Much has changed since 1994 when in a smallefficiency apartment in Alexandria, Virginia, AnnaMaria Arias threw caution to the wind and launchedLATINA Style. It was an exciting and scaryproposition. Success has notbeen easy, but making dreams a reality never is.Dreams take hard work, resilience, stamina and awillingness to put it all on the line. This is the pathLatinas have followed in corporate America.Incredible commitment, sacrifice, an unshakablebelief in themselves and loyalty are but a few of the

many qualities Latinas bring to the table. As the demographics of our nation change and

the Hispanic population continues to increase it wasinevitable that all eyes would turn to the Hispaniccommunity. And guess what? Latinas are leadingthe way.

We are delighted to also recognize ourTop Latina Executives of the Year and theTop Hispanic Employee Resource Groupsof the Year. ! Having a Stake in Comcast NBCUniversal’s Success

By Marlene Sanchez Dooner Executive Vice President, Comcast NBCUniversal

In my 20 years as part of the Comcast family, there are still aspects ofthe company that surprise me. I marvel at how quickly our customers’

media consumption habits continue to change, and in turn, how we’reresponding by creating new technologies, platforms and content tomeet their needs. They’re exciting changes – and our commitment toinnovation is at the very center of our culture. Our focus on innovationhas been a big part of our success since I joined the company in 1995and I’m pleased to see how it still drives everything we do.

I’m also really pleased, althoughnot surprised, that Comcast was namedthe best company for Latinas - for thesecond time in four years. For nearly20 years, I have watched with pride, astime and again, Comcast placed highpriority on Latino inclusion in our hiring,on employee development and promotion,in support of supplier diversity, onprogramming carriage and contentdiversity and community investment.

I grew up in Puerto Rico, and as achild, I was most inspired by theexample of my aunts; independent,community-minded leaders who insistedon education, hard work and collaborationand on devoting time to empower andbuild communities. One of my great-aunts,Elisa Colberg, was the founder of thePuerto Rican Girl Scouts. Along withher sisters, they were Latinas with bigdreams. I watched them not just talkabout their aspirations, but pursue them.

I’ve found that Comcast is a businessthat embodies many of the same values:encouraging a can-do and entrepreneurialspirit where everyone has a stake inthe success of the company and isencouraged to learn and explore newways of advancing our businesses.Everyone also has permission todream, and is encouraged to make adifference and contribute.

My current role as Executive VicePresident of Hispanic Group atNBCUniversal is just one example ofour commitment to diverse programmingand content. The U.S. Hispanic populationis 54 million, and as a company, it isour responsibility to continuouslyempower our audience, and providethe information and access they needto succeed. With a dedicated Hispanicdivision completely focused on theU.S. Hispanic community, and anunmatched group of entertainmentand information businesses,NBCUniversal has an advantagedposition, reaching more than 90% ofU.S. Hispanics every month. Our goal isto expand the availability of content

and our reach among this communityin Spanish and English, on TV, onlineand across multiple platforms.

From our TV, digital, news, andentertainment assets, to our Xfinitytechnology products, and communityinvestments, we integrate Latinocommunity interests in everything wedo. This year, we’ve launched twoimportant campaigns for the community,Aprender es Triunfar (Learning isSucceeding), aimed at encouragingstudents to pursue education inScience, Technology, Engineering,Arts and Mathematics (STEAM); andPrevenir Es Vivir (Prevention is Life), acomprehensive, health platform thatis geared towards informing, educating and empoweringU.S. Hispanics about howto prevent commonhealth issues.

We are very proudthat LATINA Style hashonored ComcastNBCUniversal asthe “Best Place toWork for Latinas.”I would encourageany Latina interestedin working for amedia and tech-nology leader tojoin our ComcastNBCUniversal family. You will join a companythat truly cares and celebratesyour heritage and community. And most importantly, you will grow and be challenged.

Page 7: 2016 LS50 Program Book

On behalf of the entire Comcast NBCUniversalfamily, I’d like to thank LATINA Style for

naming us Company of the Year for the secondtime in four years.

More than 50 years ago, my father, Ralph Roberts, foundedour company on a few core values. He wanted to build aninviting, inclusive, and respectful workplace that centered onentrepreneurship, yet felt like one big family. He wanted tocreate a place our employees would be proud of, and thatwould delight our customers with products and servicesthat exceeded their expectations.

Diversity and inclusion is among our company’score values, because it helps us achieve our workplacegoals and customer objectives. Everything wecreate is much more informed, and much moreinnovative, because of the richness that diversityand inclusion offers.

We honor my father’s legacy, and best prepareour company for the future, when we embrace thebusiness advantage that Latinas – and every employee ofevery background and experience – bring to workeach day. I am so proud of what our company hasaccomplished, and excited for the journeyahead. We remain firmly committed to ourgoals of delivering the very best inmedia and technology, and tobecoming the model companyfor diversity and inclusion inAmerica. For us, these goalsare firmly intertwined.

Thank you, LATINA Style, for this tremendous honor.
