstanding achievements in the following award categories: Business Award (Small) Business Award (Large) Environment Award People Development Award Primary Producer Award Promotion Award Research, Development and Extension Award Restaurant Award Safety Award Take-away Fish & Chips Award Young Achiever Award Industry Ambassador Award NT sponsored winners will go on to represent the Northern Territory in the Australian Seafood Industry Awards to be held on 28 September, 2017 in the Sydney. Eligibility To enter these awards nominees must: • Have a business based in the Northern Territory • Only nominate for one category in any one year • Meet the appropriate category criteria Judging Finalists and winners are selected in accordance with the principles of equal opportunity. The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be appealed. The judges are from outside the seafood industry and nominees will be assessed from the written information provided on the nomination form. Winners will be announced at the Industry Awards Dinner, being held at Pee Wees on the Point. Presented to a seafood business employing less than the equivalent of ten full time staff in any segment of the supply chain that has demonstrated business growth, innovation, excellence in product, service and marketing, and that has contributed substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry.

Judging Criteria: The business:• has achieved sustained growth (2) • continually improves the delivery and marketing of its products and services to its customers (3)• produces products and services that consistently meet customer expectations (3)• contributes substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry. (2)

BUSINESS AWARD (LARGE)

Presented to a seafood business employing the equivalent of ten or more full time staff equivalent involved in any segment of the supply chain that has demonstrated business growth, innovation, excellence in product, services and marketing, and that has contributed substantially towards a positive publis profile for the seafood industry.

ENVIRONMENT AWARD

Presented to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in developing and undertaking an environmental activity that has contributed substantially towards protecting or rehabilitating aquatic environments, or reducing adverse seafood industry impacts on the environment.

Judging Criteria: The activity:• addressed a high priority for the seafood industry (2) • was end-user driven and produced outcomes that contributed towards protecting or rehabilitating aquatic environments, or reducing adverse seafood industry impacts on the environment (3)• was challenging, required high levels of innovation, and direct action and/or extension to achieve the planned outcome.(2)• involved other users of the environment. (2)

PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT AWARD

Presented to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in developing and undertaking a people development activity that has contributed substantially towards a higher performing workforce for the seafood industry.

Judging Criteria: The activity:• addressed a high priority for the seafood industry (2) • resulted in more people with higher qualifications or skills to work in the seafood industry (3)• employed innovative ways to develop seafood industry people (2)• employed innovative ways to attract and/or retain seafood industry people (2)• was supported by planning, reviewing and continual improvement processes (Where the activity involved formal vocational training, it complied with the National Seafood Industry Training Package). (1)

PRIMARY PRODUCER AWARD

Presented to a seafood primary producer that has demonstrated excellence in the sustainable production of quality seafood through innovation in fishing or aquaculture practices, and that has contributed substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry.

Judging Criteria: The producer:• continually demonstrates innovative ways of improving production practices (3)• producers products that consistently meet customer expectations (3)• continually improves the delivery and marketing of its products to its customers (2) • contributes substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry. (2)

PROMOTION AWARD

Presented to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in developing and undertaking a promotion activity that has contributed substantially towards improving the public profile of seafood and/or the seafood industry. Describe the nominee’s history

Judging Criteria: The activity:• addressed a high priority for the seafood industry (2)• was end-user driven and produced outcomes that contributed towards improving the public profile of seafood and/or the seafood industry (3)• was challenging, required high levels of innovation and direct action to achieve the planned outcome. RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT and EXTENSION AWARD

Presented to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in developing and undertaking a research, development and extension activity that has contributed substantially towards a sustainable and profitable seafood industry.

Judging Criteria: The activity:• addressed a high priority for the seafood industry (2)• was end-user driven, and produced outcomes that contributed towards the sustainability and profitability of the seafood industry (3)• was challenging, involved technical risk, and required systematic investigation and high levels of innovation to achieve the planned outcome. (2)

RESTAURANT AWARD

Presented to a restaurant that has demonstrated excellence in consistently serving customers with quality seafood, and providing them with an overall positive seafood dining experience.

Judging Criteria: The restaurant :• consistently meets customer expectations for service (3)• serves seafood meals that include Australian seafood (2)• complies with the Australian Standard for Fish Names and, preferably, provenance labelling (3)• provides consumers with accurate information about the seafood components of the meals (2)• provides an ambience that compliments the seafood meals in providing customers with an overall positive seafood dining experience (1)• serves seafood meals that taste good. (1)

SAFETY AWARD

Presented to an entity that has demonstrated excellence in developing and maintaining a culture of safety that has contributed substantially towards improving the safety record of the seafood industry.

Judging Criteria: The activity:• addressed high priority safety area or risk (3) • was end-user driven, and produced outcomes that contributed towards the safety record of the seafood industry (3)

TAKE-AWAY FISH & CHIPS AWARD

Presented to a casual food outlet that has demonstrated excellence in consistently providing customers with quality seafood.

Judging Criteria: • consistently meets customer expectations for service (3)• serves seafood meals that include Australian seafood (2)• complies with the Australian Standard for Fish Names and, preferably, provenance labelling (3)• provides consumers with accurate information about the seafood (2)• contributes substantially towards a positive public profile for the seafood industry.(2)• serves seafood meals that taste good. (1)

YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD

Presented to a person, under 35 years of age, who has demonstrated that he or she has made a positive difference to the seafood industry, and has the potential to continue to develop as an effective and respected seafood industry leader.

Judging Criteria: The person:• has made a positive difference to the seafood industry (3)• is committed to effect positive changes through leadership and innovation (3)• is respected by industry colleagues. (3)

INDUSTRY AMBASSADOR AWARD

Presented to a person who has demonstrated that he or she has made a substantial positive difference to the seafood industry over many years, and who has been a highly effective and respected seafood industry leader.

Judging Criteria: The person:• has made a substantial and sustained positive difference to the seafood industry (3) • has effected positive change through leadership and innovation (3)• is highly respected by industry colleagues. (3)

• Nominated an award category• Completed all details on the entry form• Signed the entry form• Read and understood the category description and criteria to be assessed• Provided supporting evidence and detailed responses to the nominated category• Provided a minimum of 6 photos

Conditions of Entry

To enter the 2017 NT Seafood Industry Awards you must agree to the following conditions of entry:

• The closing date for applications is 16 June. No application will be accepted after 4.00pm• All nominees must complete an application form and address all written criteria as outlined in the Award Categories document. Application forms are available from reception at NT Seafood Council or online• A panel of judges will score each written application in order to prepare a short list• Judges will interview the short-listed nominees in Darwin. The interview will also be scored. Based on the total scores from the written nomination and the interview, the judge will select finalists and winner in each category• Nominees can only enter one category in the year.• All finalists are expected to attend the presentation dinner• The decisions of the judging panel are final and not appealable• All applicants will be advised in writing of the judging outcomes• Only authorised Award Organisers and Judges have access to applicant information and some or all of this information may be given to sponsors and media. Your personal information will not be disclosed to any other third party without your consent, unless authorised or required by law• Finalists and winners must agree for their photographs and details to be used in promotion of the NT Seafood Awards• Finalists and winners must be prepared to be involved in promotional events and activities.
