50% of the homeless population are families*

* “Family” is defined as one adult and one child under the age of 18.

1 out of every 4 homeless individuals is a child under the age of 18

How many face homelessness?

800 families are homeless statewide.

On O‘ahu, the number of homeless families remains unchanged.

Who are they?

The average family is made up of 4 individuals with 2 being parents.

1 in 3 families are Native Hawaiian.

1 in 3 families are Micronesian.

1 in 3 families have lived in Hawai‘i for less than one year.

1 in 3 families have lived in Hawai‘i for over 20 years.

Where are they?

Nearly 3 out of 4 homeless families are on

O‘ahu.

4 out of 5 families are in shelters.

On any given night in

Hawai‘i, 1 in 200 people are homeless. There are over 7,600 homeless individuals.

But, nearly 1 in 100 or over 14,200 people access homeless services sometime during the year.
