“State Revs Up for A New
Speed Limit” is what I
found in the Great Falls
Tribune. The state has de-
cided to bump the speed
limit up from 75 MPH to 80
MPH. The people of Great
Falls are debating weath-
er this is a good idea.
Some say that it’s a good
idea because you will get
places faster. Others say
that it’s a bad idea be-
cause of more and more
people texting while driv-
ing. This may or may not
be a good idea but I
guesses we’ll have to wait
and see. Happy driving, if
you could. Well that’s all

Air Traffic Controller: Chris Kidd
I work at the airport, in a tower 14 stories tall. I
have a bird’s eye view of the city and of the airport run-
ways. Each year Great Falls Air Traffic Control Tower
handles over 48,000 operations. Air Traffic Controllers
(ATC) talk to each other, the pilots and other airports to
coordinate air space. This allows them to manage the
flow of aircraft and insures safe travel. Communication
is key in Air Traffic Control. They are responsible for giv-
ing accurate directions, information and weather con-
ditions to pilots, as well as coordinate with ground crews
in the event of an emergency.
Currently ATC’s in Great Falls, Montana, work 40
hours a week on a shift-like schedule, but could poten-
tially work up to 56 hours if there are not enough quali-
fied controllers. The facility is open 24 hours, so it has to
be manned at all times.
Every day is different as an ATC. Planes are sometimes
early or late, have mechanical issues or emergencies.
Often there are military pilots practicing, landings and
take offs in between commercial flights and cargo
planes.
This makes for more fun when sequencing their arrivals
or departures.
ATCs go through initial training at the
FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, Ok. For 3 months. Up-
on successful completion, they are sent to a facility for
extensive on the job training that lasts for about 18
months. Most ATCs have a military background, an avi-
ation degree, or just a strong interest in aircraft. I had
military experience. Most often I helped jets land on
aircraft carriers in the middle of the ocean. I enjoyed
that so much, I decided to continue as an ATC, and
have been able to live in various parts of the country.
Technology has improved in the last 20 years,
most times for the good, but occasionally glitches
cause big traffic jams. For instance, pilots once carried
40lbs worth of maps with them on flights, but now use
IPad. However, if the IPad app fails, flights are delayed
or cancelled.
ATC is fun, it’s like playing a video game all day
and despite the shiftwork and frequent changing of
days off, I enjoy it. It can be challenging to balance
that with a family, but we manage because I have a
super awesome wife.
Career Interview: Jeremy Virts
Firefighter/Paramedic
By Abbie Virts Jeremy Virts,
who is also known as
my DAD, is a public
servant to the city of
Great Falls. His main function is fire suppres-
sion. He also provides advanced life support
to the sick and injured. A firefighter/
paramedic’s major job responsibilities are
structural fire-fighting and paramedic care.
On average, he works about 48 hours a week.
All of the additional duties are per-
formed around 911 calls to the public. They
keep busy when not responding to calls by
doing duties around the station such as equip-
ment maintenance and cleaning. They also
are constantly training to make sure all of our
skills are practiced. Firemen also do inspec-
tions on businesses for fire prevention.
For two weeks in the fall, they teach fire
prevention to elementary schools in Great
Falls. There is not a set routine as a fireman.
Firemen should be personable, physically fit,
and be able to think on your
feet because every day is different and you
never know what to expect.
To get where he is today, Jeremy has
done a lot of training and continuing educa-
tion. Fire-fighting techniques have changed
since he started his career. There have been
some changes, such as how to attend to pa-
tients whose hearts have stopped beating.
My dad enjoys helping people on a day
-to-day basis. He also balances his work and
homelife by focus on family and spend quality
time with them when not working.

The Raven’s head coach is brother
with the 49ers head coach. However only one team will win this Super Bowl. This Su-per Bowl took place in Mercedes-Bens Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. These teams were the first teams to be featured in undefeated Super Bowl titles. This Super Bowl was nicknamed the Blackout Bowl. This was because in the 3rd quarter the lights went out without a flicker.
Also because of the power outage delay this Super Bowl was the longest in history at 4 hours, and 14 minutes long. At the end the final score was 34-31 Raven’s. Raven’s head coach John Harbaugh said “how could it be any other way? It’s never petty. It’s never perfect. But it’s us. It was us today”.

CMR is the best high school with green and gold, the
mascot the rustler and with principal Kerry Parson. The
doors opened on September 7 1965 with a total of
1,400 students. This school has about 1,515 students
and most of them attend the games. I am going to
interview the CMR Wrangler coach Jeanne Myers
about her.
1. When did you began playing your sport? She be-
gan playing it in 2010 and started dancing since she
was born.
2. What are the inspirations and aspirations? She has
always loved to dance and she enjoys people suc-
ceeding.
3. What challenges have you faced? She has faced a
group of girls working together. She has also
sprangred her own ankles a lot and she treated it and
battled through.
4. What routines do you follow? Her routine that she
follows is she has practice with her team, then she
goes to work then goes home, next she does home-
work with her kids cleans house, and last she goes to
bed and does it again. With her team they train for 2
hours a day and 8 a week. The two things that help
them succeed is that she accepts a lot from her team
and appreciate everyone.
5. What have they learned about their teamwork?
They learned that it comes out a price when someone
gets hurt. They do team meetings and discusses there
problems .The coach has not any troubles with par-
ents. For her one endurance she has learned that she
works with her team and the role of her parents were
to always be positive and helpful.
6. What words of advice or encouragement do they
have to share with younger athletes? They would
have to say to be the better person.
7. I asked some other questions so here is a few of
them. She started coaching because the other coach
was leaving so she decided to help out by taking her
place. Her favorite dance they did was Love Runs Out
in 2014.she has also had not traveled out of the state
with her team. Now you know some things about the
school and the coach.I hope you can ented the foot-
ball games and basketball go CMR!!!

My Sister by Olivia
My sister, Taylor is in 12th grade at CMR.
She plays the violin and has been doing this for 7
years. She still finds playing enjoyable.
Taylor also likes running cross country with
her favorite coaches! From her teachers, she has
learned how to be a responsible student through-
out life. However, the biggest challenges facing
students today is paying for college. She is going
to go into the Air Force so she won’t have to pay.
They will pay it for her.
Teachers are more insistent on making kids be
more persistent on making kids more focused
and getting good grades. Teachers are allowing
kids to get away with more.
Kids should be involved in activities after
school because it will keep them busy and let
them try new things.
Taylor said she thinks KIDS SHOULD KEEP
PUSHING THROUGH EVEN WHEN
THINGS GET TOUGH!

My movie review:
Grant Grady
Movie: The MARTIAN
The Martian is based on the book
and tells about a group astronaut sci-
entists who blast off from the planet
Mars. They leave behind Mark Watney,
who they thought was dead after a
sand storm. With only a few supplies,
the stranded botonist must use his sci-
ence knowledge to survive. He is really
funny and sarcastic.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, mem-
bers of NASA try to bring him home.
When his crew finds out he’s alive,
they make their own plan to rescue
him.
I thought this movie was awe-
some. I liked these three things best
(It is in chronological order) First, I
like when Mark gets the plants to
grow. Second, it brings suspense
when the HAB explodes and all the
plants die. Last, I like it when he
blows a hole in his suit to get to Her-
mes.

The Fennec Fox S
arah Faulk
The Fennec Fox is a mammal with ears
up to 6 inches long. It’s the smallest of all
foxes and weighs about 2.2 to 3.3 pounds. They mostly live in North Africa. Since it is a de-
sert to stay cool they build underground dens for
their family. In this environment these nocturnal
(sleep all day awake at night) animals can live for
about 14 years. A horrible thing is their predator
a Eagle Owl is nocturnal too! The Fennec Fox is
an amazing ,interesting animal.

Light at two lights is a beautiful
painting don’t you think? Here are
some facts about Light at two Lights
and its creator. Edward Hopper was
born in Nyack, New York. Edward
Hopper lived from 1882-1967. Edward
Hopper painted Light at two Lights in
1927. Get this Edward Hopper had an
art studio in New York and he lived
and painted in the same studio for
over 50 years!! I chose this because
my mom likes lighthouses.
The windows make right angles
on the left side. The lighthouse might
be a cylinder. The roof of the shack is

WORDS FROM AN EXPERIENCED
TEACHER: Mr. Goosen
By Norah Allen
“My fifth grade teacher led me into
teaching and I’ve wanted to become as
funny as him someday. I’ve been teaching
for 16 years and have taught in Riverview
and Longfellow. I find teaching more re-
warding than when I started. I don’t have a
favorite student, but I like the kids who are
hardworking and funny.
My students have taught me pa-
tience and empathy. The most compelling
challenges to me are rising to the difficulty.
The positive and negative changes are
more difficult material and students pro-
gressing rapidly.
I do see changes in the future, but don’t
know what they’ll be. The most valuable
lesson I would give right now is think before
you make a decision.”
