WELCOME NOTE

Irish Association ofCorporate Treasurers

Contactwww.treasurers.ie

It is my great pleasure to introduce the programme of the 2015 Annual Conference of the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers to you. I am excited about all the content we have on offer for you today, as we are looking forward to bringing you up to date on all the topical treasury challenges facing you and your organisations, including a careful examination of Currency Wars, Commodity Trading, Sanctions, Regulatory Changes, Treasury Technology, the retrenchment of banking services, BEPS and relevance of credit ratings.

Often the pace of change seems relentless, with little opportunity to sit back and reflect, so today we will explore some of these developments in more depth. Regulation remains a key theme that we have already seen impacting corporates through EMIR, but banks have now also started to react and make strategic changes in what products and services they wish to offer and where in the world they want to operate. Emerging market countries have seen their currencies devalue sharply. Financing structures and interest deductions are under increasing scrutiny by tax authorities as a result of the OECD’s BEPS initiative.

So, how does all this impact the corporate treasurer? We look forward to hearing about these themes from our specialist speakers today, but also from treasurers themselves. In our Treasurers’ Opinion discussion we will hear from the Treasurers of Coca-Cola, Aer Lingus and Board Na Mona about the key issues they face.

As IACT education and continuing professional development are key elements of our mission statement, we see our Annual Conference as an important vehicle for delivery of these objectives. Typically, corporate treasury departments are small in terms of staff numbers, but large with respect to corporate responsibilities. It is therefore imperative for corporate treasurers to have an active network of peers. At IACT we care deeply about fostering this network and we have put a lot of effort into this in 2015. Without going into a review of the year’s events, please allow me to highlight a few.

This year we have started bringing smaller groups of treasury practitioners together for breakfast round-table sessions, where discussion and exchange of ideas can take place on the basis of a presentation by the host treasurer.

WELCOME NOTE

In June, we had a very successful annual golf day, where this year we changed the format for the more experienced golfers and also added a special golf session for novices.Similarly, our Annual Conference is another opportunity to reconnect with our friends and colleagues in the treasury community. We are fortunate that we have such a close-knit treasury community in Ireland. During this year of my presidency I have regularly heard people commenting on how tightly networked the Irish corporate treasury community is.

The content we have on offer for you today is the fruit of the collective preparation of our IACT Conference Committee and our conference organiser Summit Focus. Preparations for next year’s conference will likely commence during
