veryone is welcome at this summer’s biggest and best festival of cycling. Come along

and enjoy the fun and freedom of cycling around a 10-mile traffic-free route in central London. We want people of all ages and abilities to get on their bikes and come together to experience an unforgettable day of cycling in the capital so encourage your family and friends to hit the streets on Saturday 1 August.

For one day only you’ll be able to enjoy a traffic-free ride past many of the city’s world-famous landmarks, from Buckingham Palace in the west to the Bank of England in the east via the Houses of Parliament and St Paul’s Cathedral.

THE ROUTEAs well as passing many of London’s iconic landmarks, the route goes south of the river for the first time with a loop over Waterloo Bridge, offering stunning views of London.

There are a further two miles of Explore Routes through the City of London, allowing riders to meander through the historic streets of the capital.

You can enter and exit at any point along the route, do as many laps as you like and come and go as you please as you

explore many of the iconic sights and hidden gems that London has to offer. You can also hop on and off your bike at our six fabulous Festival Zones to enjoy a range of music, entertainment and activities or grab some refreshments from one of the many cafes, restaurants and bars around the route.

There will also be music zones, Penny Farthings, stagecoaches, music bikes, bands on bikes and stilt bikes. Bike doctors will be on hand in case your bike has a mechanical problem.

NEW FESTIVAL ZONES This year, Aldwych and Lincoln’s Inn Fields join Green Park, St Paul’s Churchyard, Guildhall Yard and Leadenhall Market as official Festival Zones – find out more about what’s happening at each zone below.

Cycle parking, First Aid and Info Points will be available at all six of the Festival Zones so you can park your bike while you enjoy all the free activities, music and entertainment on offer. Don’t forget to bring a lock so you can leave your bike while you explore. GREEN PARK The Green Park Festival Zone will host a range of entertainment throughout the day, including shows, demos and Guinness World Record attempts. An

British Cycling’s regional youth teams. It gives them the chance to race in professional conditions in the centre of London.”

In the men’s race Josh Boggi will go up against Ben Zissman, Steve Arnold and Chris Hawes, while in the women’s race Jen Browning, who was third in 2014, and Hannah Hunt, who placed fourth last year, will be the ones to watch.

VISIT KINGSTONKingston is looking forward to throwing a huge family-friendly festival to welcome the thousands of cyclists who will pass through the town on Sunday 2 August.

“Kingston is proud to be at the heart of some great cycling action once again,” said Councillor David Glasspool, Kingston Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Heritage, Tourism and Leisure.

“Kingston is the best place for family and friends to cheer on competitors in the events. It is the only place along the entire route that the sportive and pro cyclists pass through on both their outbound and inbound journeys. Visitors choosing to base themselves in Kingston for the day will enjoy a family-friendly bike festival and a carnival atmosphere.”

After watching the start of the race, fans will be able to support the amateur cyclists streaming through town before catching the pro event on big screens in the Market Place and Clarence Street.

PRL FESTIVAL GUIDE

PRUDENTIALRIDELONDON-SURREY 100WHERE: London & Surrey | WHEN: Sunday 2 August | TIME: 06:00-17:30

On the following pages you will find a detailed guide to the Prudential

RideLondon-Surrey 100 route from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park out through London and Surrey and back to the Finish on The Mall in central London.

The advice in the following pages is intended to help your friends and family to organise their day on Sunday 2 August so that they have the opportunity to cheer you on and find a great spot to watch the pro riders in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic later in the day.

There are loads of great viewing places along the route to choose from – 100 miles is a long way after all – but to make sure your supporters enjoy the event safely and with as little discomfort as possible, we

suggest they read the following pages and think carefully about where to spectate to ensure they get the most out of what promises to be a truly amazing day of cycling.

QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARKWe strongly recommend that your friends and family do not accompany you to the start of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on the morning of Sunday 2 August.

Access to the sportive Start Area will be tough for spectators as public transport will be limited at that time in the morning, there will be extensive road closures in place and parking will be extremely difficult.

If your friends and family are keen to support you as you

take on 100 miles through London and Surrey, the next few pages feature maps of the route from start to finish along with suggestions about the best places to watch the action (and the places they should avoid).

Of course, public transport on and around the routes of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey events is unfortunately subject to unforeseen changes prior to both events so please make sure your supporters check all train times and look for up-to-date travel information online before they travel. ››

TRAVEL INFOPlease note that train timetables, station opening times and access are all subject to last-minute changes. Your supporters should click on the ‘Live travel news’ link on www.tfl.gov.uk for live updates in London.

For updates to other rail services along the route, or to check whether train operating companies have any restrictions in place during the weekend, your friends and family should visit the National Rail Network website at www.nationalrail.co.uk to find out more.

Please note that you’ll take a slightly different route this year through central London while work on the new East-West Cycle Superhighway along the Embankment continues.

EAST LONDON TO THE CITYAfter leaving Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park you’ll head through Poplar and Stepney and towards Tower Bridge before continuing along Cannon Street then over Holborn Viaduct. A left turn will take you down New Fetter Lane and on to Fleet Street and along the Strand. Several London Underground stations serve this section of the route: Tower Hill, Monument, Mansion House, St Paul’s, Farringdon and Temple.

ST JAMES’S TO HAMMERSMITHFrom the Strand you will head through Trafalgar Square, along Pall Mall and up St James’s Street before turning left onto Piccadilly for a five-mile section along the A4. If your supporters want to spectate along this section of the route, there are plenty of London Underground stations to transport them to the heart of the action. The following Piccadilly Line stations will put

them within a five-minute walk of the route along the A4: Piccadilly, Green Park, Hyde Park Corner, Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Gloucester Road, Earls Court and Barons Court. West Kensington Station on the District Line is also right next to the A4.

CHISWICK TO MORTLAKEAt mile 17, you will turn south off the A4 at Hogarth roundabout and onto the A316 to cross the Thames at Chiswick Bridge. You will then complete a short spell on the A205 before turning up East Sheen Lane and into Richmond Park at Sheen Gate. Your supporters should head to Mortlake Station if they want to get to this section of the sportive on public transport.

RICHMOND PARKOnce through the gates of Richmond Park, you will turn west along Sawyer’s Hill then left at Richmond Gate and head south along Queen’s Road. The closest stations to this part of the route are Richmond Underground Station on the District Line and Richmond National Rail Station. Supporters should expect the walk from the station up the hill into Richmond Park to take around 30 minutes.

KINGSTON UPON THAMESAfter leaving Richmond Park at Kingston Gate Lodge, you will continue south along Queen’s Road before turning west onto the A308 through Kingston town centre. The route passes through Kingston twice – at roughly 25 miles and 85 miles – so supporters stationed here will have two opportunities to cheer you on and enjoy the street party taking place in the town. Kingston, Norbiton and Hampton Wick stations are a short walk from the route.

HAMPTON COURT PALACEAfter crossing Kingston Bridge, you will continue along the A308 to the first Hub on the route at Hampton Court Palace. Your friends and family should head to Hampton Court railway station to support you on this section of the sportive.

WALTON-ON-THAMESFrom the 27-mile point at Hampton Court Bridge, you will follow Hurst Road (A3050) past Molesey Reservoirs and through Walton-on-Thames to Weybridge. There are very few public-transport options along the route after Hampton Court station but this would be a great place to watch the action. ››

PRUDENTIALRIDELONDON-SURREY 100 MILES 30-65Weybridge to Dorking

WEYBRIDGEYour supporters will find it easier to get to the route just after the 33-mile point, where you will turn south along the B374 Heath Road and cross the railway line by Weybridge station. Weybridge, with its quality restaurants, cafes and shopping, is another perfect place to watch the action.

WEST BYFLEETThe route continues south through Brooklands before turning west on the A245 through Byfleet and West Byfleet. It’s a short walk from West Byfleet station to the route on Old Woking Road. A couple of miles later you will swing south onto the B367 Coldharbour Road through Pyrford and Ripley before crossing over the A3 and beyond the 40-mile mark. The streets of the metropolis are well and truly behind you now and the long, winding curves of Rose Lane and Ripley Lane, through beautiful Surrey countryside, will be a welcome change as you head towards West Horsley.

NEWLANDS CORNER At West Horsley the route turns right at the roundabout onto the A246 Epsom Road through East

Clandon and opens out to a dual carriageway then turns left down Shere Road. After a mile and a half you will reach Newlands Corner, arguably one of the loveliest areas on the route. Newlands Corner sits on a ridge of the Albury Downs, which is part of the North Downs in an area of chalk grassland and woodlands.

This section of the route has some of the best views of the Surrey Hills but it will, unfortunately, be difficult to access on the day because of the necessary road closures around the route. If your friends and family are prepared to walk up to this beautiful spot though, they will be rewarded with great views. ABINGER HAMMERFrom Newlands Corner you will continue east through Gomshall past the halfway point and on to Abinger Hammer. Gomshall Station has a limited service on Sunday but if your supporters fancy watching the event away from the bustle of London, the village is very pretty and there are pubs and cafes to watch the action from. Check out www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk for up-to-date travel details.

You will then turn south down the B2126 Felday Road, which becomes Horsham Road, until you reach Holmbury St Mary. From here you continue onto Holmbury Road and hit the most southerly point of the sportive, turning left onto Ockley Road at Forest Green.

LEITH HILLThe route then turns north up Etherley Hill and onto Abinger Road, where you’ll enjoy smaller leafy lanes and more beautiful Surrey countryside before heading onto the big climb of the sportive up Leith Hill Lane – a tough part of the route but a great spot to support from. Climbing the hill, the route hits Guildford Road, at which point it turns east to Westcott and the 63-mile point. The route then continues eastwards towards the town of Dorking.

DORKINGDorking will be a great place to watch the action – a perfect balance of town and country and there will be plenty to entertain your supporters before and after they see you. You, however, will have to push on through the town and on to the challenge of Box Hill. ››

PRUDENTIALRIDELONDON-SURREY 100 MILES 65-100Box Hill to The Mall

BOX HILL & LEATHERHEADAfter the summit of Box Hill you’ll take a left turn to Headley and on to Leatherhead. The third Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 Hub will be based at the Swan Shopping Centre in Leatherhead at the 75-mile mark.

OXSHOTTFrom Bull Hill you will turn onto Randall’s Road and head north to Oxshott, which spectators can access by train. There are also several pubs in the village. The route then continues north through Esher Common.

ESHERYou’ll then pass through Esher turning onto the A307 at Esher High Street before passing Sandown Race Course and heading towards the Surrey-London border. Now on Portsmouth Road, you’ll wind your way back towards London. The towns and villages become more frequent with both Thames Ditton and Surbiton stations well within walking distance of the route.

KINGSTON UPON THAMESIt is here, as you enter Kingston, that you will get your first glimpse of the Thames since leaving it behind at Hampton Court Bridge over 60 miles ago. This is also the first point on the route that the return journey meets the outbound journey and, with both Kingston Station and Norbiton Station nearby for access, it makes for a great location for your supporters to watch the event.

Kingston will be throwing a huge festival to welcome the cyclists passing through the town. As well as lining the route to watch the sportive, visitors to the town will be able to pull up a deckchair and watch the pro event on big screens in the Market Place and Clarence Street. They will also be able to make the most of Kingston’s great shops, restaurants, bars and cafes.

The route leaves Kingston along the London Road until it turns right onto Coombe Road (A238) and passes Norbiton Station.

WIMBLEDONThe sportive will cross the A3 again and, staying with the A238, reach Raynes Park Station and on to the 90-mile mark just before Wimbledon. Wimbledon offers another ideal vantage point to watch the day’s events; the station is well connected and the Love Wimbledon Street Party is sure to be a treat (see opposite for details).

The route then runs alongside the Womble’s famous home, Wimbledon Common. This is the last large green space on the route and, as you turn right at Tibbet’s Corner and head downhill, you will feel like you’re well and truly back in the city.

PUTNEYPutney is a great place for spectators; well connected, with East Putney Underground and Putney Rail Station, it is also the point where the route crosses the Thames for the last time.

CHELSEAAt Putney Bridge Underground station the route will fork right up New King’s Road then turn right down Ashburnham Road for a last view of the river along Chelsea Embankment.

WESTMINSTERThe final mile will see you head past the Houses of Parliament and up Whitehall before a left turn through Trafalgar Square. The Finish Line will now be in view as you pass under Admiralty Arch and along The Mall to finish facing Buckingham Palace. Your friends and family should note that this area is likely to be particularly crowded.

THE FINISHAfter you’ve completed the sportive, there is a Meet and Greet zone in the Broad Walk area of Green Park to rendezvous with your friends or family (see map on page 27). The trees in this part of the park will be marked with letters of the alphabet so you can arrange to meet at your family initial or at another pre-arranged letter.

This area will be busy but do NOT be tempted to congregate around the exits from the secure area closer to the Finish Line. This causes enormous congestion and health and safety issues for the crowds in this area. Our security personnel are under instructions not to allow people to congregate here and to move them along.

Heavy mobile phone traffic on all networks means you may find

it difficult to receive or make a call in and around the Finish Area. Do not rely on mobile phones as your only means of communication. Share a contact telephone number to relay messages to a third party who will be at home and will be able to take calls and pass messages between you, should your plans go awry.

In the unlikely event of the Finish Area becoming unavailable as a result of a serious incident or the sportive being stopped for some other reason, you are advised to agree an alternative meeting place (this should not be within two miles of the Finish Area) with friends and relatives.

After crossing the Finish Line it will take about 30 to 40 minutes for you to reach the Meet and Greet Area. Remember to build these factors into your arrangements for meeting friends and relatives. Remember that you are likely to feel tired and weary and meeting with your friends and relatives after the sportive will be difficult among thousands of other cyclists if you haven’t made simple arrangements.

After you have been reunited with your friends or family, why not stay in central London to watch the closing miles of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic? Depending on the speed of the professional race, the winners should cross the Finish Line at about 18:00. For more information on watching the race, turn to page 86. ››

PRUDENTIALRIDELONDON-SURREY CLASSIC

on’t miss your chance to see the world’s best cyclists battle it out at the Prudential

RideLondon-Surrey Classic on Sunday 2 August.

Britain’s greatest one-day bike race is back and this year’s fast and furious showdown will see 150 of the world’s top pro cyclists take on a 200km route through London and Surrey.

Now in its third year, the race (Category 1.HC on the UCI Europe Tour) offers the highest prize money pool of any one-day Classic and will be televised live by BBC Sport.

The race will also feature Mark Cavendish for the first time. “I can’t wait to ride this year,” said Cavendish. “After only two years, this race is already an event every rider wants to win and you can’t beat racing in front of British crowds. After missing out in 2014 I was determined to ride in 2015. ”

Mick Bennett, Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic Race Director said: “We’re delighted to have Mark Cavendish in this year’s field. He’s not just a great sprinter but he’s also a very good climber on this type of terrain and this route should suit him very well. The extra circuit of the climb to Ranmore Common that we’ve added to the route this year brings a whole new dimension to a great race. That’s where Team Sky and BMC shook up the race last year and I’m sure

teams will do the same again this year. We are set for something very special on 2 August.”

The race will see 25 teams of six riders start on Horse Guards Road in St James’s Park at 13:30 on Sunday 2 August and stream west through the capital, offering spectators a variety of great opportunities to support their cycling heroes along the route.

One option for cycling fans is to head to the start area on Horse Guards Parade next to St James’s Park, where spectators will be able to see the pro riders signing in and putting the finishing touches to their preparation ahead of the race.

Another great option is to catch the action along the route as the riders zip through central London. Check out the best places to watch this section of the race using the map and information on pages 80 and 81.

After racing through central London, the pro riders will head out of the capital and over Chiswick Bridge as they make their way towards Surrey’s stunning countryside. This year’s Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic route will once again feature multiple circuits in the Surrey Hills, including five passages through Dorking.

After cycling through Abinger Hammer and Westcott the riders will go through Dorking for the first time before heading south to Coldharbour to climb Leith Hill.

DWHERE: London & Surrey | WHEN: Sunday 2 August | TIME: 13:30-18:30

Once riders have climbed Leith Hill, they will head through Dorking again before tackling three circuits through Westhumble to Ranmore Common before racing back through Dorking for a final time and on to Box Hill.

The direct route back into London, used by the 2012 Olympic road race, via Leatherhead, Oxshott and Esher, will see the distance from the final climb to the finish shortened bringing into play a greater tactical element, as the sprinters’ teams battle to bring back any breakaway moves made in the hills.

There will be a huge family-friendly festival in Kingston upon Thames town centre, which the cyclists pass through twice. As well as lining the route to cheer on the riders, spectators will be able to enjoy a bike-based street party and make the most of Kingston’s many shops, restaurants and cafes.

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will also be shown live on a big screen in Green Park, where you can meet friends and family to relax after you’ve conquered the 100-mile challenge.

Further details on the teams and cyclists taking part will be announced on www.PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk/Classic in the coming weeks.

Check out the race route and plan where to catch all the action at www.PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk/Classic
