Coaching Virtually to Enhance

Teaching and Learning

Hamilton County ESC consultants will partner with Sibme to present HCESC’s newly developed Teach, Reflect, Learn: Coaching Virtually service. This service combines professional goal setting, video annotation of lessons with focused feedback and reflective questioning to create a process where teachers can teach, self-reflect and learn with the support of a virtual coach. Teachers use the focused feedback and coached self-reflection to improve professional practice and increase positive impact on academic achievement. The process is supported electronically using a private video and resource sharing platform known as Sibme to house the teacher's recorded lessons and recursive cycles of reflection between coach and teacher. The presentation will include description of the creation of the service, explanation of the Teach, Reflect, Learn process, and testimonial from teachers and virtual coaches about the powerful impact of self-reflection and focused feedback. A demonstration of Sibme's video and resource sharing platform, including how teachers and coaches utilize the platform to enhance collaboration, self-reflection, and growth will also be provided.

District Conditions for Scale: A Policy Framework for

Scaling Personalized

Learning

The District Conditions for Scale provide a path to personalized education (competency, project-based, blended learning, etc.) across every district. There are barriers, specifically related to state-level policy, to implementing these conditions. Attendees, with the help of KnowledgeWorks, will address these barriers and the policy levels for overcoming them during this session. The session will focus on exploring areas of flexibility in state policy required for districts to scale personalized learning, examining assurances districts should make to states in order receive flexibility from existing policy, and considering what supports states can offer as districts undertake the work of scaling personalized learning.

Student Readiness

Collaborative

Two years ago, the phrase, "college readiness" became a focus for educators. And, after reviewing college readiness data in the Ohio Valley ESC (OVESC) service area, it was discovered that a significant number of students, after taking college placement tests, were required to take remediation courses in Math and English. Not only is this more expensive for students, but the likelihood students will earn a degree rapidly decreases. This reality has compelled the OVESC to investigate ways of helping students be more successful on the preparation end, before they graduate from high school. The Student Readiness Collaborative (SRC) project will address improving four components of college preparedness: Content Alignment, Skill Enhancement, Career Development, and Student Aspiration. ~ Mathematics and English Language Arts educators of high school and high education will collaboratively develop pathways that better align high school and college courses. ~ Computer-Aided Instruction will be used to enhance/remediate students' content skills. ~ Utilizing business partnerships, students' workplace skills and aspiration will improve through student mentorship programs and career development opportunities. ~ Educators will receive high quality professional development to effectively deliver instruction. In addition, the SRC Project will focus on subgroups of students "on the bubble" of college readiness, who without purposeful intervention would likely require college remediation upon graduation from high school.
