YOU
Annual Report 2016
Dear Friends,
Thank you for making 2016 a remarkable year for the
Illinois Center for Autism! This year marked 39 years of
service for our organization. Despite the tough fiscal
climate in our state, our dedicated staff with your support
have continued helping each individual we serve to become
as independent as possible in their community.
A few highlights include:
· Two adult clients received awards for 25 years of service in their
jobs with one of our community employers
· Setting up two greenhouses at the Fairview Heights campus
· Receiving our license from Department of Human Services for our
Developmental Training Program
· Provided over 190,500 hours of service
· Added a sensory room at our elementary campus
· Initiated PEAK evaluation & curriculum for all students
· Entire wish tree adopted by J.W. Terrill in December 2015
· Gateway Grizzles offered batting practice to our students
· Created Illinois Center for Autism Endowment Fund
As we move forward in 2017, I am excited about our future. I
truly appreciate the way each of you support our mission,
our vision and our cause. Thank you for wholeheartedly
being a partner with the Illinois Center for Autism.
Sincerely,
Executive Director
To educate and
serve children and
adults with autism
to achieve their
highest level of
independence in
their home, school
and community.
We believe that each individual is unique and defined by possibilities and not
limitations. Individuals have the right to education, training and/or services
specifically designed to meet his/her needs in the least restrictive
environment through the use of:
Innovative, research based methods and practices
An interactive and engaging atmosphere
Advocacy and choice to promote self-sufficiency and lifelong independence
A positive approach to maladaptive behaviors
Customized support services and training offered to
individuals, families and the community
Services provided by qualified staff who receive ongoing,
specialized training
The Illinois Center for Autism’s Special Day School program seeks to improve the lives of
children from the ages of 3 to the day before their 22nd birthday.
We do this utilizing an elementary campus in Belleville, Illinois, an adolescent campus in
Fairview Heights, Illinois and four satellite classrooms within one of the 34 school
districts that we serve.
We are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education offering year round
educational programming to students between the ages of 3 and 21 diagnosed with
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), cognitive disabilities, specific learning disabilities,
speech-language impairments, emotional
disabilities, other health impairments and
developmental delays.
Our School Program emphasizes the practical
use of functional academics, independence and
self-sufficiency in everyday living, spontaneity
in communication, and self control for all
students.
In our 2015-16 school year, our students
improved their attendance. Out of 137 students,
121 were in attendance 88% of the school year. Our goal was 75%.
ICA ‘s Adult Services is an approved Developmental Training (DT) and Supported Employment Program (SEP) provider for the Illinois Department of Human Services. Developmental Training (DT) is a program of day habilitation that focuses on the development of and enhancement of daily adaptive living skills and economic self-sufficiency for individuals who require more intensive support and structure. The SEP program provides the necessary support and services to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to work for compensation in a variety of community-integrated work environments in which persons without disabilities are also employed. Our innovative model includes the development of a meal service system for students in ICA’s school program which is operated by our Adult Services. Adult clients began preparing and delivering breakfast and lunch to all students at the Belleville & Fairview campuses in 2014 and the program continues to be highly successful today.

SERVICE
DHS/OIG
Client/Family Support Services are available to assist families in crisis. Crisis situations for families vary depending on the individual’s needs and the family’s resources. CFS links families to support services and helps them to navigate the network of resources available in the community - DHS- IL Department of Human Services,
SASS-Screening, Assessment and Support Services,
OIG- Office of Inspector General.
CFS helps families to develop in-home strategies to support their family member with ASD. CFS connects families to funding sources, crisis prevention specialists and other service providers. Support Services Team - SST will provide interdisciplinary technical assistance and training to persons with developmental disabilities in a medical or behavioral situation that challenges their ability to live and thrive in the community (observe, assess, evaluate and consult). Our social and life skills courses provide opportunities to learn and increase communications, relationships and problem solving skills for individuals with Asperger’s and high functioning autism, while our Social Skills clubs provide practical application.

Current Strategic Plan is through June 30, 2017. As an extension of our strategic plan, direct care staff, supervisors and board members participated in a visioning/planning project looking to identify key areas for improvement related to people. Our Olin Board Fellow will be coordinating our efforts to update the plan as his project.
