Hawkeye Community College

Now is the time to prepare for the annual Merit Badge College hosted by Hawkeye

Community College. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 5.

We will be conducting registration online this year. You can access the event on the

Winnebago website calendar or through the following address:

http://www.winnebagobsa.org/Event.aspx?id=2335. Registering online will immediately

allow you to know which courses your Scouts will be taking. If you haven't already done so,

you will need to set up a MyCouncil account in order to access the registration program.

You can edit your unit and scout registration through your unit page under "Registrations."

Please let us know if you have any questions!

The cost for this year’s merit badge college will be a flat rate fee of $20 for Scouts. There

will be a $10 fee per unit, which will include the cost for two leaders. Additional adults will

be charged $5. All who plan to attend must be registered. For the safety of the Scouts,

those who are not registered will be asked to leave. Please note that there may be some

extra class fees as well. To help your boys be successful, please let them know that the

prerequisites should be completed before the day of the Merit Badge College. We will

NOT take a Scout’s word that he has already done the work. Boys should not expect to

receive a completed blue card if they are not participating in class! Also, please realize

that there are some badges that may not be completed the day of the event. Important

skills are often taught during the class and to expect the boys to do major projects without

the knowledge is not in the interest of the boys and their learning.

Prerequisites: Fee is $15 per person, adults are encouraged to participate as well. The cost is to help us off-set the cost of the flights where the boys will fly high performance airplanes, TB21, Cirrus, and others depending on the number of scouts; 3. Pre-work is to construct and bring to the class an FPG-9, (foam airplane cut out of a foam plate as shown in the merit badge book or can be found on-line).

Special Notes: We will need help transporting boys to the airport for this merit badge. At the airport, the boys will get to do the airplane pre-check as well as a flight, weather permitting. A flight fee will be assessed for all boys and adults who fly. Boys may want to bring a book to read while waiting before and after their flights.

The other four books are your choice. 1d. Keep a log of your reading that includes the title of the book, the pages or chapter read, the date you completed them, and your thoughts about what you have read. Bring this log to class. 2. Bring a signed permission form to use the Internet at Hawkeye Community College. 4. With parent's permission, choose ONE of the activites and devote at least 4 hours of service to that activity.
