Georgia Bowl Leaders Georgia will be making its 51st appearance in a bowl game when it faces Penn State in the TaxSlayer Bowl. Bryan McClendon will serve as interim head coach for the Bulldogs in the bowl game. This sea-son, McClendon served as an assistant head coach in charge of wide receivers, as well as passing game coordinator. McClendon is in his seventh season coaching for Georgia after he suited up for the Bulldogs as a receiver from 2002-05. Kirby Smart, who was the Alabama defensive coordinator, was named Geor-gias new head coach on Dec. 6. He will join the Bulldogs full-time after the Crimson Tides season is complete. The Bulldogs sport a bowl record of 28-19-3, and the 28 wins is tied for third most nationally (Penn State, Oklahoma) while the 51 appearances ranks fourth. Also, Georgia will be playing in a bowl game for a school record 19th consecutive season and that is the third longest active streak, trailing only Florida State (34) and Virginia Tech (23). Last season in the Belk Bowl, then #13 Georgia topped #20 Louisville 37-14 in Charlotte, N.C. This year, the Bulldogs will take on Penn State at the Taxslayer Bowl for only the second time in school history. In a national championship battle at the 1983 Sugar Bowl between the nations two top-ranked teams, the second-ranked Nittany Lions held off top-ranked Georgia 27-23 to spoil the Bulldogs chance at a second national title in three years and another perfect season.

Bowl History In Jacksonville Georgia is 2-1-1 in previous trips to Jacksonville for the Taxslayer or Gator bowls. The Bulldogs last appearance came on Jan. 1, 2014, and they dropped a 24-19 decision to Nebraska to finish the season 8-5 under Mark Richt. Georgias other appearances in Jacksonville came in 1989 in legendary coach Vince Dooleys final game. The 19th-ranked Bulldogs defeated Michigan State 34-27 to finish the season 9-3. Georgias first time at the Gator Bowl came on Jan. 1, 1948, and the Bulldogs tied Maryland 20-20 to conclude the campaign 7-4-1 under Wallace Butts. On Dec. 31, 1971, sixth-ranked Georgia edged unranked North Carolina 7-3 to cap an 11-1 season under Dooley. In school history, Georgia is 43-40-1 in Jacksonville. Senior starters John (OT) and Nathan (SN) Theus are Jacksonville natives and will serve as captains in their last collegiate game. The Bulldogs first played SEC rival Florida in Jacksonville in 1915 and recorded a 39-0 shutout. Since 1933, the Bulldogs annually play the Gators in Jacksonville (only exceptions came in 1994-95 when the game moved on each campus due to renovations to the Gator Bowl).Seniors Aim For 40th Career Win The Bulldog senior class of 2015 enters the Taxslayer Bowl with a 39-13 overall record. The seniors will be looking to win 10 games in a season for a third time in their career. They will be aiming to become the 22nd team in school history to reach double-digit wins in a season. Offensively, Georgia is led by senior receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who has 53 catches for 751 yards and four touchdowns. In his career he ranks third in school history with 169 receptions and is seventh in receiving yards with 2,236. In the backfield, sophomore Sony Michel became the 13th Bulldog to rush for at least 1,000 yards (1,076 yds./199 att.) in a season during the win over Georgia Tech on Nov. 28. Junior Greyson Lambert directs the offense and has a 64.4 completion percentage and is on pace to set the school record for fewest interceptions in a season with just two in 236 attempts. Defensively, the Bulldogs are led by senior ILB Jake Ganus, who has a team-high 96 tackles, while sophomore DB Dominick Sanders has five interceptions for a school record 205 return yards. Also, junior OLB Leonard Floyd, a Butkus Award finalist, and senior OLB Jordan Jenkins are projected as premium picks in the NFL Draft. Floyd ranks second on the team in tackles with 68 and a team-high 4.5 sacks. They share the team lead with 10.5 TFLs and Jenkins is fourth on the squad with 56 stops.

Mitchell, a 6-1, 195-pound native of Valdosta, Ga., was one of 11 players from the NCAA FBS selected based on their commitment to community service. Georgia leads the nation in Allstate AFCA Good Works team honorees with 16 (10 in the Mark Richt era) since the awards inception in 1992. Also, senior ILB Jake Ganus was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. In addition, junior OLB Leonard Floyd was one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, which is given annually to the nations top collegiate linebacker. Junior QB Greyson Lambert was named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week following his performance in the 52-20 win over South Carolina. Lambert went 24-for-25 (an SEC and NCAA record 96 percent) for a career-high 330 yards and three touchdowns, which matched his career high. He completed 20 passes in a row to end the contest, which topped a Bulldog record of 19 set by Mike Bobo at the 1998 Outback Bowl. Lambert connected with nine different receivers in his third game with Georgia after transferring from Virginia.
