programs open doors and transform lives.

They provide job-specifi c licences, build

competency in professional skills, and

contribute to degrees with internationally

recognised universities.

They help newcomers to Australia learn

English and people in remote locations

access training critical to employment

and business productivity.

They encourage people to develop

interests in fi elds such as cooking, fi tness

and computer skills, which contribute to

positive social outcomes and in many

cases new career opportunities.

Whether you hope to develop skills to

enter the workforce, qualify for professional

opportunities or pursue different goals,

TAFE SA offers Vocational Education and

Training (VET) programs to help.

We work closely with employers and

industry groups to develop our VET

programs, ensuring they provide our

they need to be valuable members of

the workforce – from day one. We seek

and adopt the latest innovative training

methods, such as mobile classrooms and

simulation facilities, to prepare students

to contribute to employers’ goals in real-

world work environments.

In addition to our VET programs, an

increasing number of short courses –

illustration to furniture making to fi nancial

markets – enhance knowledge and skills in

areas of personal or professional interest.

This Course Guide refl ects the many

changes we’re making at TAFE SA after

statewide consultation about the training

delivered. The changes won’t stop here,

however; as always, we will be fl exible in

adapting our training to ensure it meets

your needs and the needs of employers

in your communities, and so contribute to

industry development and regional growth.

At TAFE SA, we encourage you to

I hope you will fi nd in this guide a course

that meets your needs, so that you’re soon

WE WILL HELP YOU REACH YOUR STUDY AND CAREER GOALS

Flexible study options

We understand that full-time study doesn’t

suit everyone. We offer part-time, classroom,

online and external study options, all with the

support of our expert lecturers.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Your current skills and previous skills can

earn you credit. RPL means you won’t have

to re-learn the course units that cover skills

you already have. We take into account

life experiences, work, formal and informal

training and previous education. It means

you may be able to graduate with a TAFE SA

qualifi cation sooner than you think.

University pathways

Use your TAFE SA qualifi cation at Certifi cate

IV level or higher to apply for entry into

most South Australian university programs.

TAFE SA has extensive partnerships with

the State’s universities, with 63 dual offer

courses that guarantee you a place at

university upon completion of your

TAFE SA courses.

For most Certifi cate I, II and III courses there

are no admission requirements.

For Certifi cate IV, Diploma, Advanced

Diploma and Degree courses, there are

minimal Course Admission Requirements.

Some courses have more people apply than

there are places available. In these cases,

eligible applicants will be ranked according

to their previous educational results. Some

courses may also require you to submit a

portfolio or written assessment, or to attend

an audition as part of the selection process.

Requirements may also differ from location

to location depending on the number of

training places available.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply visit tafesa.edu.au/courses,

fi nd your course and click apply now.

Many courses have a continuous intake

and enable you to apply online at any time.

Offers to these courses are made throughout

the year. Other courses have two intakes a

year – at the beginning and mid-year – and

have set opening dates and offer dates.

Applying is free.

WHERE YOU WILL STUDY

You may study at a TAFE SA location

in your region, online, at school, in your

workplace, in the fi eld or at state-of-the-

art training facilities such as Tonsley, the

Adelaide College of the Arts or the Mining,

Engineering and Transport Centre. We are

increasing our presence across the State,

delivering training in new sites and ensuring

people can access the training they need

regardless of physical location.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

The cost of a course depends on the

number of hours of training, the type of study

involved and whether or not the government

provides funding for the course.

Study now, pay later

TAFE SA is an approved VET FEE-HELP

loan provider for Diploma and Advanced

Diploma courses, so you can study now

and pay later.

tafesa.edu.au/vetfeehelp

Subsidised training

We offer a range of subsidised qualifi cations

to ensure our State has a skilled, capable

completing a course, or essential items

that you can buy elsewhere.

Fee concessions

You may be eligible for a fee concession,

to enrol in individual units of competency

from an award course without having to

complete the full course.

you to apply for a TAFE SA qualifi cation

and a connected university program at

the same time.

You will gain guaranteed entry with credit

into the university degree upon successful

completion of the TAFE SA qualifi cation.

This will give you vocational and academic

qualifi cations, setting you apart from

other graduates.

TAFE SA has more than 60 dual offer

courses in partnership with the South

Australian public universities.

CREDIT TRANSFER

Credit transfer is a way for your TAFE SA

qualifi cation to be recognised at university

We work closely with universities to create

clear credit pathways, so you can easily

APPRENTICESHIPS

Employers who choose TAFE SA for

training are giving their apprentices

and trainees a strong foundation of

practical skills and knowledge that will

be of lasting benefi t to their business.

For the student, an apprenticeship

or traineeship is an opportunity to

receive structured training and gain

a nationally recognised qualifi cation

while undertaking paid employment.

Apprenticeships and traineeships are

available in a wide range of industries and

are open to people of any age. Training is

usually conducted both in the workplace

and at TAFE SA.

Apprenticeships traditionally focus on trade-

related areas such as automotive, building,

construction, hairdressing and plumbing,

and are usually completed in four years.

Traineeships are similar to apprenticeships

and are also offered in a wide range of

declared vocations but generally are

completed in one or two years. However,

traineeships and apprenticeships can be

completed once all the competencies have

been achieved.

tafesa.edu.au/apprenticeships

AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL-BASED APPRENTICESHIP

A school-based apprenticeship or

traineeship is not that different from a regular

apprenticeship or traineeship except that you

attend school while continuing your training.

As a school-based apprentice or trainee, you

will have an employer who will employ and

train you on the job, plus you will do some

formal off-the-job training with TAFE SA.

You will attend school part of the week, go

to work on some days and attend TAFE SA

on other days.

Enrolling in a school-based apprenticeship

or traineeship has benefi ts including:

> your training will contribute towards your

SACE (or equivalent)

> you will start your chosen career or trade

while you’re still at school

> you will earn money while you learn

> you will gain experience in the trade or

vocation of your choice

> your school-based training will convert

to full-time or part-time when you

leave school.
