District Programs are open to all Birmingham City School (BCS) students within the designated grade span. Local Program sites are only open to BCS students enrolled in that particular school.
Introduction: Birmingham City Schools offers its students many opportunities for enrichment and acceleration during the summer months. Offerings for students include
promotional programs, advanced placement preparatory programs, laboratory based science programs, recreational programs, special needs programs, grade level and
home-to-school bridge programs, ESL/ELL, and many more. Please contact the various departments for additional information.

Registration: June 1 Teacher Professional Development 7:45 am 3:15 pm (½ orientation, ½ summer school site) June 2 All students (No registration after June 5) Tuition is due upon registration. June 5 July 6 (Four Days A Week) Time: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (Elementary, K-8 & Middle School Students) Teachers, 7:45 am-1:15 pm 7:30 am – 3:00 pm (High School Students) Teachers, 7:15 am-3:15 pm Tuition: $125.00 – 0.5 credit $250.00 – 1.0 credit (High Schools) $150.00 – (Elementary, K-8 & Middle Schools) $125 or $250.00 – Credit Recovery Courses (High Schools) Audience: Only students enrolled in Birmingham City Schools 2016-17 All summer programs will meet Monday through Thursday. Middle students will engage in hands-on learning activities in writing, social sciences, and math. Mathematics – use creativity in problem-based projects, games, manipulatives, and technology, while developing key academic skills, knowledge and enhance critical thinking skills Social Sciences – read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from given situations; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions; analyze, evaluate, and differentiate primary and secondary sources. Writing – extended practice in preparing content, organization, structure, and presentation of papers in three subgenres: reflective narrative, information/expository, and argumentative writing. Opportunities to read, listen to, annotate, and discuss published models; Socratic Circle strategy will be used for editing before final presentations; ACT Writing rubrics will be used to assess the quality of students’ papers, and technology is required to complete final presentation/project for the summer.
