SAILING AT LMYC

Saturday Pointscore Series Saturday afternoon racing commences in the first week in September and concludes approximately Easter. Other Pointscore series may be added at the discretion of the Sailing Committee.

International Etchells Class racing The International Etchells class boats race in a separate Division on Saturdays between the first week in September and approximately Easter.

LMYC Offshore Pointscore A number of offshore races are conducted between September and April generally to Pittwater, Newcastle and Port Stephens. They are daytime races to a destination on a Saturday and returning on Sunday. A combined offshore Pointscore series is also run in conjunction with Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.

Wednesday Racing Racing is conducted on Wednesday afternoons all year round and is for non-spinnaker boats. Both Sweepstake and Pointscore results are conducted. These races are generally handicap starts. Monthly scratch starts, on the first Wednesday of the month, are used during daylight savings.

Friday Twilight Racing Generally, in line with daylight saving time, twilight races are conducted late on Friday afternoons. Friday afternoon is a great day to try an evening of sailing with friends and family.

Lady Skipper Pointscore The Friday Twilight series also includes a Pointscore for Lady Skippers on the nominated races in the Friday Twilight Program. The Winter Series During Winter, starting on the third Sunday in May, racing is conducted over an 11 race series. The racing is both for non-spinnaker and spinnaker boats. A Sweepstake race is conducted for non-spinnaker and spinnaker boats. Additionally, a Pointscore series is conducted conjointly for the non-spinnaker boats. Long Lake Races A number of longer courses being sweepstake format have been programmed usually scheduled when Ocean races are programed to provide sailing on non Pointscore Saturdays.

RISK WARNING

This RISK WARNING is issued jointly by the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club (LMYC) and Roads and Maritime Services, pursuant to the Civil Liability Act 2002 to all persons wishing to participate in the sailing activities conducted by LMYC.

Participants are warned that, regardless of the precautions which might be taken by reasonable and experienced persons, sailing can be a dangerous pursuit and participants are exposed to significant risk of property damage, physical harm and possibly death.

As an indication, these risks may include, but are not limited to:

• The extremes of weather and sea conditions.

• The potential that control of vessels may be lost, resulting in collision with

objects and other vessels.

• The sudden movement of the vessel at any time and the possibility that

participants may fall or be thrown overboard, resulting in drowning.

• The possibility that participants may be injured by equipment on the vessel.

• The absence of immediate medical care and the likelihood that

significant delays may occur before medical care is available.

• Exposure to the elements for extended periods.

LMYC and Roads and Maritime Services also warn participants that regardless of their best intentions, they may be unable to render assistance to participants who are in distress. Participants are warned to consider the above risks and all other risks before deciding to participate in any sailing event with LMYC.

Participants are also advised that although LMYC is covered by third party liability insurance, this cover DOES NOT extend to participants. Any Participant who considers they have a need for insurance must make their own

private arrangements with an insurer. A personal accident insurance policy is

available with subscription to membership of Australian Sailing.

*******************

Skippers are reminded that under the Aquatic Licence issued by Roads and Maritime

Services to LMYC, competitors in LMYC events are not to sail within 30 metres of

moored or anchored vessels. All accidents involving serious damage or personal injury

are to be reported to RMS. Failure to do may cause the Club’s Aquatic License to be

revoked.
