2. Matters arising from minutes
• In 2015, the Chamber made a one-off payment of $20,000 to Activate Tairawhiti. This was to support key strategic regional projects such as the Air New Zealand initiative.
• At 1 January 2016, the Regional Business Partner contract was secured by Activate Tairawhiti, direct with Government (previously subcontracted from the GDC by the Chamber).
• From mid 2015, the Chamber and Activate Tairawhiti have shared office space – the Tairawhiti Business Hub – in order to provide a one stop shop of resources for local businesses.

4. President’s report

2015 activity(networking, advocacy, business training/support)
• Record attendance at several BA5s, such as Heart of Gisborne and Air New Zealand.
• Eastland Group Speaker Series. Wider audience than ever before. Guest speakers: Dame Susan Devoy, Dame Wendy Pye, Vodafone CEO Russell Stanners, Spark CEO Simon Moutter.
• Lobbied government on behalf of the Wa165 steam train; submitted on the council’s long term plan.
• Supported Activate Tairawhiti – Chamber Ex Officio at Board.
– AT recommending Prime site acquisition and WET investment.
• Supported the region’s engagement with and support of Rocket Lab. OrganisedRocket Lab VIP tour.
• Continued involvement in the development of the Air New Zealand initiative with other local stakeholders.
• Awarded contract to run Co.Starters business training programme on behalf of Activate, and successfully delivered first programme.
• Learn Fast Day engaged 40 businesses in a series of 1 hour business training sessions.
• Delivered the Business Mentors programme locally.
• Migration of RBP to Activate Tairawhiti.
• Hosted several Ministers visits.
2016 focus
• Added member benefits, such as new membership cards offering savings on business expenses (going out in May), and new website.
• More advocacy on behalf of members –survey on hot button issues going out to database in next two weeks.
• Chamber consulted on the regional economic development plan delivered to government.
• Chamber continuing to work with Activate, Tourism Eastland, GDC and other stakeholders on Air New Zealand regional initiative.
• Speaker Series speakers incl The Icehouse’s Michaela Vodanovich; Maori Tourism CEO Pania Tyson Nathan; minister Paula Bennett.
• Co.Starters programmes continuing this year – second one currently underway.
• Lunchtime Learning - “The Cloud” held in February. Upcoming workshops include Health & Safety, Facebook, Learn Fast Day.
• Chamber is delivering the Young Enterprise Scheme, with ECT sponsorship.

• We have 11 Executive nominations. (Last year approved a total of 12.)
• Propose special motion to vote all nominees on to the executive.
• Sector reps (if any) to be decided at next executive meeting to reflect any further mix required.
• Our thanks to Trevor Helson, who stepped down as president in 2015.
• Also our thanks to Suzanne Winterflood, stepping down tomorrow, but agreed to join Executive.
