The Outlook

Glenn’s Corner

Karen and I just celebrated our anniversary on June 14th. 29 years and it seems like only yesterday we were standing at the alter making a commitment for the rest of our lives. When you are that young you can’t possibly fathom 30 years down the road and being 50. I feel the tension and unrest in our world at this point. At the top of the list is the family and it is constantly under attack. Our society is no longer a “Leave it to Beaver” society. We have all kinds of families now. As a church we must figure out how to train and teach our families to grow in Christ together no matter the hurdles they must overcome. Our society has lost the work together attitude sometimes and would rather pay someone to do or teach their children what to do. As a church member or non church member we value the service and help you provide on a monthly basis. Without you our church family simply could not get done. We can not just pay to have everything done. Sometimes we forget that the church is only as good as the people who put their time here. If you choose not to serve or participate sometimes the job or activity will not happen. I look at VBS and all the hands that pulled together to make that a great success. The children had a blast!! Peter could not have done it alone. And we reached some children and families that may not have a church home. Our goal here at First Christian is to provide your family opportunities to serve and use your talents for the Kingdom of God. If there is no task here at the church then we want to help you find somewhere in the community where you can use those talents to make a difference for Christ. Impacting our community for Christ is the backbone and center of what our mission is here on this earth. If you want to learn more see Peter, Lucas or Glenn, or you can talk to one of the leadership team of Elders and Deacons, and they will help you get involved. Love in Christ, Glenn

Luke’s Letter to the Flock It’s HOT yall! But that has not stopped us yet this summer and I don’t intend on that changing for the next few months. God has so much in store for our Student Ministry in July and August and I want you all involved! I want to send a special thank you to all the adults and sponsors who helped out over the past two months. Our busy summer schedule got underway and you all have been wonderful at helping out and having a hand in God’s plan for these students. We had some big events: Yard Sale, Muffins with Mom, YAC at the Fisher’s, Graduate Sunday, the Carowinds trip, Doughnuts with Dads, and much more. I can’t say thank you enough for all your love and support thus far through the summer! In July we have MS and HS camp at Park Springs, we have our Mission Trip to Spencer, New York and some other great things in between. In August we have lots of events for both MS and HS students and to sum it all up on August 23 we have Youth Sunday. Please be in constant prayer for these events! God has some awesome things planned for the next few months and I don’t want you to miss out!

CHILDREN’S Corner from Peter Folks I just want to thank you for helping me kick the summer off with an awesome VBS. I appreciate how you folks are always willing to help invest in the lives of our children and families here at First Christian. A huge congratulations to you kids, you have made it through another school year. I hope you're ready for a fun summer with your church family. We've got some cost efficient and great Super Tuesday's planned as well as other exciting events this summer. Make sure to pick up your summer calendars at the infor-mation center and also pay attention to your bulletins and Sunday post cards. Families I also want to encourage you to sign up for our 101 remind in order for you to receive last-minute information about different children's ministry events. 101 is a free service to you and to the church. It is very simple to subscribe: You will need to send a text message to 919-948-7161 and the message needs to be: @53bb2 Once you send the message, you will quickly get a message back asking what your name is (please use first and last name). Campus Christian

Fellowship ASU / ECU / NCSU / UNC / UNC-W

This is College. Day after day you take your spot in cramped classrooms and brush elbows in hallways with hundreds of students just like you, but crucially different in a big way – they don’t know Jesus. The temptation to settle into a typical college lifestyle is strong, but late night parties and tales of empty pleasure don’t ring true in the heart of a child of God.

Instead, you feel a call to something greater - a call to growth and service to your Creator and the need is so obvious. It stares at you from behind the faces of lost students and atheist teachers; it’s on city streets where the homeless have become hopeless; it’s in the ringing call of a savior who tells us, “’You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as your-self.” (Matt 22:37-39)

Answer the call. Become active in a body of students who are following Christ and you will see yourself and your world change in ways you can’t imagine. Campus Christian Fellowship exists to take you on that journey. Things are different here. Lives take shape here. Your heart and your efforts are needed to make an impact for the Kingdom of God.
