Senior Regents Message Happy New Years! As the new year is here I would like to reiterate that our Wednesday night meet-ings are every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm. I would still like to see more members coming to the meet-ings to help support the Women’s efforts to help our seniors at Moosehaven, our chil-dren in Mooseheart, and the people of our community. As always in January, the mid-year conference will be Jan 18 through Jan 21. I would like to see as many of our members there as possible though I know some won’t come due to the possibility of snow storms keeping us in Norfolk. On Jan 21 our new Academy of Friendship girls will be recognized. I would like to personal-ly congratulate Gloria Olinger, Beverly Daniels, and Myself for this award and to thank them for their contributions to our efforts. I hope everyone has a great new year!

Governors Message Bye Bye 17 and Hello 2018!! What a year we've had! And this year is going to be even better! Our team has really accomplished some great things and have even more planned for this year. As a few examples, check out the posters in the Lodge lob-by. But don't let a few make all the suggestions and decisions. Give us your ideas. We're really looking for some popular, unique and great ideas and you probably have some. As always we are looking for those who are interest-ed in contributing to making our lodge a better, funner & more exciting place. Volunteer a few hours, ask to chair an idea or special project, move up to the next level by joining the Moose Legion, or consider joining the Board of Officers. If you don't have time to volun-teer, consider supporting in another way by joining Moose' Charities; Ring of Donors, M & M Club or see more options by going to the link below and contrib-uting as little as $10 a month. www.MooseCharities.org This year I would like for us to continue to make our Lodge a more diverse home with more venues for the younger and older members, family friendly events, opportunities to invite a friend, and some unique events just for the fun of it. Already scheduled for this year is the Moose Legion Mid-Year starting Jan. 18-21, the Moose International Convention in New Orleans from Wednesday, July 11 - Sunday July 15th, 2018. We have bands like (names and dates) & we're looking at even more fun activities and events. Watch the calendars in the Moose Newsletter, Online Calendar & consider enrol-ling in the text alert notifications. Thank you for all that you do for continuing to being a part of our Moose Family.

Fraternally, Brian Carpenter, Governor

Administrator s Message Welcome 2018!. So many possibilities lie before us, as members and as a lodge. One thing that Hopewell Moose Lodge has proven over the years, is that we care about our community, our children and our seniors. The times may change, people will come and go but these 3 things will always be the staple of the Hopewell Moose Lodge. I encourage you to tell your friends about what we do. Invite them to an event, share a newsletter or tell them about our Facebook page. In the future, you will see some renovations and some repairs, as we try to update our appearance and operate more efficiently. Thank you for your continued membership and we look forward to sharing the new year together. Brad Ozmore, Administrator

What is the Donors Circle? The Donors Circle is dedicated donors who provide a dependable monthly source of funding to help the children at Mooseheart Child City, the senior residents at Moosehaven retire-ment community, or the Endowment Fund's recognition program. When you choose to set up a monthly gift for as little as $10.00 (or more) per month, you can join the dedicated donors of the m+m club. Your monthly gift will be put to work in many ways. - Provide training for Family Teachers at Mooseheart - Help senior residents at Moose-haven receive services - Allow for healthy eating options for Mooseheart children - And many more Monthly giving is a convenient and depend-able way to provide for Mooseheart and/or Moosehaven. It can also help you reach your next level of giving to the Donors Cir-cle.

Jack Olinger, Moose Charities Chairman

Well, it's a new world... Your Governor turned 50 and I got my AARP Card!! Although I still hit the gym most days, work to much and have as much fun as I can handle, but I've also noticed the effects take a bit longer to rebound from. But in addition to the fun, I've had a few eye opening conversations. One that really caught my at-tention was an article that appeared in a recent publica-tion. I want to share with you some information about the fraud primarily effecting our Veterans. These scams are targeting things like; Benefits Buyouts, Investments / Pension, Veterans Choice Program, Iden-tity Theft, GI Bill education benefits, and Veteran dis-count programs, just to name a few but there are many more. I know our Veterans are worthy of anything we can do to give back, so I STRONGLY encourage you to view the articles below for more information for you, your loved ones and/or your neighbors, and it's not just Vet-erans being targeted. See a printable PDF format, here; action.aarp.org/site/DocServer/Watchdog-Alert-Handbook-Veterans-Edition.pdf?docID=3601 See additional Scam Alert info, here; action.aarp.org/site/SPageNavigator/FWN_OperationProtectVeterans.html?CMP=RDRCT-CSN-FRAUD-091117 Most respectfully,

Fraternally, Brian Carpenter, Governor

MOOSE LEGION We had our “Silent Auction” during the volunteer’s dinner on December 2nd and things went really good. We received good bids on all our items, so the Moose Legion will be able to contribute to a few deserving charities with our prof-its from the auction. Thanks to everyone who donat-ed items and to all the bidders on our items! Don’t forget our Winter Celebration near Virginia Beach in early February. Our next meeting will be on January 4th , 2018 and we hope to see a lot of the legionnaires and their guest at the meeting. Remember, we provide a free dinner and drinks to everyone at the Moose Le-gion meeting. We are always looking for members to become part of the Moose Legion Degree, so come join in on the fun!

Marvin Nester, Moose Legion Chairman

Golf News OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!!!! Hopewell is hosting the “Massey Cancer Golf Tournament” this year, and we are looking for volunteers to help with this event. You do not need to be a golfer to volunteer. Dates released in the Feb-

ruary Newsletter and posted on the lodge Bulletin Board. One of the biggest benefactors of the Virginia Moose Association, other than Mooseheart and Moosehaven, is the Virginia Commonwealth University's Massey Cancer Center in Richmond Virginia. The Hopewell Moose Lodge invites all to the VCU Massey Cancer Center Golf Tour-nament to be held in late spring 2018 at a local Golf Club in the Tri-cities. The day will have many activities including a putting contest, a closest to pin contest, a longest drive contest, a fifty/fifty raffle, and more. We are currently looking for hole sponsors to help in adding prizes for the contest and dona-tions to go to the VCU Massey Cancer Center. To sponsor a hole, please see the links be-low. We really appreciate any and all help we can get. We hope to see you all for a fun day of golfing! Hopewell will also host the Moose State Golf Tournament this year. For more “Golf News”, please remember to read your Lodge Bulletin Boards.
