Hope everyone is enjoying the summer weather now that it has finally arrived. We had our Specialty Show on July 15th, thanks to those who helped and attended. As I write this I am looking forward to our upcoming events our Versatility Day August 5th and then a busy September with the Walking Field Trail September 2&3rd, Hunt Test September 9&10 and Horseback Field Trial September 30& October 1. We will be asking and need-ing your support for all these events so PLEASE mark your calendars and do what you can. I am real glad to see the return of a Walking Field Trial, our club has not had one in years so a big thank you to Gale and Cheryl Graves for taking this on. We continue to work on improving our Web page, anyone who would like to share infor-mation or pictures please contact Ann Weslow. Breeders please read in this newsletter the bit about getting new puppy owners into the club with a free membership.

Submitted by Sher Meinke Hunt Test Fall Hunt Test September 9 & 10 it’s a dual with Oak Ridge Pointing Dog Club in Harris-ville Pa. Premium is on the webpage, www.gspcofohio.org. Entries are starting to come in, ex-cited to have a judge coming from Kentucky who has a lot of expierence and a very inter-esting back ground. We could use donations of food and help for this event. The Hunt Test are growing in en-tries and success. Please help your club to keep all our events a success. Membership News Members with Litters – Selling puppies Those of you who have had or are having litters and selling pups please take note. Most of you should know that our club has been offering a year free membership to any-one buying a puppy from a club member. As such please complete a membership form for them and have the new puppy owner sign the form when they pick up their puppy. You could then forward the completed forms to Sherry our membership secretary. This not only increases our membership but provides new owners with club information on events and club member contacts as well as interesting information from the club news-letter. This one way you can all help increase of membership and hopefully get new own-ers interested in not only owning a GSP but doing events and getting involved in the club.

ABOUT OUR MEMBERSHIP - FORMER MEMBER PAM KENNEDY

By Eileen Smith

I recently had the opportunity of touching base with Pam Kennedy, whose involvement in the GSPCO was synonymous with the GSP Care of Ohio. Pam is celebrating 25 years of volunteer service which began in 1992 when the club’s President Ron Yosper asked Pam if she would be interested in chairing this program. Pam and this rescue group has found foster and fur-ever homes for over 500 GSPs. While no longer an active member of our club, she still reaches out to many of our members

looking for advice, kennel space and networking. We ap-plaud Pam for her hard work and dedication. The difference between a shelter and rescue groups lies within its funding. Shelters are usually government-supported agencies while rescue groups rely on do-nations and most of its staff are volunteers. Both groups rely heavily on donations and providing foster homes to animals. According to Pam, foster

homes are in a great demand. Anyone interested in making a donation or would be willing to foster an ani-mal, contact Pam Kennedy at 330.626.4234.

A high-powered rifle shot rings out in California’s early morning stillness launching Roger and Suzanne into another suspenseful mystery thriller. In a complex who-dunit set against a backdrop of pointing dogs and canine hunt tests, private detec-tive Roger Bowman has to solve a murder case with no clues, no suspects, and no apparent motive. There’s lots of action as the dogs hunt for birds while the humans hunt for a cold-blooded killer.

Walking Field Trial — September 2-3

Submitted by Eileen Smith

Looking for an easy, enjoyable read? Jerold Last, author of Hunter Down, has donated a signed copy of his book to be part of the raffle at the Walking Field Trial on September 2-3, 2017. Jerry is a Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California and a two-time winner of the Indie Book of the Day Award. He is no stranger to the German Shorthair Pointer breed as his wife Elaine breeds prize-winning GSPs (conformation and hunt tests).

Hunter Down by Jerold Last

Submitted by Gale and Cheryl Graves Come join us as we kick off the Fall field trial season with our 2 day walking trial this coming Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday September 2nd and 3rd. The trial will be held at the Oakridge Pointing Dog grounds in Harrisville PA.

Come out for the day or spend Friday and Saturday. The grounds allow for dry camping as no water or electric hookups are available. Although water is available for dogs and horses. There are area hotels/motels available, please see the list on our website gspco-fohio.org under events info.

Following Saturday's events we will gather for social/happy hour followed by a catered dinner, cost is $10.00 pp. Our club members are known for their wonderful cooking skills so please feel free to bring an appetizer or dessert to share.

After dinner we will have a raffle to help offset expenses incurred for this weekend so donations of raffle items would be much appreciated. Breakfast and lunch will also be available Saturday and Sunday. If your interested in participating or can help out with food/raffle items please contact: Cheryl Graves 330-357-9392 or Gale Graves 440-821-0934.

We look forward to seeing new faces and familiar ones!

Buckeye GSP Fall Field trial Oct 7th and 8th

Submitted by Scott Weslow Judges have been confirmed. Wrangler will be available. Steak Fry at the new Cabin at the bottom of the hill, for the Judges dinner on Saturday nite. Hopefully Dennis Baker will bring his guitar. General Bird dog note. The Tri-Valley mowing will be done August 8th and 9th. A total of 5 tractors will be working 16 hours each. 2 are provided by the State and 3 have been provided / loaned by the ABDCO with 3 volun-teer’s providing the mowing. A big shout out for a couple folks. Chris Goegan for providing his Semi and Gooseneck trailer, to haul Denny Keeton’s Tractor to Tri-Valley and back. Also George Kusuma for providing himself and his monster tractor. And Ray Wheeler for orga-nizing the rented tractor and his labor. So when you see them thank them for their ef-forts and donations, of time money and equip-ment. Thanks to all Scott Weslow — Clean Up /Work Party at Tri Valley
