As an individual who have traveled to more than 20 nations of the world, invited to the White House twice, and spoken to audiences of 25,000 at a time, I am not easily impressed. But, when I first met Tawana inAtlanta I was immediately aware of the fact that there was something different about her besides not havingarms. Her independence and jovial attitude quickly distracted me from what some would call a handicap. As she spoke that day, she had us laughing at one moment and cringe the next, yet none of it had to do withsadness. She seemed to be 10 feet tall that day as she inspired us all. Somehow her not having arms did notbother her at all, and it made us not be bothered either. She talked like she could accomplish anything. Itwas like her disbelief had been suspended.

A few months later I invited her to be a keynote speaker at a seminar I hosted. When she finished speakingand demonstrating what she could do with her feet she literally was overwhelming to those in attendance. Ibelieve everybody walked out of the room that night destroying every excuse they came in with. Later, spending personal time with her and Toby further showed me what an incredible women I was in thepresence of. I would not only like to give this book the highest recommendation, but also recommend thatyou have her come to your community to experience her live. And I do mean live!

Foreword “UNarmed But Dangerous” By-Les Brown

Have you ever heard someone’s voice and they spoke to the very core of your being? I have!

Have you ever met someone and instantly you knew you were in the presence of greatness? Ihave! Have you ever met someone who had so much going against them that you wondered howthey were able to survive and then felt ashamed of yourself for living a defeated life? I have! That’s how I felt when I met Tawana.

Born without arms and with a tiny stature of just over 4 ft., she overcame child molestation, poverty, rape, mental and physical abuse, addiction to crack and cocaine amongst other painfultragedies. Using her feet, she learned how to write and draw beautiful works of art, answer thephone, cook and live a normal life. She operates a business, mesmerizes audiences as amotivational speaker and can sing the roof off of a church. In addition to all those things I willventure to say that her greatest joy is being a devoted loving wife to her soul mate and God givencompanion Toby. To see them together and the love they express for each other is the greatestexample I have ever seen of what love truly is. Toby, a gifted speaker and a servant husbandtaught me and the men in one of my recent Speaker Training Summits, how to serve and treat awoman with class. We were humbled and felt blessed to learn from his example and in particularto be in their presence to witness their devotion to each other.

There is no question in my mind that Tawana will impact peoples’ lives around the world throughher classic book, UNarmed But Dangerous. This warm, inspiring and incredible human spiritdoes so much with so little, that she challenges all of us to look within and realize how muchmore life has to offer if only we were willing to commit ourselves to do what is required to live amore significant life.

Tawana’s life example will inspire you to soar to new heights and to accomplish things that willliterally amaze you. Although Tawana does not carry a gun or a knife, she is truly unarmed anddangerous because she uses the weapons of her faith in God and her unfailing commitment toserve His calling on her life, as we all should do. After reading this book your life will never bethe same again. “Tawana, the world is a better place because you showed up”!

FACT SHEET:The History of Thalidomide

Thalidomide became infamous in the early 1960s as one of the biggest drugdisasters in recent history.

Around 15,000 fetuses were damaged by Thalidomide, of whom about 12,000 in46 countries were born with birth defects, with only 8,000 of them surviving pastthe first year of life. Most of these survivors are still alive, nearly all withdisabilities caused by the drug.

Thalidomide was soon banned worldwide when it was discovered that it causedtragic birth defects.

Thalidomide was actually never approved by the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) during the early 1960s, and therefore, prevented thousands of deformitiesfrom occurring in the United States. Frances Oldham Kelsey, the reviewer at theFDA who delayed the approval, was awarded the President’s Award forDistinguished Federal Civilian Service (at the time, the highest civilian award inthe U.S.) by President John F. Kennedy.

Taking even a single dose of thalidomide during early pregnancy may causemajor birth defects.

In 1998, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Thalidomide for usein treating leprosy symptoms. Studies are also being conducted to determine theeffectiveness of Thalidomide in treating symptoms associated with AIDS,Behchet Disease, Lupus, Sjogren Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis, InflammatoryBowel Disease, Macular Degeneration and some cancers.

Introduction of “UNarmed But Dangerous”

An eagle in flight is magnificent. Its wings allow it to soar above the

earth with majestic power. The scene makes you stop whatever you are

doing and watch. Watching the eagle fly reminds me of God’s power.

The eagle is so powerful that it can even soar above an approaching

storm. It catches the wind by the tail and then rides the air currents,

much like a surfer who catches a good wave. It does not fear. It does not panic. It only

watches and waits until just the right moment and then aligns itself with the coming force

of nature. Then it rides, glides and soars.

Just imagine that same eagle without wings. Without its wings, the eagle would be

powerless. It would not be able to surf the storm, soar above the earth and we would miss

the sight of him in flight. Without wings, the eagle would also starve; its ability to fly

high above the earth and search out his prey would be lost. The eagle would not be able

to swoop down and catch in its claws, the prey it needs for survival. Without its wings,

this magnificent bird of prey would die. Like that eagle, we have all been created to soar.

Most of us came into the world with arms, legs, a functioning mind and a healthy body.

Like that eagle, we each have the chance to soar above our life’s storms and catch the tail

of our dreams and feel the wind of our vision. With arms outspread, we each wait for our

chance to catch a wave and soar. My story is a bit different. As you read it, my prayer is

that you will see that eagles can learn to fly, even without wings. I pray that my story will

encourage you to live without excuses and even if your wings get broken, make the

attempt to fly. I believe that if you will try, then you will live. If you don’t try, then like

the eagle without wings, your dreams will surely die. My prayer is that my story will

cause you to see that God has given you many gifts and you can do so many things to

bring Him glory. I encourage you to look beyond your boundaries, live your life to its

fullest potential and soar about your life’s storms with power.

“UNarmed But Dangerous”Back cover Summary:

“God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound thethings which are mighty; And base things of the world, and thingswhich are despised, hath God chosen, yea and the things which areNot, to bring to nought the things that are: That no flesh shouldglory in his presence…He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.”-1 Corinthians 1:27-31

Greetings,

What would you do if you were born without your arms? Would you feel sorry for yourself anddrown in your sorrows? Would you have thoughts of suicide? Many of us would have chosenthose paths if we had been born without our arms but not Tawana Williams.

In her Classic and Best Selling Book “UNarmed But Dangerous,” Tawana tells her poignantstory of being born without arms, surviving the trauma of gang rape, being raped by her stepfather, abortion, the miraculous birth of her daughter and ten years of drug addiction. Thesechallenges have built her muscle.

Born during the early 1960s when pregnant women were prescribed Thalidomide for morningsickness, Tawana was born without both of her arms. Her mother was desperate to seek help forher daughter but was turned away by government institutions until she wrote a letter to thePresident of the United States John F. Kennedy. President Kennedy wrote back with instructionson where to go for help. Tawana was admitted into the Cerebral Palsy Hospital at Duke inDurham, North Carolina. She then began learning how to use her feet to perform everydayactivities.

When she left the institution at the age of four, she used her sense of humor to overcome thetaunts she received from the other children. Tawana had a great need to be accepted and this soonproved to be one of her greatest liabilities. Although she was an outstanding student, she wouldsoon allow her grades to slip so that the other students would accept her. Once the barriers of thegood grades were gone, she connected with the drug culture. She smoked marijuana and beforeshe realized what was happening, she became addicted to crack cocaine. This began herdownward spiral which lasted 10 years.

In 1991, after becoming tired of her lifestyle, Tawana cried out for God to deliver her from heraddictions. Her prayers were answered, instantly. Today she speaks to audiences all around thecountry encouraging them to look beyond their circumstances and to accept God’s gift of freedomwithout limitations.

Currently, Tawana Williams is accepting Keynote Speaking engagements and/or interviewopportunities. For more information about her books or to schedule an appearance, please feelfree to contact us. In the meanwhile, have a blessed day!
