THE WALKING DEAD (SEASON PREMIERE, AMC, OCT 23) If you thought the long-awaited return of this series would somehow include a fake-out, that one of the familiar characters hadn’t gotten a fatal kiss from a baseball bat called Lucille, think again. There reportedly is, indeed, a death in the opening of tonight’s Season 7 premiere, and it’s going to hurt for a lot of fans, as Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the formidable new archvillain, gives the survivors a violent look at the fate of anyone who does not bend to his will. GHOST HUNTERS (SEASON FINALE, SYFY, OCT. 26) As a museum prepares to open a new exhibit on spiritualism during the Victorian era, its director and a volunteer grow concerned that the presenta- tion might stir up activity by entities from that time period in the season finale “Manor of Mystery.” Rachel Nichols (“Continuum”) and Jonathan Sadowski (“Young & Hungry”) appear as special guest investigators. Immediately follow- ing, the “Paranormal Witness” team becomes trapped in a former hospital build- ing and is violently attacked by the dark forces within in the season finale “The Night Ward.” AMISH WITCHES: THE TRUE STORY OF HOLMES COUNTY (PREMIERE, LIFETIME, OCT. 29) After a reality film crew comes to Holmes County, Ohio, to film a documentary on an isolated Amish sect, production is shut down after an Amish witch is killed, in this new thriller that’s filmed in the “found footage” style of “The Blair Witch Project.” After her funeral, some of her young friends ask the crew to help them document on film the bizarre events that have started to torment them. It soon becomes clear that a malevolent force has truly deadly intentions. THE NIGHT BEFORE HALLOWEEN (PREMIERE, SYFY, OCT. 29) If we’re splitting hairs, this new thriller premieres the night before the night before Halloween, but as they say, that’s close enough for jazz. The story is set into motion after a Halloween prank goes wrong, unleashing a relentless crea- ture that will hunt down all of the participants – unless they can find out how to pass that curse along to someone else. That’s a moral dilemma castmates Bailee Madison and Anthony Lemke never faced in their vastly different roles on Hallmark Channel’s “Good Witch.” KILLJOY’S PSYCHO CIRCUS (PREMIERE, EL REY NETWORK, OCT. 30) Oh, great, as if we didn’t have enough scary clowns popping up in the real world these days! A Kickstarter campaign provided part of the funding for this, the fifth entry in a successful low-budget franchise that finds Trent Vargas tak- ing over the title role of a satanic clown – actually the demon of vengeance – who usually is summoned to help mortals get revenge. In this new 2016 title, Beelzebub (Stephen F. Cardwell) is tasked with bringing Killjoy – whom he let escape from hell – back to his infernal home. HALLOWEEN WARS (SEASON FINALE, FOOD NETWORK, OCT. 30) The five-week competition reaches its suspenseful season finale in the new “Demonic Wedding,” wherein the last two teams – each composed of a pump- kin-carving expert, a cake virtuoso and a sugar artist – face off on a challenge to create a tableau depicting the most terrifying infernal nuptial ceremony they can devise from their fertile imaginations. Actress Bitsie Tulloch (“Grimm”) joins judges Shinmin Li and Don Mancini to determine which of the teams walks away with bragging rights for the season, plus a $50,000 grand prize. Jonathan Bennett is the host. PARANORMAL LOCKDOWN (NEW EPISODE, DESTINATION AMERICA, OCT. 31) In the new two-hour Halloween special “The Black Monk House,” paranormal investigators Katrina Weidman and Nick Groff travel to Yorkshire, England, to launch a special study of the Black Monk House. The two confine themselves in the home for a record-breaking 100 hours to search for evidence that either supports or debunks the site’s long-standing reputation for some of the most violent poltergeist activity ever reported. STAN AGAINST EVIL (NEW EPISODE, IFC, OCT. 31) Dana Gould (“The Simpsons”) is creator, writer and executive producer of this new horror comedy series starring John C. McGinley (“Scrubs”) as Stan Miller, who is peeved to be put out to pasture after years as sheriff of his small New England town. Stan reluctantly teams up with his successor, Evie Barrett (Janet Varney), after discovering their community – the site of a mass witch burning in the 17th century – is being assailed by demons. After this preview, the show moves to its regular Wednesday time period. YOUR HALLOWEEN GUIDE Courtesy of Gracenote 2016 HALLOWEEN GUIDE
