2 SOCRATIC  Website

2.1 Domain  Names    The  SOCRATIC  project  website  has  been  designed  as  a  highly  visual  portal  accessible  to  the  general  public.  The  main  goal  to  be  achieved  with  the  creation  of  the  project  website  is  to  have  the  website  as  a  dissemination  tool.  It  will  help  in  the  promotion  of  the  corporate  identity  and  spread  all  the  public   information  to  a  higher   level.   Its  main  audience  comprises  citizens  and  the  scientific  community.

The  project  website  will  include  information  concerning  the  project  and  its  progress.  Furthermore,   public   deliverables   will   be   available   to   interested   individuals   for  download  offering   them  access   to   detailed   or   technical   information   of   the   project  development  and  execution.

The  site  will  be  under  periodical  maintenance  in  order  to  preserve  all  its  functions  as  well  as  add  new  contents  to  its  sections  or  update  the  information  that  it  holds.

Main  features  of  the  website  are  to  inform  of  the  project  characteristics,  explain  its  main  objectives,  show  involved  partners  information,  what  are  their  business  areas,  their  interest  of  being  part  of  SOCRATIC  and  their  personal  goals.  Moreover,  with  the  offer  of  a  public  deliverables   list  an  extensive  amount  of  produced  material  will  be  accessible  to  anyone  interested.  It  will  corroborate  all  efforts  made  on  this  project  in  terms  of  tangible  information.

Besides,   the   website   gives   access   to   a   portal,   a   complementary   platform   for  subscribers  to  get  enlisted  and  possibly  participate  on  testing  the  platform.  Partners  will  have  at  their  disposal  updated  statistics  of  visitor’s  presence  in  the  web,  ability  to  manage  visitors’  feedback  or  comments  and  to  respond  their  inquisitiveness.

The   site  will   also   have   an   events   and   activities   section   that   embrace   all   corporate  communications   related   to   the   project   as   could   be   news   connected   to   project’s  activity,  close  events  or  programmed  activities.

The   website   can   be   addressed   through   ‘http://www.socratic.eu/’   under   the   ‘.eu’  domain   which   emphasizes   the   'European   identity'   of   the   project   and   the  collaboration   established   between   organizations   from   different   countries   of   the  European  Union.

2.2 Website  Technical  Specifications

2.2.1 Platform  The  website   is   based   in  WordPress.   The  website   contains   all   the   required   tools   to  ease   the   procedure   of   uploading   and   updating   contents   by   any   registered   user  without  having  any  knowledge  of  web  programming.  WordPress  4.4.2  package  has  been   adapted   in   order   to   include   the   functionalities   required   by   the   SOCRATIC  website,   as   well   as   the   corporate   image   of   SOCRATIC.   The   website   is   hosted   in  servers   located   in   CIB   headquarters   in   order   to   ensure   the   confidentiality   and  availability  of  the  information  uploaded.

2.2.2 Accessibility  and  usability  WordPress   is  one  of   the  CMS   that   contributes   the  most  on   creating  websites  with  good  web   usability,  maybe   because   it   is   on   of   the   easiest   to   understand   and   also  because   it   is   on  of   the  CMS  with   a  broader   community,   therefore   there   are  many  developed  themes  and  plugins  that  will  help  us  create  usable  sites.  Nowadays  web  usability  and  accessibility  is  an  important  factor  when  speaking  about  development  or  perfection  of  a  website,  we  should  not  only  pay  attention  to  SEO  and  searcher,  we  must  create  understandable  websites  for  users,  visitors  and  clients,  since  it   is  them  who  are  going  to  use  it  and  browse  and  this  is  something  we  have  held  into  account  while  creating  SOCRATIC´s  platform,  characterized  by:

− Responsive  Web  Design   adaptable   to   smartphones   and   tablets  without   the  need  of  having  a  specific  version  of  the  website.

− Efficient   charge   speed   following   good   practices   indicated   by   Google,   the  sooner  a  website  loads,  the  better.

− Web  Design  to  promote  reading  content  clearly  and  understandably,  without  eyestrain  and  making  easier  browsing  through  the  different  website  pages.

− The  Website  design  must  be  totally  compatible  with  all  browsers,  meaning  it  must  be  seen  equally  in  any  browser,  no  matter  it´s  version.

 10

2.3 Website  Design  Specifications    SOCRATIC   logo   and   corporate   image   respond   to   the   idea   of   pieces   that   come  together   and   colours   that   show   the   diversity   of   organizations   that   are  working   on  this  H2020  project.  The  main  objective  of  the  project   is  to  create  a  platform  where  people,   institutions  and  organizations  propose  and  materialize   innovative  solutions  for  achieving  the  Sustainable  Development  Goals  set  by  the  United  Nations.  So,  the  logo   needs   to   portray   this   idea.   The   proposed   logo   wants   to   convey   the   idea   of  geometric  pieces  that  fit  together  like  a  puzzle  in  the  shape  of  an  "S",  the  initial  letter  of  "SOCRATIC".      Acting  as  a  network  and  as  a  visual  metaphor  about  how  the  Collective  Knowledge  participates   in   a   common   goal:  Different   pieces  working   to   generate   social   impact  through  collaboration.  We  have  used  a  selection  of  corporate  colours  based  on  the  scale   used   in   the  Objectives   of   Sustainable  Development   graphic   image.   The  main  idea  is  to  create  a  mental  association  with  them  when  you  see  the  SOCRATIC  Logo.  A  set  of  colours  that  visually  support  the  entire  life  cycle  of  the  project,  identifying  all  materials  that  are  made  for  dissemination,  communication,  web  and  events.      The   visual   identity   of   the   project   is   visually   materialized   with   a   network   of   social  innovation  in  which  the  connecting  links  are  iconograms  of  the  Goals  of  Sustainable  Development,  also  using  the  colour  spectrum  of  the  logo.  This  palette  is  expanded  in  the   web,   creating   a   clear,   harmonious   and   clean   set   that   conveys   simplicity   and  focuses  on   the   information   in   the  different   sections  of   the   site.   The   logo  acts   as   a  cornerstone  uniting  all  designs  both  on-‐line  an  off-‐line.      On  the  website  design  area  we  wanted  to  add  to  the  mix,  creativity,  H2020  goals  on  which  we  have  based   the  project,   and   the  WordPress   templates.   SOCRATIC  design  has   been   done   by   a   creative   designer,   taking   into   consideration   the   concept  SOCRATIC   wants   to   transmit.   We   have   based   the   web   on   “the   fox”   a   modern  template  with  a  very  clean  design,  simple,  characterized  by  a  very  high  usability.  Also  highlighting  the  original  design  that  offers  small  details  like  the  buttons  and  icons.

2.4.7 Join  to  test  the  SOCRATIC  Platform    This  is  not  a  section  itself,  but  highlighted  on  the  Home  Page  as  one  of  the  objectives  of   the   platform   is   that   it   will   be   used   to   find   innovative   social   solutions.   At   the  moment,  the  website  is  purely  informative,  but  we  want  to  change  this  in  the  future,  so  that  it  can  become  a  practical  tool.      This   is  why  from  the  beginning;  we  contemplate  using  this  tool  so  that  people  that  are  attracted  to  our  Project  are  able  to  join,  to  test  the  platform.  This  is  the  reason  why  we  have   created  a   “call   to   join   to   test   the  SOCRATIC  Platform”   so   that   in   the  next   steps,  website   users   can   also   participate   in   the   creation  of   the   platform.   The  subscribers  will  be  able  to  test  the  platform,  providing  us  with  very  useful  data.

Figure  11.  Joining  SOCRATIC  pilot  scenarios  (CTA  and  form)

The  objective  is  that  there  are  Registration  Forms  in  the  future,  on  what  we  will  work  on  the  following  months.

2.4.8 Social  Networks    The  benefits  on  using  Social  Networks  to  disseminate  the  project  are  that  we  can  get  possible   future  users   to  know  the  platform.  Because  we  want   interested  people  to  possibly  test   it,  we  think  this  the  way  of  reaching  them.  We  have  chosen  Facebook  and  Twitter  because  with  YouTube  they  are  the  most  used  Social  Networks,  reaching  a  broader  span  of  people.      Facebook  and  Twitter  pages  have  been   set  up.  We  will   upload  news  generated  by  SOCRATIC´s   Project,   as   well   as   any   interesting   information   related   to   other   social  innovation  projects   in   Europe  and  Worldwide.  Our   goal   is   to  update  our  page  and  timeline  at  least  on  a  weekly  basis.

2.5 Website  statistics    Google   Analytics   has   also   been   included   in   the   website   in   order   to   monitor   and  analyse  the  number  and  profile  of  visitors  to  the  website  and  adapt  the  content  to  attract  more  visitors  and  from  specific  sectors.  It  makes  it  possible  to  measure  all  the  data  generated  by  a  website  concerning  the  users.

Google  Analytics   is  an  analysis   tool   that  will   facilitate  generating  reports  about   the  people   that   visit   the   website   in   a   simple   way.   It   will   also   allow   us   to   analyse   the  content,   generating   reports   about   the   areas   of   the   webpage   that   have   better   or  worse  performance,  being  able  to  optimize  posterior  actions.

With  Google  Analytics  we  can  also  know  in  SOCRATIC´s  webpage,  which  browser  and  devices  are  being  used  to  browse  the  website.  What  for?  Establishing  if  the  visitors  are   using   a   desktop   computer,   a   smartphone,   a   tablet,   and   the   type   of   browser.  Allowing  to  optimize  SOCRATIC´s  website  and  reorganizing  what  must  appear  on  the  screen  without  having  to  scroll  as  much.

3.2 Brochures    In  the  same  line  of  inspiration  the  cover  is  designed  with  a  set  of  colors  that  visually  support  the  entire  life  cycle  of  the  project,  identifying  all  materials  that  are  made  for  dissemination,   communication,   web   and   events   (on   covers,   brochures,   etc.)   .   The  visual   identity   of   the   project   is   visually   materialized   with   a   network   of   social  innovation  in  which  the  connecting  links  are  iconograms  of  the  Goals  of  Sustainable  Development,  also  using  the  colour  spectrum  of  the  logo.

The  back  cover  of  the  brochures  summarizes  the  goals  of  the  Project.  Our  objective  is   that  people   that   read  the  brochure  have  a  global   idea  of  our  purpose.  The  main  diffusion  of  brochures  will  be   in  dissemination  events.    Synthesizing,  SOCRATIC  will  implement   a   Global   Observatory   on   Sustainability   Challenges   with   a   double  objective:   (1)   Measuring   the   impact   of   SOCRATIC   actions   on   Global   Sustainability  Challenges   by   monitoring   social   networks,   (2)   Using   the   data   about   Global  Sustainability   Challenges   gathered   in   social   media   as   a   source   of   information   to  launch  challenges  in  the  SOCRATIC  platform.

4 Planning  Next  Steps  The   SOCRATIC   public   and   internal   websites   will   continue   to   be   updated   and  improved  throughout  the  life  of  the  project.  The  public  website  will  be  updated  with  project   outcomes   and   news,   to   keep   the   general   public,   social   entrepreneurs,   the  scientific  and  social  innovation  community  and  industry  informed  of  how  the  project  is  progressing.  We  want   the  Website   to  be  alive  and  dynamic,   a   representation  of  the   progress   of   the   project.   For   the   time   being,   the   sections   that   are   already  complete  are  the  Home  Page,  the  “About  us”  section,  and  the  “Partners”,  being  the  project   in   an   initial   informative   phase   in  which   there   isn´t   enough   content   for   the  “Blog”   and   “Dissemination”   sections.   The   following   steps   planned   within   the  platform  for  the  next  trimester  are:

• Registration  Forms  • Follow  up  • Dissemination

o Press  Releases

4.1 Registration  Forms  The  Registration  forms  section  which  target  will  be  the  User   Interest  Group  will  be  implemented  as  one  of  our  next  phases.  For  the  moment  the  submission  form  can  be  found  at  the  bottom  of  the  Home  Page.  Again,  there  is  a  small  description  of  the  project,  mentioning  that  the  platform  is  in  a  beta  phase  and  that  we  are  looking  for  testers.  Requiring  submitting  the  email,  name,  surname  and  country  of  the  user.

4.2 Follow-‐up  This  section´s  content  will  reflect  the  results  achieved  by  SOCRATIC.  When  published,  all  Public  Deliverables  will  be  available  on  the   Internet  site   including   the  SOCRATIC  project  presentation  and  leaflet.  The  follow-‐up  section  will  be  for  the  visitor  a  way  of  tracing  in  detail  the  project.    The  SOCRATIC  outcomes  are  constituted  of   information  concerning  the  project  and  its   progress.   Furthermore,   public   deliverables   will   be   available   to   interested  individuals  for  download  offering  them  access  to  detailed  or  technical  information  of  the  project  development  and  execution.      For  the  beginning  of  the  project,  only  the  deliverable   part   is   regularly   updated.   However,   we   will   continuously   update   the  website  visitors  with  the  activities  conducted  in  the  project.

 28

4.3 Dissemination    On  the  next  quarter,  press  releases  will  be  focused  on  promoting  on  the  media  on  a  national  and  international  level.

Press  releases  (PR),  although  not  specified  in  the  DoA,  will  be  widely  disseminated  to  outside  media  outlets  to  announce  important  news  about  the  project.  Press  Releases  will   be   an   important   dissemination   tool,   describing   the  progress   of   the  project,   so  that  visitors  can  keep  posted.    Partners   can   prepare   a   PR   for   any   important   announcement   (milestones,   major  achievements,   important   publication   etc.);   They   can   validate   the   content   of   the  press  releases  prior  to  any  diffusion;    Partners  will  upload  the  PR  it  onto  the  project  website  resources  area  so  that  they  remains  accessible  to  the  general  public;    Partners   also   can   send   the   press   release   through   their   extended   networks   of  contacts  to  maximize  awareness.      Project   newsletters,   released   on   a   quarterly   basis,   will   enable   the   consortium   to  update  the  project  community  with  latest  project  activities  and  results.

5 Conclusions    The  online  SOCRATIC  public  website  is  a  key  element  of  the  project’s  dissemination  strategy.   Its   features   are   providing   a   visitor-‐friendly   environment,   offering   a   clear  description  of   the  project   and   its  objectives,   informing  about  project  development  and  serving  as  main   feedback   tool   collecting  public   interest  concerning   the  project  and  related  issues.

Website  design  was  conceived  as  accessible  as  possible.  A  clear  distinction  between  sections  has  been  made  and  navigation  across  the  website  is  remarkably  easy.

This  site  will:

− Ensure  the  visibility  of  the  project.  − Facilitate  the  diffusion  of  the  project's  results  − Promote  their  exploitation.

The   website   provides   a   basic   set   of   information   about   the   project   and   will   be  regularly   updated  with   scientific   results,   findings   and   achievements.    Popularity   of  the  site  will  be  increased  through  active  links  (websites  of  SOCRATIC  partners  and  of  relevant   EU   projects   /   institutions   and  within   the   stakeholder   network   of   national  relays)   and   by   targeting   appropriate   keywords   for   each   page   of   the   SOCRATIC  website.    The   information  contained  on   the  project  website   is   likely   to  be  valuable  even  after  the  project  has  finished.  Therefore,  the  consortium  aims  at  ensuring  that  the   website   will   continue   to   exist   after   the   project   funding   has   finished   and   that  bookmarks  and  published  URLs  will  continue  to  function.
