NEWSLETTER VOLUME 1 JOHNAPPLESWIMFUND.ORG 2015 Our Mission MISSION STATEMENT The John Apple Swim Fund encourages Lancaster County swimmers to pursue their dreams by awarding scholarships to those in need of financial support. OVERVIEW Becoming a successful swimmer demands more than just talent. Dedication, hard work, and a desire to excel are also required. In addition, financial support may be needed to advance to the next level. Athletes who can make the com- mitment to swim year round must bear the costs for team membership, training, apparel, equipment, meet fees and travel. Motivated swimmers who do not have the resources to continue in the sport should not be left behind. The goal of the John Apple Swim Fund is to create opportunities for Lancaster County swimmers to pursue their dreams. G reetings and happy 2015! We are eager to share our first annual Newsletter with you! We hope this will be a great way to keep you informed as well as highlight some key accomplishments, which your contributions have made possible. It’s hard to believe two years have passed already since we lost our beloved coach, John Apple. His enthusiasm for swimming and direct impact on decades of Lancaster County swimmers inspired his family to figure out a way to keep his legacy alive and benefit others. With the help of a few friends, coaches and Five Star Swim Club, the John Apple Swim Fund was quickly born. As we keep coach Apple close to our heart, we plunge forward and focus on the talent that swims before us today. It has become our mission to support our dedicated, goal-driven swimmers financially and help them advance to the next level in their swimming career. As we enter into our third year, we’d like to take this time to reflect on 2014. With the generous donations from many of you, we were able to award our first two scholarships! The scholarship recipients were Mikaela Schell, a graduate from Donegal High School, and Seth Bare of Lampeter-Strasburg High School. Another milestone for our Swim Fund is our nonprofit 501(c)(3) status. We are now functioning as our own entity, with every dollar donated going towards our mission. Our organization has been pleasantly surprised by everyone’s generosity and interest in the Swim Fund thus far. Our net profit has reached 14k, which moves us closer to our goal of endowing the scholarships for many years to come. Thank you to those who helped make that possible! A special thank you to Five Star Swim Club, New Holland Aquatic Club, and Skyline Swim Team who held their own fundraisers and contributed a substantial portion to our Swim Fund. We are looking forward to another successful year and hope to see you at our annual fundraiser in June! Best part about college swimming? The best part is the teammates and the friendships I have made. My team is my family away from home. I spend most of my time with my teammates both in the water and outside of the water. As well as the competition, I have already improved my times and perfected my swimming technique. My coaches really care about each and every one of their swimmers.

What are your favorite swimming events? My favorite swimming events are the 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 fly, as well as relays. I really look forward to being in a relay because it’s one of the most exciting races. In college, I have mostly been swimming sprint events.

What are some of your goals for 2015?Some goals I have for 2015 are for the women’s swim team to win the MAC’S championship meet in February. Goals for school are to complete with straight A’s.

Any advice for high school students getting ready for college? My advice is to follow God’s plan for your life and to not lean on your own understanding…let God guide you and be a part of every decision you make!

How many siblings do you have?I am the middle child, with an older sister and a younger sister.

Do you have any pets?Yes, I have two cats named Snuka and Cleopatra.

Favorite vacation spot?My favorite vacation spot would have to be the beach because I love the sun, water, and relaxing. I think it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth that God has created.

Sponsorship Packages

The John Apple Swim Fund would like to thank all of our hardworking volunteers, vendors, and donors for making ApplePalooza a successful event last year!

This year we’ve decided to change things up and hold ApplePalooza at a swimming pool in hopes of providing a more engaging venue for all ages. Woodridge Swim Club has been more than gracious to offer their facilities and help in planning the event. Our organizations are looking forward to joining forces to produce a promising fundraiser.

New to the event this year will be the most obvious—a pool, so bring your swimsuits and kids. Those of you who could care less about getting wet can relax in the beer garden and enjoy good music. We’ll also be incorpo-rating a kickball tournament for the Lancaster U.S. swim clubs.

We’d love to have former swimmers join us! Call up your old teammates and bring your family along for a day of reminiscing and fun!

Check our website for event updates. www.johnappleswimfund.org
