Head Coach Joe Mihalich: Now in his fifth season at the helm of the Hofstra Men’s Basketball program, Joe Mihalich has engineered a strong resurgence of the Pride in four years. Mihalich has led Hofstra to 59 wins over the past three seasons and the Pride has averaged more than 17 wins a season since Mihalich took over a program coming off a seven-win campaign. Mihalich guided the Pride to 15 wins during the 2016-17 season and saw four players earn honors from the Colonial Athletic Association. The breakout year of Justin Wright-Foreman garnered him All-CAA Second Team accolades, while freshman Eli Pemberton picked up CAA All-Rookie Team honors after a strong first season in a Hofstra uniform. Mihalich, who guided the Niagara University to five postseason appearances during his tenure as the Purple Eagles head coach, was named the 12th head coach in the history of the Hofstra University Men’s Basketball program on April 10, 2013. In four seasons at Hofstra, Mihalich has engineered a masterful revitalization of the Pride Basketball program as he took over a program coming off a seven-win campaign and in only three years took the team to back-to-back 20-win campaigns and consecutive postseasons appearances. The 2015-16 team went 24-10, winning the regular season CAA title and advancing to the National Invitation Tournament. It marked the most wins for the program since the 2005-06 season and the regular season conference title was the program's first since joining the CAA in 2001. In addition, the NIT appearance was the program's first since 2007. Mihalich came to Hofstra after leading the Purple Eagles since 1998. During that time he won 265 games, earned a pair of NCAA Tournament berths and made three National Invitation Tournament (NIT) appearances.

He is the first Hofstra player to score 30 or more points in back-to-back games since Charles Jenkins tallied 40 against Binghamton on December 8, 2010 and followed that up with 32 points against Florida Atlantic on December 11, 2010. High-Scoring Win Streak: Hofstra’s recent win streak of four games saw the Pride cross the 80-point plateau in all four games. Incredibly, it is the first time that Hofstra has scored at least 80 points in four consecutive wins since January 16-28, 2000 when Hofstra scored 81 vs. Hartford, 80 vs. Maine, 83 vs. New Hampshire and 80 vs. Northeastern. That was during a 10-game win streak. The Pride crossed the 80-point plateau in six straight during that streak. Gustys Senior CLASS Candidate: Senior Rokas Gustys was named one of 30 candidates nationally for the 2017-18 Senior CLASS Award in men's basketball, it was announced on January 4. Gustys earned his undergraduate degree in rhetorical studies this past December. He graduated with a 3.19 grade point average. He will now begin work towards a master of arts (MA) in public relations. One of the all-time greatest rebounders in Hofstra and Colonial Athletic Association history, Gustys currently has career totals of 1,078 rebounds and 990 points. He is 10 points shy of becoming only the 35th player in program history with 1,000 career points. His impressive rebounds total currently ranks third all-time in school history and fourth all-time in CAA history. Gustys also has 40 career double-doubles and is one of only two players nationally with more than 1,000 career rebounds. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to fields of 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four® this spring.
