November 11-12, 2016Since we incorporated auctions into our business in the spring of 2015, Colonial Acres has been astounded by the feedback that we have been receiving from consignors and participants alike. Each time we succeed in producing a consignor the right price for their consign-ments, we feel a sense of pride, knowing that we could make someone happy. As well, when a participant manages to win the item that they may have been battling over for some time, we mutally cheer at the participant, and hope that they are pleased with their purchase.

This rare Civil War era coin collection comprises three large Seated Liberty half dollars all struck at the New Orleans Mint by three different governments — the United States, the State of Louisiana and the Confederate States of America — all having operated the mint at one point during the first year of the Civil War. The coins in this historic collec-tion have the extra pedigree of being part of the largest treasure trove of U.S. coins in history. 51,000 coins and over 14,000 artifacts were recov-ered from the SS Republic shipwreck, a Civil War-era side-wheel steamship en route from New York to New Orleans that sank in 1865 after bat-tling a hurricane for two days. This set also includes the 1853-1865 SS Republic Odyssey Marine Exploration CD, a National Geographic magazine covering the treasures from the civil war wreck and the Pritt J. Vesilind Book “Lost gold of the republic, the remarkable quest for the greatest shipwreck treasure of the civil war era”.($1,449) ........................ $3,500
27. 1859-O S.S. Republic Seated Liberty
NGC certified Half Dollar; Shipwreck Effect. Bound for New York With pas-sengers and commercial cargo, the side-wheel steamship SS Republic was lost in a violent hurricane on October 25, 1865. In August 2003, Odessy located the Shipwreck at a depth of approximately 1,700 feet in the Atlantic Ocean about 100 miles east of Savannah, Georgia. During the Archaeological Excavation of the site, coins were picked up individually by the remotely operated vehicle “Zeus” with a delicate silicone limpet to pro-tect the coin’s surface. Each coin was carefully conserved and encased in a tamper-resistant holder with a unique bar-coded label from NGC. This coin comes displayed in a stunning wooden display box with certificate of Authentication.($675) .............................. $1,500
28. United States 1860-O S.S. Republic
U.S. Mint Issue Seated Liberty NGC Certified Half Dollar; Shipwreck Effect. This coin was minted at the New Orleans Mint in Louisiana, which was the only Southern Mint to survive the Civil War. The Dahlonega and Charlotte Mints ceased production of coins in 1861 when the States of Georgia and North Carolina left the Union and joined the Confederacy. They never minted coins again. This silver coin has been authenticated and certified with a Shipwreck Effect by NGC and comes display in a Deluxe wooden display with its certificate of Authentication.($499) ............................. $1,000
