Media Enquiry – Linear Park The following enquiry was received from journalist Erica Visser from The Messenger in regards to Linear Park. CEO, Kiki Magro provided the below response.

I assume that the report you are referring to is the River Torrens Linear Park Integrated Strategic Asset Management Plan. My responses are therefore based on that assumption and provided below:

- What's councils thoughts on the $16m revamp?

The River Torrens Linear Park Integrated Strategic Asset Management Plan was presented to Council for their information on 17 April 2017. In doing so, Council noted that the plan will be used to promote, to the State Government, a co-ordinated approach to works and funding for renewals and up-grades for this important State asset. Council also noted that relevant aspects (as they specifically apply to the Walkerville Council area) may be incorporated into its own Long Term Asset Management Plans (funding permitting).

- The report suggests cyclists and pedestrians should be separated along busy sections of Linear Park. Would you support this idea?

Whilst Council does not have a formal position on this matter, it supports design solutions that will provide a safe outcome for path users

- The report says councils should install more public lighting along the path. Is this something Walkerville council would consider investing in?

As part of Councils draft budget for 2017/18, an expenditure of $182,210 has been allocated for Phase 1 of a proposed three Phase program to up-grade lighting within its section of Linear Park.

Open for Consultation – Representation Review The following notice was published in the Messenger on Wednesday 10 May 2017 regarding proposed Elector Representation for the Town of Walkerville

Feedback is invited between Tuesday 9 May – Friday 2 June 2017.

Gilberton Swing Bridge Update

As residents may be aware, the refurbishment of the swing bridge is a joint project between the Town of Walkerville and the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters (NPSP).

NPSP are entirely responsible for project management and delivery of the refurbished bridge. Unfortunately they have experienced a number of delays during the development approval process which neither Council has control over, which has further delayed the proposed work.

Town of Walkerville resolved at its ordinary meeting (on 15 May 2017) to develop a communication strategy in collaboration with NPSP, to ensure the community is fully informed in relation to construction timing.

It is expected that a revised construction date will be known in the coming weeks at which point Council will provide a further update to the community.

‘Books for Lesotho’

The library donated five boxes of children’s books that will promote reading and education to schools in South Africa

The purpose of the project is to help develop children’s ability to spell and use correct grammar, to widen their vocabularies and to increase their confidence in English.

While English is used in all subject areas in school, reading for pleasure is not an African custom. Learning to read, and in English, is absolutely important for the future of schooling in Lesotho.

Lucky Leo joins in for Story Time 14 Children had a nice little surprise at this week’s ‘Kitten’ themed ‘Story Time’ at the Walkerville Library.

Leo is a ‘Rescue Cat’. He and his sibling were found by 2 workmen under the rubble of a building demolition site, and immediately found loving homes in the arms of their rescuers.

During Story Time, little Leo was gently rushed upon by a gushing throng of surprised little faces. Everyone had a pat and a play and Leo being the star of the show played like a trooper.

After a fun morning, reading books on kittens and making a beaded kitten toy, one by one they all went home for a snack and a nap, Leo too.

The Town of Walkerville Library Story Time is every Friday morning at 10.30am during the school term. Suitable for pre-school ages.
