Dear Fellow Gelbvieh Breeders,

Back in 1995 Daryle Singletary had a hit country song called “Too Much Fun.” In this song a cop pulls over the singer and says, “Boy you’re having too much fun.” The singer responds with, “Too much fun? What’s that mean? It’s like too much money, being too lucky, having a car too fast.” Too much fun…..there’s no such thing is there??

As part of the cattle industry right now, it almost feels like we are having too much fun! One thing we cannot afford to do right now as a breed association is sit back, get comfortable, and enjoy the ride. We still need to continue to work towards our herd goals as well as our goals as a breed. I know I don’t need to try to convince all of you that Gelbvieh cattle are right for the times, but there are still a lot of ears out there that need to hear about what our breed can do for them. Continue to advocate for and educate people about the Gelbvieh breed.

For the last 6 years, I have had the privilege of serving on the GBOI board, and the last 3 years as your President. I have had fun work-ing with the other board members and the association. One of my favorite times of the year is the Iowa Beef Expo, where we hold our annual banquet and meeting. I enjoy the fellowship of other breed-ers and encourage you all to attend the annual meeting and share your input to help move the breed forward. As we elect new officers this year, please feel free to contact them with your ideas, concerns, or suggestions to help better our association. Open communication is vital to the success of any company or business.

To say times are good would be a big understatement. The stars have aligned. The stage is set. Enjoy the many blessings we receive by being part of the cattle business. And remember, there’s no such thing as having too much fun…..but we sure as heck can try!!

CKS Gelbvieh is one of the largest and oldest Gelbvieh herds in Iowa. We focus on raising quality cattle, regardless of color. We have red and black bulls and females for sale private treaty on the farm at most times. Bulls are typically available for inspection beginning in December on the farm. Come pick out your bull and we keep it, free of charge, until you need it and deliver the bull to your farm at no charge. You pay nothing until the bull is delivered.
