Iceland has a plate that runs right through it

so they have lots of earthquakes and

volcanoes.

I chose Iceland because it has lots of interesting natural disasters.

• Eyjafjallajökull

Eyjafjallajökull is a currently active volcano in Iceland.

In translation, Eyjafjallajökull means Eyja (island) fjalla (mountain)

jokull (glacier). It is called Eyja for short.

The summit of Eyja is 5,466 feet.

Eyja is currently erupting and its last eruption was from 1821 to

1823.

Eyja’s current volcanic activity caused a total shut down of

airspace over many European nations for 5 days and is believed to

have caused the largest financial loss in the air travel industries

history.

Eyja is located just west of volcano Katla. Katla is even larger and

more powerful than Eyja.

Eyja’s eruptions in 1821 to 1823 caused fluoride poisoning to many

farm animals

A lot of people in many countries are affected by Icelandic volcanic eruptions. The ash sometimes causes problems and stops air traffic, which affects passengers. The ash can cause problems to people who have respiratory illnesses or heart disease, so people with such illnesses have had to be careful to not be outside much.

geysergeyser• It is from The Great Geysir of Iceland, which

first erupted in the 14th century, that the world's geysers take their name. It used to erupt every 60 minutes until the early 1900s when it became dormant. Earthquakes in June 2000 subsequently reawakened the giant and it now erupts approximately every 8 to 10 hours.

• The second most famous geyser in Iceland is Strokkur, which erupts every 8 minutes throwing a column of water and steam to a height of 20 metres or so. There are also several other smaller ones.

• Geysers are found in active volcanic areas or land that is prone to earthquakes. Thermal or hot springs are also a feature, as are boiling mud pools, often appreciated for their medicinal qualities.
