GrewmembershipinWomenInBusinessby68%in2015.Thisdynamicprogramcontinuestoprovideleadershipdevelopment,networkingopportunities,referrals,andmeaningfulinformationspecificallyforwomen.• Hostedfourquarterlyluncheonsandfoursocials,includingagolfsocialatMonroeCountryClubGolfCourse.• CreatedanewprofessionaldevelopmenteventfeaturingkeynotespeakerMollyBarker(founderofGirlsontheRun),andfourdynamicwomenspeakersfromacrossthestate.Thisuniqueeventhadover140womeninattendancefromacrossourregion.

• HostedafallfashionshowfeaturingWomenInBusinessmembersasmodels.Thefashionshowhighlightedwomen’sclothingfromthefashionicon,Belk,aswellaslocally-ownedmemberstoresinUnionCounty.ThefashionshowwasajointeffortoftheWomeninBusinessprogramandtheChamber’s“ShopUnionCounty”program.

3. AspartofthePublicPolicyprogram,theUnionCountyChamber:• HostedaGovernmentAffairsluncheoninMarchfeaturingUnionCountyManagerCindyCototoprovidea“StateofUnionCounty”toChambermembersandguests.

• HostedaGovernmentAffairsluncheoninOctoberfeaturingmembersoftheUnionCountyDelegationfromRaleigh.StaterepresentativesDeanArp,CraigHorn,andMarkBrodygaveupdatesfromthe2015legislativesessionandprovidedinsighttoupcominglegislativeissuesaffectingUnionCountybusinesses.

4. TheChambercontinuedtoleadtheefforttosupporttheconstructionoftheEast-WestConnectorknownastheMonroeExpressway.ThisimportanttransportationprojectwillbenefitnotonlyUnionCountybutthesurroundingregion.

5. HostedaNonprofitShowcaseBusinessNetworkingLuncheonwiththelargestattendanceinthehistoryofthisevent.Thistable-toptradeshowprovidesanopportunityforChambermembernonprofitstonetworkwithbusinessmembersandshowcasetheirorganization’sworkinthecommunity.KeynotespeakersJasonWalleandBenRichardsonfromBigRingspoketoattendeesabouttheimportanceofbusinesspartneringwithnonprofitstoimprovethequalityoflifeforallinourcommunity.

AspartoftheShopUnionCountyprogram,theUnionCountyChamber:• GrewtheLunchMobprogramtointroduceChambermemberstorestaurantmembersthroughoutUnionCounty.Incoopera-tionwiththerestaurant,theChamberinvitesmemberstothelocaleatery—noformalprogramoragenda,andtherestaurantprovidesadiscounttotheattendees.ItisaninformalwaytonetworkwithothermembersandtosupportalocalChamberrestaurantmember.

• HostedtheAnnualBack-to-SchoolBusinessExpo.Thisbusiness-to-consumer(B2C)tabletoptradeshowheldatMonroeCrossingduringthehigh-trafficbacktoschoolshoppingweekendincreasesconsumerawarenessofthemanyproductsandservicesofferedbyChambermembersinUnionCounty.

• Createdandimplementeda“ShopSmall”socialmediacampaigninsupportofSmallBusinessSaturday.Thepurposeofthiscampaignistoencourageresidentstoshopwithlocally-ownedChamber-memberbusinesses.

7. Createdanewprogramtomeettheneedsofyoungprofessionals21-39yearsofage.YoungProfessionalsofUnionCounty(YPUC)helditskickoffeventinNovember.Thisnewprogramwillprovideprofessionaldevelopmentopportunities,opportunitiestonetworkwithotheryoungprofessionals,mentoring,andacommunityservicecomponent.

8. CreatedanewEnvironmental,HealthandSafety(EHS)RoundtabletomeetthespecificneedsofEHSprofessionalsinUnionCounty.ThisRoundtablemeetsforthepurposeofnetworking,benchmarking,andsharingbestpractices.ThegroupincludesEHSprofessionalsfromleadingindustry,healthcare,andgovernment.TheRoundtablewillhostitsfirstpubliceventinthefirstquarterof2016.

2015 Accomplishments

Thefoundationofastrongcommunityisahealthybusinesscommunity.WearefortunateinUnionCountytohaveadiverse,vibrantbusinesscommunityconsistingofsmallandlargeretail/servicebusinesses,avariedagri-businesscommunitywithdeephistoricalsignificance,andamanufacturingconcentra-tionothercommunitiesenvy.Aprosperousbusinesscommunityprovidesjobsforourresidents,ataxbasetobuildandmaintainourinfrastructure,incometosupportourqualityoflifethroughcontributionstoournon-profits,andsup-portofoureducationalinstitutions.

ThefoundationofahealthybusinesscommunityisadynamicChamberofCommerce.YOURChamberisthecornerstoneofthebusinesscommunityprovidingopportunitiestoconnectwithothers,providingprofessionalandpersonaldevelopmentopportunities,collaboratingwithcommunitypartnerstomeetthechallengesbusinessesface,advocatingonbehalfofourmembers,andactingasaprimaryresourceforourmembers.TheworkoftheChamberiscrucialtothesuccessofourmembers,andultimatelytothesuccessofourcommunity.

Thisyearwasagreatsuccess!In2015yourChamberimplementednewprograms,strengthenedexistingprograms,andcreatedopportunitiesforourmembersto“makeconnections”throughouttheyear.Attendanceatoureventsgrewdramatically;membersutilizedtheChamberasaresourcefortheirbusiness,andgrewtheirbusi-nessesleveragingtheconnectionstheymadethroughtheChamber.

WesolidifiedtheChamber’sroleas“TheBusinessConnectioninUnionCounty”.Weprovidedsolutionstothecommonchallengesallbusinessesfaceanddifferentiatedourservicesbasedonthefocusareasweserve.Weachievedthisbydoingwhatwedobest—makingconnections.

Business Networking Luncheons Thesemonthlyluncheonsaredesignedtoeducatemembersonpertinentissuesandtopicsthatrelatetomostbusinesses:small,medium,orlarge.NewChambermembersareintroducedeachmonth,andallattendeesenjoythetimeoffellowshipandnet-workingwithfellowmembersandattendees.

Connections After FiveTheseafterbusinesshoursnetworkingevents,hostedbysponsoringmembers,provideacasualsettingformakingnewconnectionsandcatchinguponfriendships,aswellasanopportunityforthehostingmembertoshareandeducateattendeesabouttheirbusinesses.

“In February of this year, I had the privilege of meeting Carol Bradley with HCB Construction/Healthy Crawl Space/Bradley Real Estate. Carol and her husband Brad had just joined the Chamber and I was the Ambassador assigned to her company. While meeting with Carol and learning about what she and her company does, I was thinking to myself - Wow! This is exactly who we are looking for to build an addition on our existing building. Our auto repair business was growing and we needed more space. I left our meeting very excited. I told my husband I finally found “the” contractor to build the addition. HCB Construction was hired and by the next day things were happening! I can honestly say that it has been great working with both Carol and Brad and even better knowing we are doing business with another Chamber member. If we were not members of the Union County Chamber of Commerce this connection would not have happened!”

Thepurposeoftheweek’sactivitieswas:toincreaseawarenessofthepositivebenefitsofmanufacturinginour community,topromotemanufacturingasatopcareerchoice,andtothankmanufacturersinUnionCountyforthejobstheycreate,the taxestheypaytosupporttheinfrastructureofourcounty,andthethousandsof volunteerhoursanddollarstheycontributetolocalcharitable organizations.

TheChamberreachedouttocommunitypartnersandmanufacturerstocreateaManufacturingAwarenessTaskForcetoplanandfacilitateactivities,createandexecuteamarketingplan,andengagelocalstudents,parents,andeducators.

TheTaskForcewasledbytheChamberandincludedrepresentativesfromUnionCountyPublicSchools,UnionAcademyCharterSchool,SouthPiedmontCommunityCollege,Monroe-UnionCountyEconomicDevelopment,localmanufacturersandlocalmarket-ingexperts.

Themarketingplanincludedsignificantpresenceonsocialmedia(Facebook,Twitter,andLinkedin),constantupdatestotheMakeItinUnionCountywebsite,speakersinareahighschools,fieldtrips,andposters,handoutsandothercommunicationdirectlytostudentsintheareahighschools.

Theweek’sactivitiesculminatedinaManufacturingCelebrationBreakfastattendedbyover110manufacturingex-ecutivesandcommunityleaders.Thisyear’skeynotespeakerwasBarnabyKellerfromKellerTechnologywhospokeaboutworkforcedevelopmentandtheneedsofthemanufacturingcommunity.

DuringManufacturingAwarenessWeek2015,over1870peoplewerereachedthroughtheschools,speakers,tours,fieldtrips,openhouseevents,manufacturingshowcase,andthebreakfastevent.EvenmorereceivedinformationthroughMakeItinUnionCounty’swebsiteandvarioussocialmediasites.
