HonoluluMore than 1500 years ago, Polynesians from the Marquesas Islands first arrived on Hawai’i’s Big Island. They sailed over 3200 kms in canoes with the stars as their only navigation guide.

500 years later, settlers from Tahiti arrived, bringing their beliefs and gods and instituting a strict social hierarchy based on a kapu (taboo) system. Hawaiian culture flourished over the centuries, but land division conflicts between ruling chieftains were common.

In 1778 Captain James Cook landed on Kaua’i at Waimea Bay. Naming the archipelago the “Sandwich Islands” in honor of the Earl of Sandwich, Cook opened the doors to the west. He was killed one year later in Kealakekua Bay on Hawaii’s Big island.

In 1791, Kohala born Kamehameha united the warring factions of the Big Island and went on to unify all of the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810. In 1819, less than a year after King Kamehameha’s death, his son, Liholiho, abolished the kapu system.

In 1820, the first Protestant missionaries arrived on the Big Island filling the void left after the end of the kapu system. Hawai’i became a port for seamen, traders, and whalers. Throughout these years of growth, western introduced disease took a heavy toll on the native Hawaiian population.

Western influence continued to grow and in 1893, American Colonists who controlled much of Hawaii’s economy overthrew the Hawaiian Kingdom in a peaceful coup. In 1900, Hawaii became a territory of the United States.

In the 20th century, sugar and pineapple plantations fuelled Hawaii’s economy bringing an influx of Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, and Portuguese immigrants.

On December 7, 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on Oahu. Four years later, on September 2, 1945, Japan signed its unconditional surrender on the USS Battleship Missouri, which still rests in Pearl Harbor today. In 1959, Hawai i became the 50th State of the USA.

The Capitol District is the eastern part of Downtown Honolulu. It is the current and historic centre of Hawai i’s state government, incorporating the Hawaii State Capitol, Iolani Palace, Honolulu Hale (City Hall), State Library, and the statue of King Kamehameha I, along with many government buildings.

Downtown Honolulu is the financial and governmental centre of Hawaii. On the waterfront is Aloha Tower, which for many years was the tallest building in Hawai i. Currently the tallest building is the 134m tall First Hawaiian Centre, at King and Bishop Streets.

Waik k is the tourist district of Honolulu, between the Ala Wai Canal and the Pacific Ocean next to Diamond Head. Moloka i is known as the “Friendly Isle” and is one of the least developed of the main Hawaiian Islands. This island lies 40km east of Honolulu and is accessible by air from Honolulu and Maui by ferry from lāhaina, Maui. Moloka i is administered by Maui county, except fort the Kalaupapa Peninsula, which is administered by the Board of Health, Hawai i.

main attractions:Kaunakakai is the largest town with a population around 3,000. The town centre, Ala Malama Street, is full of eateries and shops. The ferry for Lahaina departs from the town’s wharf.

Maunaloa Village is a tiny, former plantation village and is the only town on the west side of Moloka’i. Here you will also find the Molodai Lodge and Beach Village, a working cattle spread dedicated to providing every sort of thrill-seeking excitement and fun imaginable.

Kalaupapa Peninsula. The village is the site of a former leprosy settlement. At its peak, about 1,200 men, women, and children were in exile in this island prison. The isolation law was enacted by King Kamehameha V and remained in effect until 1969, when it was finally repealed. The colony is now part of Kalaupapa National Historical Park. The village is at the base of the highest sea cliffs in the world, dropping about 1,010 m into the Pacific Ocean. you may visit the village on an escorted tour only – which includes your permit. 7 late Bookings 7.i Bookings made within 60 daysIf a booking request for all products is received within 60 daysprior to departure from Australia, full payment is required at thetime of placing the booking.7.ii Bookings made within 10 daysIf a booking request for all products is received within 10working days prior to departure from Australia, full payment isrequired at the time of placing the booking and will incur a feeof A$33 per booking.Please note that certain products booked may incur additional late fees.

8 unused servicesHolidays in Location does not authorize employees of overseassuppliers or service providers to promise a refund to clients forUNUSED SERVICES. All such services unless otherwise specifiedon voucher documentation issued by Holidays on Locationremain non-refundable.

9 invoicesAll confirmed bookings/reservations will be issued with aninvoice detailing all services booked and confirmed or in thecase of rail sectors PN= Pending Need if such reservation fallsout-of-system range. It is the responsibility of the bookingagent or the person who has placed the booking on behalfof others to ensure that all details are correct and all relatedpricing and cancellation conditions have been understood andcommunicated to all members of your party involved with thebooking/reservation.

10 invoice errors & omissions (e&oe)The right is reserved to correct any errors in rates quoted orcalculated for any service notwithstanding that the invoicemay have been paid in full.

11 cancellationsShould you or any member of your party be forced to cancel yourtravel arrangements you must advise in writing your travel agent orHolidays On Location without further delay. The following charges(including GST where applicable) will apply for all except CIETours International product and services and other coach tours. Ifyou cancel your reservation 60 days prior to your departure fromAustralia, your deposit is NON REFUNDABLE, nor can be transferredor credited to another booking.

Cancellation within 60 days of departure:A- Your deposit is non refundable. PLUSB- Additional charges levied by hotels, rail services groundhandling agents or agencies and your Travel Agent up to 100%of the total cost of travel arrangements may not be refundable.

Point-to-Point Rail Tickets:Refunds where applicable, will be paid on a point-to-point railticket (except advance purchase tickets, where no refund appliesonce confirmed) provided the ticket is stamped as cancelledby any rail station in Europe, and is returned to our office priorto date of travel, in the original jacket of issue. Refunds andexchanges are subject to a minimum 25% cancellation fee.

Seat Reservations for Rail Travel:After issue of ticket, non-refundable.

Rail Passes:Refunds where applicable, will be paid if a pass is returned toour office totally unused and unvalidated by a rail station, andin the original jacket of issue. This must be done before the firstday of validity of the pass, and within six months of the issuedate. Refunds and exchanges are subject to a minimum 25%cancellation fee. Rail Passes cannot be refunded or reissued iflost or stolen.

12 travel DocumentsAll travel documents (including hotel vouchers) shouldbe handled by the passenger with the utmost care. Ingeneral, travel documents will be issued in Australia.In some instances, travel documents will be exchangedon arrival at an International Airport, rail station or atcheck-in at the hotel. However, if the request for delivery(in case of a late booking) is instigated by Travel Agentor client, a private delivery fee of between A$55.00 andA$165.00 (GST inclusive) will apply, depending on thedelivery address. No refund will be processed for unusedvouchers. Lost or stolen or destroyed travel documents (rail,transport, theatre, concert, special events, museum, exhibitor sightseeing tickets) cannot be replaced or refunded.Notecarefully: Principalswill onlyacceptanofficialHolidaysonLocationvoucher or their own voucher validated by Holidays on Location.

13 extra servicesHolidays on Location and its associated representativesworldwide, will not accept responsibility nor approve requests topay for additional charges for extra services requested by clientsand not included in our final invoice. It is your responsibility tosettle these charges, if any, before departure including parkingand other fines or fees incurred when a rental vehicle is used.

14 extra Hotel nights or car rental DaysThe special rates shown are available only when booked andpaid in advance of your departure from Australia. Should youwish to obtain extra nights or additional days car rental whenoverseas, the cost will be at the local rates and cannot bebooked through Holidays on Location.

15 costs not includedItineraries, packages and products do not include cost of travelfrom your home town to the city from which you are departingand the destination country you are travelling to overseas. Youare also responsible for the cost of your passport, visas, airporttaxes, fuel levies, government and local authority charges whereapplicable, excess baggage costs, insurance and items of apersonal nature such as telephone calls, laundry, taxis outsideof regular transfers provided, postage and communication costs,drinks, room service or meals, unless specified.

16 changes to prices and itinerariesSelling prices were calculated on exchange rates current asat 1st September 2014. All costs are subject to change at anytime by the principals and/or because of currency fluctuations. No surcharges in respect of cost or currency deterioration will be made once full payment for your arrangements has been received. This guaranteedoes not apply to any taxes, charges or levies imposed byany government or their agencies or to errors or omissions.In exchange for these guarantees, no refund will be madeif costs are reduced. The range of products featured in thisbrochure are offered at the selling prices shown on each pagebut prices printed do not imply that similar products mayor may not be available at a lower price if obtained direct,however, payment sent overseas by travellers is excludedfrom the protection provided by Travel Agent Licensing andthe Travel Compensation Fund. If we are forced to changeyour booking or part of it for reasons beyond our control, forinstance if a European rail service changes its timetable or ahotelier overbooks his hotel accommodation, we reserve theright to vary your itinerary and will give you, or cause to begiven to you, notice of these changes and provide you withalternative products or services of a similar standard.

18 room and Bedding GuidePrices in this brochure are based on existing bedding in theroom. Request for particular bedding arrangements must bemade at the time of booking. A twin room can be either aroom with two single beds or one double bed (either onedouble or two single mattresses). Triple room rates can applyto either a full-sized triple room built to take three beds or to atwin/double room with an extra roll-away bed. The provisionof hotel rooms is on a Run-of-House basis, unless otherwisespecified. Particular room types e.g. interconnecting, twin vsdouble, can be requested but cannot be guaranteed.

19 childrenCosts vary according to the number of adults, ages of childrentravelling together, and accommodation selected. We will bepleased to quote on the required arrangements.

20 specified meal servicesMeal inclusions specified in accommodation packages arebased on set menus offering a choice of meal options.

22 Hotel check-in and vehicle rentalsValidation of a current credit card will be required by the hoteland hire car companies on check-in/car pick-up. For certainhire car categories, two valid credit cards are required.

23 tours, excursions & sightseeingThese are provided by motor coach (regular services) andinclude the services of a tour escort when indicated and/orlocal tourist guide/s whenever necessary. Both the tour escortand the local guide/s will conduct the tour/s in more thanone language. The tour company reserves the right to makechanges to the tour programme, without notice.

Holidays on Location is not responsible foradvising you of health, visa or passport requirements and isnot liable for any loss or exposure incurred by your failure tocomply with any such requirements.

25 pre-Departure contactIt is essential that you supply us with a contact telephonenumber where you can be reached, within 24 hours prior toyour departure from home.

26 special events, festivals & trade fairsBookings which run-over special events, festivals and tradefairs, may incur higher prices and cancellation fees.

27 maps and photographsMaps are shown for general information and may notnecessarily reflect actual routing, location or services provided.Photographs show places in the geographic areas, but are notnecessarily included in the itineraries or tours. Hotel roomphotographs may not be specific to the actual room occupied.

28 luggageThe luggage allowance for transfers from airport/rail station tocity hotel by multi-stop shuttle service, private car or mini-vanapplicable is 1 suitcase per person, weighing not more than30kgs, to be stored in the rack provided in the shuttle or the bootof the car. Oversize or additional pieces will not be carried by thebooked transport vehicle. In such a case, alternate arrangementsmust be made locally with the driver, and any additional costsettled on-the-spot. If you are planning to take additional caseswith you, please advise us, so that arrangements can be madeand the additional fees settled in advance. Holidays on Locationwill not accept billings beyond the contracted services.

29 travel insuranceTravel Insurance is not included in any of the prices in thisbrochure. It is a requirement by Holidays On Location thatyou have comprehensive travel insurance to cover you forthe full duration of your journey for costs associated withillness, injury, death, loss of or damage to baggage orpersonal items, cancellation, loss of deposit, medical andhospitalization, repatriation and curtailment expenses dueto illness, the need to return home unexpectedly, evacuationexpenses, and accidental death or disability. Your travelagent is the most-qualified person to provide professionaladvice in obtaining travel insurance. However, your are solelyresponsible for obtain the appropriate cover as set out above.

30 Booking arrangementsAll booking arrangements are to be made through your TravelAgent and the person making the booking shall be deemed tohave accepted the Booking Conditions on behalf of all personsnamed in the booking. The contract will be governed by andsubject to the Booking Conditions and to the general informationcontained in this brochure. No variation to the Booking Conditionsshall be of any effect unless made in writing and with the authorityof the directors of Holidays on Location. All communications fromus will be sent to your Travel Agent. Your Travel Agent shall, onreceipt of any monies, hold such monies for each and every personnamed in the booking until that booking is confirmed at whichtime, those monies shall be remitted to us.

31 about costsFor each product or package in Holidays on Location 2015-16 brochures and web pages, included in the selling price arecharges to cover costs of research, reservations from travelagents in Australia and from Australia to Europe, postage,courier charges, facsimile, telephone, bank charges, currencytransfers, documentation, itinerary preparation, brochureproduction, printing, brochure distribution, advertisingand remuneration to Travel Agents. No break-up of costs issupplied. Receipt of your deposit signifies your acceptance ofthese normal commercial costs and reservation fees paid to ouroverseas associates.

32 consumer protectionHolidays on Location is a registered brand name used byMajestic International Travel Service Pty Ltd which holds aTravel Agent’s Licence (No. 30186), is a member of the TravelCompensation Fund (or any consumer protection agency as mandated by Law) keeps all client monies in a separatebank account, and is a member of ASTA, the AmericanSociety of Travel Agents and AFTA, the Australian Federationof Travel Agents. All monies received by Holidays on Locationare, as required by law, deposited on your behalf into a trustaccount as client monies in the name of Holidays on Locationwith the National Australia Bank, our bankers. We will beentitled to keep any interest earned on such monies. It is acondition of confirmation of your booking and acceptanceof your deposit in respect of your booking that all moniespaid by you to us through your Travel Agent whether by wayof a deposit or otherwise in respect of your booking, maybe disbursed by us, as and when we see fit or in respect ofthe services to be provided or fees payable relating to yourbooking and the payment of a deposit or otherwise for yourbooking shall be deemed to be a direction to disburse suchmonies aforesaid. Holidays On Location is a fully accreditedmember of ATAS (the AFTA travel accreditation scheme).

33 our responsibilityHolidays on Location and/or its associated companies or agents,give notice that they act as booking agents only for the personsor companies providing products and/or services and all receipts,tickets, voucher coupons or exchange orders are issued subjectto the terms and conditions of such products and/or services.Holidays on Location and/or its associated companies or agents,do not accept any responsibility for loss or injury to persons orproperty whether by negligence or misadventure by the principalcontracted to provide the products and/or services.

Holidays on Location and/or its associated companies oragents, are not liable for any delays, omissions, irregularities,illness, injuries, strikes, civil disturbances, wars, quarantines,floods or force majeure interfering with, altering, or addingto the cost of the products and/or services booked. Holidayson Location and/or its associated companies or agents, arenot liable for any dissatisfaction the client may have withpersons or companies providing or offering the products and/or services. The above exclusions of liability are subject to anystatutory liability which may not be excluded by law. Holidayson Location and/or its associated companies or agents, dotheir best to make sure your arrangements are as agreed,however cannot represent or guarantee the standard, classor fitness for purpose of the product and/or service.

Holidays on Location and/or its associated companies or agents,only accept liability for, and only to the extent of, any loss ordamage sustained as a result of its negligence or that of itsemployees. We are not liable for any act or omission or default,whether negligent or otherwise, of airlines, coach operators,shipping and rail companies, hoteliers or other persons providingproducts and/or services in connection with the product and/orservices pursuant to a contract between them and yourselvesand over whom we have no direct and exclusive control.

Holidays on Location and/or its associated companies oragents, are not liable in contract or in tort (actionable wrong)for any injury, damage, loss, delay, additional expensesor inconvenience caused directly or indirectly by forcemajeure or other events which are beyond our control, orwhich are not preventable by reasonable diligence on ourpart including, but not limited to war, civil disturbance,fire, floods, unusually severe weather, acts of God, acts ofGovernment of any other authorities, accidents to/or failureof, machinery or equipment or industrial action (whether ornot involving our employees and even through such actionmay be settled by agreeing to demands of a labour group).

It is the responsibility of the passenger to ensure that he or sheis in possession of the proper travel documents and that theyare in compliance with the current government and transportcompanies’ regulations. The right is reserved to modify theitinerary in any way considered necessary or desirable orto change any reservation, and/or means of conveyance,without notice and for any reason whatsoever. The right is alsoreserved to cancel or withdraw any tour, or any booking madefor a passenger, or to decline to accept or retain any person asa member of a tour, for any reason whatsoever. No refunds canbe made in respect of accommodation and meals not utilisedand under no circumstances can refunds be authorised fortours and sightseeing excursions not undertaken.

34 consumer claimsAttempts should be made in the first instance to rectify anydifficulties directly with the hotel management, our localrepresentative or supplier. Should any difficulties not be resolvedas they occur and you wish to lodge a claim, this must be madein writing with supporting documentation within 30 days ofyour return to Australia. The claim should be lodged throughyour Travel Agent.

35 law of contractThe Terms and Conditions published herein are governed by thelaws of the State of Victoria, Australia, except when federal orother legislation takes precedence.
