The North Park women’s basketball team returns home to host the second annual NPU Invite Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend.

The Vikings are looking to improve on last season’s tournament record where they finished with an 0-2 mark after losing two close games with Denison University, a 63-58 overtime thriller, and a 73-64 setback to

Wartburg College in the third place game.

Denison University won the tournament championship, holding off a feisty Elmhurst College squad 48-44 in the final. Current senior Liz Rehberger (above) earned all-tournament team honors for the Vikings and Denison’s Jordan Holmes won the tournament MVP award as she set a North Park Gymnasium record of 13 blocked shots in a game.

Rehberger recently broke the 1,000th-point mark of her career in an 84-38 victory over St. Mary’s College of Indiana in the Vikes’ season opener Nov. 15. The First Team All-CCIW selection and D3Hoops.com All-Central Region pick (2015-16) became the first NPU women’s basketball player to do so since current associate head coach Lauren Rosengarden accomplished the feat in her four-year career from 2003-2007 as well as cur-rent North Park Hall of Fame Inductees Laura Mount (C’2007) and Megan Slattery Nikiel (C’2006).

The Vikings welcome Manchester University and the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, both members of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, as well as fellow College Conference of Illinois and Wis-consin opponent North Central Col-lege to this week-end’s tournament.
