REFLECTION Prayer Dear God, Thankyou for our legs, as we pilgrimage through life. Thankyou for our hands, as we wield bread and knife. Thank you for our bodies As we see our children grow. Thank you for our faces, In them the Christ we know. Thank you for our eyes, As we wonder at creation. Thank you for our hearts As we accept your salvation. Amen PRINCIPAL’S REPORT To the wonderful community of All Saints’, One long weekend down; one more to go! ANZAC DAY Thank you to all those parents, and family members, who climbed out of bed early Monday morning to enable their daughter or son to participate in the Dawn Service. It was a very proud moment to see them up there ready to sing. (With microphones next year, those who gather for the Service will be better able to hear them.) Special thanks to Mrs Caryn Eastman for making the arrangements with the RSL to allow the choir to participate in the Service. Well done and thank you! Thank you also to the staff and students who participated in the 11am Parade. Once again it was a very impressive sight to see so many members of our school community wanting to honour the memory of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend! Thank you to our School Captains who placed a ‘gift’ at the base of the Monument on behalf of our school. Site blessing of McAuley College (new secondary school in Beaudesert) Last Friday, our two School Captains and 3 of our House Captains, accompanied Mrs Wilson (a member of the Steering Committee) and I to Beaudesert to participate in a ‘site blessing ceremony’ for the new Catholic Secondary College: McAuley College. I want to congratulate the five student leaders for their service to the invited guests at this ceremony. Our students stood back and waited until all other guests were seated, before taking a seat themselves. At the end of the ceremony they took the platters of food around, ensuring that adult guests were fed first before themselves. Congratulations and thank you to the following student leaders of our school: School Captains: Anna B and Ben H House Captains: Kate Mc, Phoebe V and Jack W. Jayden T was unfortunately unable to attend. They have done themselves, their parents and the school proud! Email Communication with Staff I am very aware that email is a very convenient and direct method of communication with the school and with individual teachers. Please be aware that Teachers and Office Staff do not always have the opportunity to read emails throughout the day so please allow at least 24 hours before a response is made. Emergency notices should be made through a direct call to the office or in person. APRE Review To those parents/guardians who completed the survey form for Mrs Douglas, I thank you for providing this valuable feedback. Your time and involvement is very much appreciated. ALL SAINTS’ SCHOOL

Educational Trip to New Zealand Over the past few years, Brisbane Catholic Education has been leading and challenging schools to engage in an educational journey with a particular focus. That focus involves: gathering and analysing data in a more deliberate manner; engaging students in a discussion about their learning; making learning intentions and success criteria visible to students. A country that has embodied this ‘visible’ approach to student learning is New Zealand. Brisbane Catholic Education has organised an educational journey to Auckland to enable teachers to experience firsthand how some schools have improved their educational results by engaging in this approach. Two staff members, Mrs Neuendorf and Mrs Persson, have been selected to participate in this trip. They will be absent from school from Sunday May 8 until Monday May 16. Term Calendar Please find attached this term’s calendar. Whilst a number of events have been marked on the calendar, please check the weekly newsletter to ensure that any updates or changes are noted.

APRE REPORT

Assembly

On Tuesday, the normal afternoon assembly was

replaced with an ANZAC liturgy in the morning.

Mr Frank Reid addressed the students and spoke

about the values of mateship, respect and loyalty

shown by those at Anzac Cove and asked that the

students take on these same values as they travel

through life. I wish to congratulate the students for

their most respectful and attentive behaviour during

the liturgy. And a big thank you also to all the

liturgy helpers.

Church Season 5th

Sunday of Easter

Last Sunday was the 5th

Sunday of the Easter

Season. In the Gospel reading from John, we hear

Jesus telling the disciples that they must love one

another as he has loved them. This command is

both new and old. It is old in that it is said in the

Old Testament (Leviticus ‘love one’s neighbour as

one’s self’) and new in that this love characterizes

the new life inaugurated by Jesus and is proof of

one’s love for God. Jesus’ new commandment calls

for love without limits, conditions, or prerequisites.

This love opens our eyes to facts that we might

otherwise overlook: that the poor in the world

belong to our family; that those who live in despair

might be saved by our care of them; that peace can

come to the world through our efforts. www.radiovaticana.va

Sacramental Program

Towards the end of this semester, notes will be sent

home in relation to the Confirmation Sacramental

program to be held in Term 3. In line with the new

Brisbane Archdiocesan Guidelines, Catholic

children who are in Year 3 and above are eligible to

take part.

McAuley College Beaudesert

McCauley College now has a shop front open in

Beaudesert where enquiries for enrolment for 2017

and beyond can be directed.

Just a thought... You should not confuse your career with your life.

P&F NEWS

P&F Meeting The P&F General Meeting was held on Wednesday, 20 March. The following items discussed included:

Mothers’ Day stall – coordination and volunteers.

Boonah Show Gates – staffing the gates will again be offered as a fundraising opportunity We will notify families shortly to start planning for this event.

Fete 2016 Purchase of school printer/photocopier At the end of 2015 it was clear that the printer/photocopier in the office needed replacing. In the past the P&F has contributed funds for the purchase of photocopiers/printers. The P&F originally set aside $5,000 in a term deposit in 2012 and added $1,000 to this each year. This meant that we had the funds to contribute over $7,900 in funds to the purchase of a new photocopier/printer at the end of 2015. This is one way that the school uses the funds raised through our fundraising activities. So thank you to all those volunteers who’ve helped out with our many fundraising activities. This is part of your contribution. If you have any P&F matters you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to send Andrew Conway an email.

Thank you. Andrew Conway P&F President [email protected]

CHOIR CORNER

Congratulations to the All Saint’s choir for a fantastic

performance at the Boonah ANZAC Day Dawn service.

13 of our members woke up bright and early to be at the

service at 4am to sing. We have been invited back to do

this event again in 2017. Thank you to these students

and their families and also to the teachers that were there

to support us.

We are now learning new songs for a performance at

Blue Care and also practising the National Anthem to

sing at Queensland Day celebrations at Templin Village

Museum on the 5th of June. So, lots of exciting events to

look forward to.

Students in Grade 3 to 6 are welcome to join the choir

and new members are invited to do a four week trial to

see how they like being in choir. Forms are available

from the office or Mrs Eastman.
