Once again we welcome Don Heggie to be joining us with his excellent set of Purebred Simmental Bulls. We will be working with Frank Jenkins, Justin Keeley and Darren Shaw, all with Southern Alberta Livestock Exchange. These are a trustworthy group of pro-fessionals who all have a lifetime of experience in raising and marketing Beef Cattle.

2015 was a year for change in our operation. In March of 2015 Ed and Randy Mackenzie announced to us that they had sold their purebred cows and would not be joining us in future Bull Sales. We can’t imagine how difficult this decision was for them to make. We deeply appreciate all of the contributions that Ted & Reva, Ed & Diana, Randy & Karen, Carol & Ray as well as your families have made to hosting Canada’s Longest running Red Angus Bull Sale. The Bulls you have raised and the Females you have produced have left their footprint on the Red Angus Breed forever. We wish you all the best in your commercial cattle operations.

Also in 2015 Don, Linda, Jade & Steve have worked together to operate under the new name of V8U Ranch Ltd. You will hear this name more often in the future and you will also notice as you receive your registration papers on your new bull’s they will also carry this name on them. V8U is our brand that we have used on our Ranch in the same location near Mountain View for over 100 Years.

Operating on our own we are now faced with the humbling task of keeping fresh new breed leading genetics in large enough volume to support our customers to reach their goals each year. To do this we have utilized more of our commer-cial cow herd as recipients to carry embryos from our most

prolific females. We have also added some new outcross bulls to our Bull Battery. Be rest assured, that though there may be a few less bulls to choose from this year the offering is more uniform, with the quality as deep as ever.

2015 appears to be the year that we have seen the high’s come in for the very strong cattle market of 2014/15. Although the market is trending lower than we saw in early September the cow calf business will remain quite profitable for the next cou-ple of years. No matter what the market does, quality cattle in uniform packages always bring a premium. Although you will be the final judge, we feel the pen of bulls we have raised this year is possibly the most uniform ever. This should allow you as the purchaser to procure either 1 Bull to go with similar Bulls you have purchased from us in the past or buy multiple bulls which will give you a very uniform set of calves.

This year we have incorporated the technology of i50K Ge-nomic testing. Every Angus Bull in the offering has been Sire Verified and i50K tested. You will find a detailed explanation of this in the catalogue on page six. We have made significant investment to give you the customer more accurate informa-tion about each of our bulls.

We purchased Mission at the historic Geis Angus Dispersal sale. He saw heavy use in our Heifer Pen. He is an easy fleshing sound footed Bull that we are very proud of. We are currently calving out his first Daughters. They are moderate framed easy fleshing females with beautiful udders.

This was a very popular Bull at the 2013 Bull Sale. We had to pull him from the sale due to an unfortunate injury. 110Z saw heavier use in the spring of 2014. Expect outstanding growth and good Marbling out of the 110Z Sons.

Thor is a Bull we were very excited to acquire from Russ and Cindy Sibbald of Lazy RC Angus. We selected Thor because of his thickness, depth and overall length. He is a foot improver. In the Fall of 2015 we invested heavily in the use of i50K Genomics Testing. Every Angus Bull in this year’s Bull sale as well as every purebred 2015 Replacement fe-male we have retained have undergone the use of this technology.

What does this mean to you as a pur-chaser of our offering?

First of all this ensures Sire Verification of every Bull. This eliminates any possi-ble Sire error. Another benefit to you is an improvement in the accuracy of the EPD’s on all of our Bulls. Traditionally the Canadian Angus Association takes averages of both parents of each calf, they then calculate the EPD’s on each animal. What i50K does is takes genom-

ic markers collected through DNA and blends this with EPD’s to achieve Ge-nomically Enhanced EPD’s. This gives us much more accurate information.

When you purchase a Bull that has not been tested you are relying on EPD av-erages that both his parents have pro-duced.

When looking at an i50K Tested Bull the Genomically Enhanced EPD’s are as accurate as though the Bull you are purchasing has sired 20 calves depend-ing on the trait.

This obviously doesn’t tell us every-thing about the Bull, but gives us sim-ilar information of what we might see

from the first set of calves they have sired. Although EPD’s have been a very valuable tool in the past the use of i50K offers added confidence in purchasing decisions. This technology is not some gimmick to make our Bulls look better than normal. For every Bull in the sale that experienced a positive impact on their EPD’s another Bull had a negative impact. Take Lot #’s 112 & 113 in this year’s sale for example. These two bulls are twin brothers. Normally their EPD’s would be identical, but because they have been i50K Tested you can see vari-ance in some traits.

It’s going to be different not having Ed and Randy Mackenzie and their families in the sale this year. We wish them luck in their future endeavors. I am sure though that I will see Randy at a lot of basketball games. And I will still have to lis-ten to his bragging and complaining as usual.

BIDS - Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder A floor price will apply to each animal consigned.

DISPUTES - In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but no risk is assumed by the Fort Macleod Auction Market Ltd., or the seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are re-quested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. Any additional expenses are the responsibil-ity of the buyer, including duty, brokerage fees, etc.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE - Mackenzie Red Angus have done everything possible to assure you, the buyer, that every bull in this sale will be a breeder. A certified veter-inarian will have semen tested and physically evaluated every bull. In the unlikely event of a dispute, regular terms & conditions standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply.

RETAINED INTERESTS - Mackenzie Red Angus reserves the right to collect “Owners Use” semen from any bull in this sale at our expense and the buyer’s convenience.

ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sales manager, auctioneer nor any owner assumes any respon-sibility in this matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

LIABILITY - Fort Macleod Auction Market Ltd. are acting as agents only and assume no responsibility for represen-tations made by the seller. Purchasers must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.
