2016–2017 FINANCIAL REPORT

Dear Friend,

As we approach graduation season, the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic has a milestone of its own to report. In 2017, Dr. Rusty Long concluded 39 years as executive director and handed over the reins to Dr. Liz Prada, who assumed her new responsibilities July 1. Fortunately, Dr. Long will remain part of our clinical team and continue his pioneering research on the most effective treatment practices. This Annual Report highlights other milestones for 2017 as well as the generous donors that made them possible.

Some of our teenage and young adult patients have also reached a major milestone: the completion of their cleft and craniofacial treatment. This is no small feat.

In addition to juggling the rigors of childhood (homework, sports, clubs, after-school jobs), our patients have spent their entire lives visiting physicians, dentists, speech pathologists, audiologists, and other specialists. Some had trouble hearing their teacher in class. Some felt self-conscious on the playground because of a scar from surgery. Some were afraid to speak up in class because of a speech difference or crooked teeth. Despite these challenges, our patients have worked hard to become the best version of themselves. The Clinic’s team of specialists supported them every step of the way.

This spring we thank all those listed in this report (and on our website) on behalf of our graduating patients. OUR MISSIONThe Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of infants, children, and adults through comprehensive coordinated treatment of craniofacial conditions resulting from birth defects, trauma, and disease.

Graduation Day Is Coming Soon!Two graduations, in fact—one from Hamburg Area High School in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and one from the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic. Both landmarks have Justin and his parents smiling from ear-to-ear.

Theirs has been a journey that began when Justin’s cleft lip and palate were detected during a routine ultrasound. Today his braces are off, 20 surgeries and procedures are behind him, and the Repperts are celebrating. Just take one look at Justin’s weathered baby picture below and you’ll understand why.

For the last six years, Justin has been under the skillful care of the team of professionals at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic. His mother, Christi, cannot say enough about their experience at the Clinic. “You can feel the difference here,” she repeats again and again. “They don’t just work here…everyone wants to BE here…to make a difference in every patient’s life.”
