The last time we got together was at Sabie early in December. I had requested that we support Child Welfare with gifts for underprivileged children. THE NOMADS CREED

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;

Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind;

And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

It tolls for thee.”

CAPTAIN’S COMMENTS

To those I haven’t seen this year much health and happiness to you and your families for 2017.

The last time we got together was at Sabie early in December. I had requested that we support Child Welfare with gifts for underprivileged children. I also realised that we had already asked a lot from our members and expected some support but was amazed at the final outcome. Dave More O’Ferrall donated two Hover-boards which we auctioned and combined with a fines

session from Garth we raised in the region of R16 500-00.

Andrew Mentis Chairman Brian Springorum then offered

to top this figure up to R30 000-00 out of surplus

Andrew Mentis funds. This in the form of i’Langa Mall

gift vouchers together with the 48 gifts we collected

gave Child welfare a really big surprise. All of this

is thanks to the members of Lowveld Nomads.

One of our biggest challenges faces the club in two

months time. The Jock Nationals is upon us and Andrew

Andrew Bullen and committee are very busy pulling

together all the arrangements which started almost two

years ago. Take it from me this is an arduous task with

so many elements to consider.

During the Nationals, help will always be needed.

Even if you are only able to volunteer an afternoon of

your time please let Andrew know ([email protected]) and he will find a job for you.

At our next game in Nelspruit we will have the pleasure of celebrating Gary Angelos 400th Nomads game. Pause and reflect on this………………… The tally excludes any Gary Player Knockout or Nationals games and is accumulated only from the 12 monthly games annually. This shows Gary’s amazing commitment to the Nomadic cause. Congratulations Gary from everyone at the club. Arrange a lift home, there are many of us wanting to have a celebratory tipple with

you.

I look forward to seeing you at Nelspruit

A new year with a whole lot of resolutions no doubt. Some of us have vowed to lose weight, while others have decided to play more golf but whatever your resolution is—I hope you have been able to stick to it at least up until now. I see that there were quite a few Nomads who played a lot of golf over the holiday period so I’m sure that there will be a few good scores at our next game at Nelspruit. It is great to see from the entry list that there are Nomads coming from near and far, including the National Chairman to celebrate Gary “the Greek” Angelos playing his 400th game. Its a huge milestone and shows a wonderful commitment to Nomads over a long

period of time. Well done Gary.

Sabie was our last venue for the year and once again they went out of their way to host us as only they know how. The food was great and their double gin and tonic special was too good to resist. The course was in as good a condition as it has ever been and all in all it is definitely one of the best venues we play at. The scores were not very high and having once again dodged a bullet in terms of the matchbox on a personal note it was great. I

learned as well that spending all that money on tapes to learn a foreign language are a complete waste of time!!

Hoggie and Big Brian had about six doubles and they were talking fluent Chinese by the time they left and no

boys…. Yu Hit Long is not the name of a Chinese golfer.

The rains are finally here and while I am not sure if it has been enough to satisfy the farmers it certainly looks better than it did a month or two ago. Speaking about rain “What do you call the first day after two days rain?”

“Monday”.

For those of you struggling with your game take heart from the fact that at the season opener on the web.com tour in the States one of the golfers Greg Eason lost 32 balls over his first two rounds and shot a 91 and a 95 and he gets paid to do it! So next time you have a shocker I know you won’t think about him but after you have blamed your partner, your clubs, your caddie, your old glove and your swing coach remember it’s only a game.

(Yeah right!!)

Finally for those of you who play golf with your wives : Three men got to the Pearly Gates and St Peter asked them all the same question “In all the years of playing golf with your wife did you ever cheat?”. The first guy admitted cheating once and St Peter gave him a motorbike

and let him in.

The second guy admitted cheating on quite a few occasions and St Peter gave him a small Toyota and let him in.

The third man said in all the years he had played he had never cheated

whilst playing golf with his wife and that he had also never beaten

her and so St Peter gave him a Rolls Royce and let him in. A few

days later one of his mates drove past him and saw him sitting in

his Rolls crying like a baby. He stopped and asked him what the

problem was and the guy replied “I have just seen my wife come

past and she was on a skateboard”.

See you on the course,
