Dear Participants,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 CWL In-House Counsel Network Puzzle Program Retreat at the Four Seasons Hotel, Westlake Village. In our 2nd year of this program, we extended our reach to include our fellow sisters in Southern California. We are excited to include them as an essential piece to this Puzzle. This program has drawn some of California’s brightest in-house talent, including some of the most savvy and influential women in the law.

The Retreat is the culmination of the Puzzle Program sessions coming together for an exclusive gathering to share respective conclusions, reflections and best practices. Above all else, our goal is to build meaningful relationships with women who inspire, persevere, and define the meaning of true grit.

Participants took on intuitive topics such as: (1) the Journey into the Board Room; (2) how do in-house counsel measure their value at work & how to get ahead; and (3) the effect of controversies that affected companies and its employees this year (i.e. the “Google Memo” and the Charlottesville Rally). We want to continue these conversations, and we also want everyone to think about their own power of influence. Jessica Notini’s discussion on leveraging your influence will be an insightful opportunity to be a part of the narrative and explore how your influence applies in everyday lives.

SESSION 1: Understanding Leverage and the Psychology of Influence; Improving Your Persuasive Skills and

Increasing Collaboration Around You

Jessica Notini of Notini Mediation Services will discuss leveraging influence. We all engage in efforts to persuade others to cooperate with us and are on the receiving end of others’ attempts to persuade us every day. This session will introduce you to different types of leverage and the power of persuasion so that you can choose and respond to influencing strategies more consciously and effectively. You’ll learn to identify and shift between interests, rights and power conversations and select influencing strategies appropriate to the moment and the person you wish to persuade. We will also examine the powerful psychological forces behind most influencing strategies to deepen your understanding of how and why they work.

Jessica Notini is a professional trainer, mediator, negotiation coach and facilitator practicing in California and internationally.

As a trainer, Ms. Notini has developed and led many national and international workshops for both private entities and public institutions in the areas of negotiation, mediation, facilitation, communication and a wide variety of related topics. In California, Jessica works as an Adjunct Professor for Stanford,

Boalt and Hastings law schools and the Mills women’s business school. She also trains in her capacity as a Senior Consultant with

Accordence, Integrated Management Associates and Lax & Sebenius Negotiation groups. She is principal of Notini Mediation, Facilitation

& Training Services and mediates a wide variety of cases, with an emphasis in probate & estate, conservatorship and employment matters. She is past Chair of the California State Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and past President of the Northern California Mediation Association. She received the 2012 Don Weckstein Memorial Award from the California Dispute Resolution Council for her leadership in the field of alternative dispute resolution. Her J.D. is from the University of Michigan, with honors of magna cum laude and the Order of the Coif.

What time is check in?Check in is available at 3 pm. However, in order to beat the “rush hour” registration period, we recommend that you check in with the hotel first to see if they have a room ready for you so that you can drop off your bags. We’ve found it to be less stressful and allows participants more time to enjoy the program and the surrounding amenities.

What time is check out?Check-out is at 12 pm. You may request late check-out, however availability may be limited.

What is the dress code?The dinner on Friday, October 13, 2017 will be cocktail attire. All other events will be casual (i.e., jeans, athleisure, maxi dresses, etc.). What is the parking situation?Overnight Parking: Self - $23.00/day, Valet - $33.00/day

Will there be WiFi available?Yes. Complimentary WiFi will be available in all guest rooms and business rooms.

How do I pay for my hotel?If you have pre-registered, your reservation has been given to the hotel and you will need to provide a form of payment to the hotel upon check-in. Participants will be billed directly by the hotel for their stay including any incidentals you may incur, unless otherwise arranged by CWL-IHCN.
