What a ride! Miss East King County started just two short months ago and here we are about to choose our first local title holder. We are so honored to have the amazing seven ladies we have. All are worthy of the crown and we will be proud to help anyone of them on to the next step of competing at Miss Washington. None of this would be possible if it were not for our amazing board of directors. Our board con-sists of marketing professionals, former title winners, project managers of Fortune 500 Companies and Bio Technicians. With all of their help and expertise we were able to procure amazing spon-sors. We are extremely grateful to everyone involved from contestants to parents to board mem-bers and most importantly sponsors. Thank you for making Miss East King County come to life.

The Miss East King County Scholarship Program is new in 2015 to the Miss Washing-ton Scholarship Organization, preliminary to Miss America. We are excited to offer a pag-eant on the eastside for ladies looking to compete for the opportunity to become Miss Wash-ington or even Miss America. There is no entrance fee for the Miss East King County Pageant. In fact, there is no fee for any levels of the competition from local all the way to Miss Amer-ica. Because this is a scholarship program it is our goal to help young women earn the funds needed for their future, present or past educational costs. The program is run 100% by vol-unteers which means we depend on our sponsors and partners to fund our program and scholarships. Without the help from organizations and people like you we could not exist.

Miss East King County and its contestants and volunteers are ambas-sadors and public rela-tions representatives of the Miss Washington Scholarship Organi-zation, the Children’s Miracle Network, the Miss America Organi-zation and for her cho-sen platform. She is an attractive young wom-an with confident, comfortable and com-manding presence. She is an intelligent, tal-ented individual who takes personal pride in her physical appear-

ance and health. She is an articulate, independent, an eloquent communicator with the courage of her convictions. She is a proven achiever in her education and personal life. She is a role model who inspires others and relates well to people of all ages. She is energetic, charismatic, compas-sionate and outgoing as well as cooperative, flexible and punctual.

Miss East King County is expected to perform a variety of duties to promote East King County and its programs and mission as well as her personal platform. She will make personal appearances when her schedule permits and will be required to attend and participate in the Miss Washington Scholarship Pageant during the month of July.

PLATFORMGirls on the Run - Inspiring Positive Decisions Today!

Statistics state according to DoSomething.org: Over 70% of girls ages 15 to 17 avoid normal daily activities, such as attending school, when they feel bad about their looks. In addition, 75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities like cutting themselves, bullying, smoking, drinking, or eating disorders. A girl’s self-esteem is more strongly related to how she views her own body shape and body weight, than how much she actually weighs.

The mission of Girls on the Run is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum which creatively integrates running.” This organization was found-ed in North Carolina in 2006 and has now expanded to 47 states, the District of Columbia and two of Canada’s provinces. A 2006 study from the Girl Scout Research Institute states, "The more physically active girls are, the greater their self-esteem and the more satisfied they are with their weight, regardless of how much they weigh." Girls on the Run is helping young girls feel confident within themselves starting at an early age, which will lower these statistics and empower them as they become teenagers.

Miss America Organization is one of the largest providers of scholarships to women in the world. Each year the organization offers millions in scholarships to its competitors. Yes, every contestant gets a scholarship. The Miss America Foundation strives to change lives and influence young women across the country and around the world. We proudly offer academic and community-based scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as endowed scholarships for those young wom-en attending medical school, working in special areas for military service awareness, and in the performing arts.

STEM ScholarshipsWe have joined education leaders in advocating for more young women to choose science, tech-nology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields in all levels of education.

With Miss America's reach into communities across this country, we serve as an exciting and rather unconventional advocate of STEM education. Hundreds of Miss America competitors have pursued STEM careers, but we believe there could be even more by inspiring other girls and young women to explore their interest in STEM related fields.

Over the last two years, Miss America has developed a solid working relationship with the U.S. Department of Education on STEM education initiatives. Miss America 2012, Laura Kaeppeler, was named as one of the Top One Hundred Women Leaders in STEM, at the US World Report's Annual STEM Conference in Dallas and Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri, has traveled the country talking about the importance of STEM education including the White House, the Clin-ton Global Initiative, and at Walmart and Whirlpool headquarters.

The Miss America Foundation has also created a scholarship specifically for young women studying in the STEM fields. STEM scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded to two of the 53 contestants who are competing for the title of Miss America. To be eligible, a state titleholder must be enrolled with a declared major field of study in science, technology, engineer-ing, or math at a public or private two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-tech-nical school. Five eligible finalists will be announced at the arrival ceremony in Atlantic City. The selected contestants will then be invited to meet, discuss, and substantiate the importance of their studies to a judges' panel. The recipients will be announced during competition week.

The Miss America education tradition is its strongest year yet with over 300,000 volunteers and thousands of young women and their families in small towns, big cities and university campuses across this country, in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

EntertainersRocky Sandoval

Musician

When you think of one of the more promising artists the Pacific Northwest has to offer, you have to think of singer/songwriter, Rocky Sandoval. Hailing from his hometown, Tacoma, WA, this R&B crooner has his sights set on breaking the ‘mold’ in the music industry and finally shedding spot light on Asian-American talent. His drive and work ethic are comparable to none and his pas-sion for creating quality music is a standard that he takes pride in. On stage, he is as comfortable as ever and it’s evident that he has the confidence and charisma needed to be a force in the music industry.

Some of his accomplishments date back to as early as 2004, starting off as a featured artist on MTV’s singer/songwriter show, ‘the SCORE’ with Ryan Cabrera; a top 15 finalist on P. Diddy’s ‘Making the Band’ season 4; and a top 50 finisher on American Idol season 1. From there, his song

hit local radio and ‘Alligator Skin’ ran for nearly 6 months on the top 50 charts for I-91FM (Washington state), reaching as high as #17, as an unsigned act. The radio play opened up more doors as he was invit-ed to perform at all the major events through the state an-nually which included Seattle Fashion Week at Century Link Field, KUBE 93 Summer Jam, the Puyallup Fair, the Miss Washington USA Pageant, the Bite of Seattle, and the Taste of Tacoma, just to name a few. He was the featured opening act for the Ladies Night Out Con-cert Series during that span,

opening up for major stars Ginuwine, K-Ci and Jojo, Jon B, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Avant, Donell Jones, New Edition, Boyz II Men, Brian Mcknight, 112, Blackstreet and many more; in an ‘LNO” tour stop in Fresno, California, he was invited on stage by K-Ci and Jojo personally, with the rest of the tour mates, to sing classic Jodeci songs in front of a packed arena of 10K. He is also a constant regular in the Seattle/Tacoma music scene, performing for numerous shows and events throughout the year, opening for almost every major R&B/hip-hop artist that comes through town.

His music resume includes two official mixtapes, “Straight Out the Notebook” and “#mrversatili-ty” which has been featured on numerous websites, blogs and even caught the attention of legend-ary R&B deejays DJ Finesse, DJ Chuck T, DJ Rondevu, and DJ Funk Daddy, all whom have fea-tured Rocky’s music on their well-known mixtape series. He has penned songs for Pitbull, T-Pain, YMCMB and Grammy Award winning multi-platinum producers, Tha Bizness. He is currently in the process of starting his own publishing company and his music continues to get him notoriety in

the press which included numerous magazines, gracing the cover of two (One-Ten and Emerald), internet coverage and a healthy relationship with prominent booking agents.

The crown jewel last year was the release of his debut album “Throw-back”. After selling out his album release party in his hometown, Rocky continues to be a favorite draw in the state of Washington performing almost every weekend in both large and small venues. Af-ter announcing a 4th album, a lim-ited edition 2015 project, Rocky’s demand and brand grew through-

out the entire state. The physical copies of “Fifty Shades Of Red” sold out a week prior to it’s scheduled release on Valentine’s Day and continues to be one of the most sought-after-must-have albums of 2015. He is currently working on his first college tour and continues to sell out local headlining shows, which are scheduled only once or twice a year. His brand new EP is untitled at the moment without a set release date. He has released numerous singles as well, all which can be found on iTunes. Exclusive unreleased Rocky Sandoval songs can also be found throughout his social media outlets most notably at www.iamrockysandoval.com.

Today, Rocky continues to win hearts with his music, performance, character and is the definition of hard work. He is the fresh face that music fans have been looking for, and his list of accolades, accomplishments, and buzz will continue to grow with his consistency and determination to leave a lasting legacy in the industry.
